On 1 Feb at 05:45:28 PT users reported the PAYPAL/Billpoint discussion boards down. At 08:18:28 PT users with Netscape 4.7 could not access the discussion boards. At 09:26:03 PT users reported they were having problems signing in. Regular sign in would not respond and the only way to sign in was with SSL. At 09:47:14 PT ebaY posted that users with Hotmail accounts were not receiving ebaY administrative emails. ebaY claimed the problem was on Hotmail's side and had been resolved. At 13:25:05 PT attempts to access the discussion boards caused diversion to the announcement page. At 13:37:12 PT the threads were working again. At 15:54:40 PT users with Netscape reported having problems with search. At 19:24:48 PT ebaY customer support acknowledged that Mister Lister was not working causing collections to be delayed. Nathan L.N. at ebaY Mister Lister support said that, "Our engineers have been notified, and are currently working to resolve the issues."

On 2 Feb Mister Lister was still not working. At 07:23:40 PT some broadband satellite users were having problems signing using the regular page, and had to use the SSL page or connect with a dial-up account to sign in. At 09:19:22 PT users reported page loads were very slow. At 13:34:06 PT sellers reported relist problems. Pages would not reload stalling at Step 3, submit your listing. At 17:53:23 PT ebaY posted that gallery images were down from 17:14 PT to 17:33 PT and not visible. At 18:05:38 PT sellers reported that their new listings were not showing in their sellers list. At 20:31:44 PT users continued to report problems with missing gallery images. At 21:34:33 PT sellers reported that Turbo Lister was not working, with the almost daily update download stalling. At 21:49:17 PT sellers reported the "sell similar item" feature in My ebaY was not working, randomly changing the shipping fee in ebaY's checkout or carrying the shipping fee from the previous auction over to the new one.

On 3 Feb Mister Lister still down. At 00:39:17 PT users trying to access the chat boards received messages that, "Invalid Board Sorry, this chat board is no longer available." At 00:41:27 PT ebaY posted that My ebaY and the ebaY Chat Boards, were down from 00:18 PT to 00:29 PT. At 04:06:56 PT users reported that the ebaY spyware toolbar was not working. At 06:40:08 PT ebaY users again reported gallery images were not showing. The camera icons were also missing form many auctions. At 07:10:09 PT the entire site slowed down to a crawl. At 07:11:52 PT users received Invalid Board messages again, with this problem continuing until 13:11:31 PT. This problem started again at 16:39:29 PT. At 17:36:53 PT buyers reported when trying to bid they received messages saying, "WARNING: This Page has Expired" preventing a rebid. At 17:38:09 PT users again received "Invalid Board Sorry, this chat board is no longer available." messages. This problem continued intermittently through 21:42:37 PT.

On 4 Feb Mister Lister continued to not function. At 02:32:28 PT buyers trying to search received "document contains no data" messages. At 05:10:29 PT more users reported search not working. At 07:07:24 PT a user received an email that their credit card was no longer valid and ebaY had removed it. This was happening despite the fact that the credit card was not expired. This was not a scam and ebaY had actually removed the card. Unfortunately ebaY included clickable links in the email reinforcing the ability of scammers to copy ebaY's emails to trick ebaY members. See PQOD in TAGnotes for more on this. At 18:17:46 PT sign in was down again. Users received messages saying, "Bad request Invalid request -- no address for host signin.ebay.com" This effectively blocked buyers from bidding. At 19:05:23 PT users received page not available messages. ebaY took PayPal down at approx 23:00 PT until approx 00:30 PT on 5 Feb.

On 5 Feb At 07:51:35 PT a seller reported the newest downloaded of SAP did not work and disable it returning 429 errors. ebaY required another download to fix the problems but that did not work either. At 11:43:51 PT sellers reported that relisting items caused multiple relists of the same items. At 13:22:33 PT buyers reported they could not see images on sellers auctions. At 14:10:41 PT users reported PayPal very slow or inaccessible. At 14:15:40 PT PayPal continued to be very slow. At 15:40:28 PT a buyer reported that ebaY's Vehicle Care Management Inspection Service provided service in line with all ebaY's service - non-existent. They were not retuning calls. At 18:18:40 PT users reported having problems accessing the discussion boards.

On 6 Feb at 04:20:02 PT Mister Lister continued non-functional. At 08:52:02 PT sellers were having problems getting the fixed price listing to function. At 10:08:12 PT sellers continued to report Mister Lister collections not showing up after being uploaded. At 14:58:06 PT the listing form went down, preventing sellers from listing. Sellