On 1 Oct 03 at 09:33:53 PT, sellers reported that attempts to access Turbo Lister yielded illegal operation messages, which would then cause their computer to freeze and require restarting. At 09:39:14 PT, more sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister, with continued illegal operation messages causing computer crashes. At 12:07:54 PT, the Turbo Lister problem reports continued through 12:20:34 PT with reports that the most recent TL upgrade was flawed causing the program to fail.

On 2 Oct 03 at 12:25:43 PT, buyers reported they were having problems with bidding. After trying to submit a bid, they got either a "Page not available" or "internal error." message, with no confirmation that the bid had gone through. The bids were going through, but the buyer would have to go back to the item to confirm. At 12:53:02 PT, sellers on ebaY US and ebaY France reported problems with the search engine, unable to find items they had listed. At 17:48:13 PT, users reported they could not log into ebaY continually receiving error pages. Came in through my favorites, to the chat board here, and --- no problem. At 20:55:24 PT, sellers reported problems with the ebaY selling manager program. It was not reporting the name of the buyer or item bought. In addition, the items listed the previous day were not showing up in the selling manager.

On 3 Oct 03 ebaY did maintenance on their system from 01:00 to 03:00 PT, causing many site features to be unavailable. At 07:28:35 PT, users reported receiving page cannot be displayed messages whilst trying to search. At 10:15:59 PT, sellers trying to relist items received a message saying, "We were unable to process your request. We are sorry, but we were unable to process your request. Please check the eBay Announcement Board for updates on recent and upcoming changes, major system issues, and other important eBay news." At 10:56:57 PT, sellers reported the sell your item function was down.

On 4 Oct 03at 18:47:04 PT, users reported that search was not working properly and was returning varied and illogical results.

On 5 Oct 03 at 19:04:19 PT, users reported they were not receiving end of auction or listing notices. At 19:29:13 PT, users reported they were not receiving PayPal payment notices, which they used to get regularly, until ebaY bought the company. At 22:12:32 PT, sellers reported that their buyers were not receiving correct combined invoices from ebaY or PayPal, with not all the items purchased by a buyer being shown on the invoice.

On 6 Oct 03 at 09:24:31 PT, sellers reported that the combined invoice was not working properly, not showing the correct shipping on the invoice. At 11:33:58 PT users trying to search for completed items received page cannot be found 404 error messages.

On 7 Oct 03 the site was stable.

On 8 Oct 03 at 05:25:37 PT, buyers trying to access their won auctions received messages saying, "An Internal Error has occurred Please try again. If this message persists please report this problem to Customer Support." At 10:02:01 PT, ebaY reported that from 09:10 PT to 09:25 PT, the feedback system was down returning error messages whilst users tried to view or leave feedback. At 14:38:42 PT, sellers reported they still could not relist items receiving messages that, "We are sorry, but we were unable to process your request."

On 9 Oct 03 at 09:58:09 PT, sellers reported they could not get images to load to ebaY. They received messages saying, "eBay Picture Services There was an error uploading your pictures. (Problem type: SD FB) We are currently experiencing problems connecting to the Picture Services Server. Try listing your pictures again ..." At 11:51:02 PT sellers continued to report relist not working. At 22:24:22 PT, the PayPal site returned, "We are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later. Error 3005" messages.

On 10 Oct 03 ebaY did maintenance on their site from 01:00 to 02:00 PT, causing some site features to be down. The LiveWorld chat boards were also down or slow from 01:00 to 03:00 PT. At 05:58:52 PT, users reported problems with PayPal

On 11 Oct 03 at 10:18:37 PT, users reported the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar was not working, returning page cannot be displayed messages. ebaY took their developers program website (http://developer.ebay.com) down, and the developer zone (http://developer.ebay.com/DevZone/index.asp) site down for maintenance from 14:00 to 16:00 PT. At 18:07:23 PT, sellers reported Turbo Lister was not working, returning messages that, "Network problems are preventing Turbo Lister from communicating with eBay"

On 12 Oct 03 at 06:23:54 PT ebaY posted that from 05:35 PDT to 06:00 PT, buyers could not place bids but the problem had been identified and fixed. At 08:28:42 PT, users reported that they were getting cgi 6 errors resulting in seller's lists disappearing. At 18:41:08 PT, more users reported problems bidding, with their placed bids not showing up. At 19:26:49 PT, users reported the browse by category link was not working. At 20:13:26 PT, users reported that indexing was happening in an erratic way.

On 13 Oct 03 at 20:46:13 PT, users reported getting script errors and page cannot be displayed messages across the site. At 21:06:26 PT, users trying to access the regions pages, received error messages. At 21:48:45 PT, sellers trying to file for final value fee refunds kept getting blank pages and page redirects.

On 14 Oct 03 at 06:51:26 PT, ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar users received "Page cannot be displayed" errors whilst trying to use its functions. At 15:59:13 PT, sellers who use Turbo Lister reported they were getting update messages every time they tried to use Turbo Lister. They also reported that every time they did an upload, the program functioned even more problematically than it had previously. At 16:10:25 PT, sellers reported that they were having problems using the SYI2.0 listing page, losing all entered info when trying to revise an item. At 16:13:03 PT, users reported getting cgi errors whilst trying to access ebaY pages. At 19:37:52 PT, sellers reported that their customers were receiving messages from ebaY to pay for their item with PayPal even though the seller did not offer PayPal as a payment option. This notice was sent by ebaY 13 days after the auction ended.

On 15 Oct 03 At 06:27:46 PT, ebaY posted that users were receiving errors when clicking on links in Live Auctions, including most subcategory links. ebaY claimed that search continued to work. At 06:30:14 PT, ebaY reported that the new categories introduced during their category updates were not appearing in the Sell Your Item form. They claimed they had fixed the problem and that all categories were now available to list in. At 11:00:35 PT, sellers reported they could not revise items, receiving messages saying "Cannot find Server error on CGI5".

On 16 Oct 03 at 05:36:46 PT, buyers reported they were not receiving bid or outbid notices. At 11:04:19 PT, sellers trying to pay their ebaY fees received illegal operation or page not found messages whilst trying to access their invoice. At 19:09:36 PT, sellers reported the syi2.0 selling form was not working, stalling on the image details page, not allowing the seller to proceed to the next page. At 21:10:41 PT, users reported the site was crashing, unable to access ebaY pages across the site. At 21:11:11 PT, more users reported page cannot be displayed errors across ebaY.

On 17 Oct 03 at 07:39:23 PT, users received "Network error- Connection reset by peer." messages whilst trying to access ebaY pages. At 07:52:07 PT, users continued to receive widespread error messages. At 08:01:47 PT, users continued to report problems with ebaY access. At 13:25:00 PT, the problems had not abated. At 21:00:09 PT, users of the ebaY scumware toolbar reported the toolbar reminder bell was not working. At 23:58:06 PT, more users reported toolbar problems.

On 18 Oct 03 at 06:45:17 PT, sellers reported they were not receiving end of auction notices. Sold items were also not showing up in the sold section of My ebaY.

On 19 Oct 03 at 12:53:34 PT, buyers reported that ebaY search was not working. At 13:04:35 PT, buyers using search kept getting messages that the search had returned too many items, even on searches that return very few items. At 16:23:32 PT, sellers reported the syi2.0 system was not working, preventing the listing from completing and going through. At 19:36:39 PT, buyers reported their bids were being blocked, not accepting their password.

On 20 Oct 03 at 16:33:41 PT, users reported cgi6 was crashing, preventing sellers lists from opening, returning messages saying, "There was an error in your input'. At 23:10:10 PT, sellers reported that syi2.0 was not working, requiring the seller to sign in on each page accessed. At 23:13:44 PT, sellers reported that PayPal notices were being sent a full week after an auction ended.

On 21 Oct 03 at 0:01:44 PT, users reported having to reload auction pages in order to view items. At 04:09:48 PT, ebaY posted that they had fixed a problem with bidder search not returning any results. At 08:30:00 PT, users reported they couldn't download the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar.

On 22 Oct 03 at 04:32:07 PT, buyers reported they could not make a purchase using the buy it now feature, as they could not get past the log in page. At 07:38:58 PT, users reported they could not access their My ebaY page, receiving page not found messages. Accessing live help returned the same messages. At 09:44:05 PT, sellers reported that they could not upload items using Turbo Lister.

On 23 Oct 03 at 05:01:04 PT, users could not access their My ebaY pages. The syi2.0 page would not load, preventing the seller from completing the listing. There were also problems with ebaY Motors, and further reports that bidder search was not working. At 23:51:16 PT, users reported script errors when trying to download the ebaY toolbar.

On 24 Oct 03 at 12:41:27 PT, users reported that seller's lists were not showing up, preventing buyers from viewing seller's other items.

On 25 Oct 03 at 08:25:40 PT, sellers reported that buyers were being defaulted to purchase two items when they only wanted one. At 09:20:13 PT, users reported that the listings in each category were showing up in reverse order, so items were defaulted to those ending soonest, as opposed to the normal order of newest items first. This was a particular problem as those sellers who paid for featured in category options, were not getting their items shown on the first page in the category. until someone else listed another item. ebaY initially claimed that this was "normal" but eventually acknowledged it as a glitch they would eventually get around to fixing.

On 26 Oct 03 at 01:45:48 PT, ebaY posted that during the time change from PDT to PST, sellers trying to list items received error messages. ebaY posted at 10:10:21 PT, the Seller List function (via the By Seller tab in Search and View Seller's Other Items) was not updating with new items. In addition, the My ebaY bidding and selling tabs were unavailable. At 10:12:56 PT, users reported that many ebaY functions were not working. Users could not search their items using the last two weeks option, relisting from closed auctions returned "Web Site Not Responding The web site you have requested may be experiencing technical difficulties due to a busy or broken server." messages. At 10:16:38 PT, listing using the syi2.0 function was down, as was relisting, returning error messages. At 10:18:22 PT, seller's lists were reported down, showing the seller with no items listed. Search was also working erratically. At 10:20:12 PT, buyers reported the items on their watch lists were missing, preventing them from bidding on items. Seller's lists remained down. At 10:20:59 PT, users reported they could not access ebaY receiving error messages. At 10:37:57 PT, sellers reported their lists showing no items though they had hundreds of listings up, returning messages saying, "This seller is not currently offering any items for sale." At 10:42:40 PT, seller's lists remained missing in action. At 10:47:59 PT, all items remained missing from My ebaY. At 10:49:36 PT, users trying to access ebaY received, "This function is currently unavailable We apologise that you are not able to access this feature at the present time. Our Technical Support Team has been notified and we are working on resolving this difficulty as quickly as possible. At 10:54:08 PT, ebaY posted that the ability to view Seller lists, as well as the ability to use the bidding and selling tabs in My ebaY were down. ebaY claimed they had fixed the problem. At 10:56:07 PT, users reported My ebaY showing blank pages. At 10:57:27 PT, sellers continued to report their seller lists missing from the site. My ebaY continued to not have the items showing, despite ebaY's claim of fixes. At 11:01:31 PT, sellers reported that items that closed in the previous hour, not only had no bids during that time, a very unusual circumstance, and no end of auction notices were sent by ebaY or PayPal on all the items. At 11:14:34 PT, ebaY continued to show that seller's had no items for sale. My ebaY continued to not show items. At 11:25:22 PT, ebaY posted that My ebaY was not showing items on the bidding and selling tabs. At 11:53:15 PT, ebaY reported that the bidding and selling tabs in My ebaY were working. The Seller lists were also available again. ebaY said it would take a short time for seller's lists to with new items. At 11:53:31 PT, users reported the lists were once again viewable. At 12:00:34 PT, sellers reported their lists were still missing items. At 23:09:50 PT, users once again reported the seller lists were not showing up, getting messages that the seller isn't selling anything. This also applied to closed items on seller search. In addition sellers reported they were not able to list new items.

On 27 Oct 03 at 03:30:18 PT, sellers reported that the items they listed on the previous evening were not showing up in search, after 10 hours. At 05:19:01 PT, several other sellers posted the same problem, none of their items listed the previous day had indexed in search or showing up in their stores. At 08:23:18 PT, ebaY posted that new items listed were not available when searching by Title or Title and Description Search. At 08:51:16 PT, sellers continued to report the items missing from search. At 08:51:44 PT, a user reported receiving and end of auction notice dated 25 Oct for an item that ended the previous week. At 08:59:39 PT, users reported that search was not working at all. when they inserted a search term, it showed up in parenthesis with a minus sign in front of it and returned no results. At 09:00:28 PT, users reported that sign in was not holding. At 09:04:04 PT, users reported cgi3 was not working properly, causing problems with sign in. At 10:35:29 PT, sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister, receiving error messages that say that it cannot connect to the network. At 11:03:36 PT, ebaY posted that Title and Title and Description Search was 5-10 hours behind in indexing new items. ebaY expected indexing to be caught up by that night. At 12:26:18 PT, sellers continued to report their items not indexed. At 13:02:26 PT, the ebaY chat boards were returning error messages. At 13:29:53 PT, sellers reported problems with the seller manager program, with the program returning 404 error messages. At 14:21:20 PT, users of the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar, reported that it was not working. At 16:43:19 PT, a seller reported that the word 'auction' in their item descriptions was linked to a site at auction.com. They had not put this link in and did not know where it came from, and had to edit it out. At 18:28:57 PT, users reported they were getting messages saying "invalid character- error has occurred in the script of this page" on every ebaY page they accessed. At 20:00:47 PT, users reported images on auctions were not downloading. the ebaY home page was also corrupted. At 20:40:48 PT, sellers reported they could not find their item in search. At 20:55:48 PT, users continued to report problems accessing with the home page. The syi2.0 listing function was also not working. At 20:57:05 PT, users reported that My ebaY was not working properly. Ended auctions were listed under 'Items I am selling'. At 21:37:03 PT, sellers reported they were once again not receiving end of auction notices on closed items.

On 28 Oct 03 at 05:41:24 PT, ebaY posted that indexing was now once again working normally after not working for over 30 hours. At 06:50:51 PT, users continued to report sign in was not working properly. At 10:04:15 PT, sellers reported that the counters provided by ebaY partner Andale, were not working. At 12:49:41 PT, users reported images in auctions were not downloading. At 17:17:29 PT, sellers reported Turbo Lister was not working, receiving "certificate date is invalid" messages. At 17:34:12 PT, users trying to revise listings received messages saying, "Undefined error : SYI.BIZ.637". At 18:49:20 PT, users reported that they could not access My ebaY. I At 20:19:54 PT, users reported that search was returning Script Error messages.

On 29 Oct 03 at 11:07:37 PT, sellers reported problems with their ebaY seller manager program, as it wouldn't link buyers payments to PayPal. At 12:57:14 PT, users trying to access ebaY received Script Error messages.

On 30 Oct 03 at 02:20:30 PT, users reported they could not access the ebaY announcement pages. At 05:47:35 PT, sellers reported they were having problems with listing items, getting repeated "page cannot be found" messages. In addition, there were problems with selecting a category. At 07:01:23 PT, users reported their relisted items were defaulting to a one day listing. Sellers are warned to carefully check their items when relisting to make sure the options are correct. At 13:08:43 PT, sellers reported continued problems with listing items using syi2.0. Their images would not upload to ebaY pic services. At 12:41:23 PT, ebaY posted that between 11:40 and 12:27 PT, the PayPal site was down. At 17:37:00 PT, users reported widespread intermittent invalid item pages. At 18:25:43 PT, sellers reported they were having trouble getting into Turbo Lister.

On 31 Oct 03 ebaY's Liveworld partner took the chat boards down for maintenance from approx 01:00 to 0:400 PT. At 04:33:54 PT, users of ebaY's sellers assistant program could not access it receiving messages that their password and ID were incompatible. At 06:40:16 PT, ebaY posted that users were seeing broken images in the item listings. ebaY claimed this was due to some sellers still having their images on the iPix, and that the images needed to be moved to the ebaY picture services host. At 07:19:53 PT, sellers reported they could not complete listings using syi2.0 as they would get stuck on the ebaY picture services page, which would not upload their images. At 07:53:31 PT, users reported they were having trouble accessing ebaY through AOL. At 16:23:39 PT, buyers reported that bidding on items was returning "562 SERVER ERROR" or "501 THIS PAGE CANNOT BE DISPLAYED" messages. On the few bids that did go through, no bid confirmation emails were received.
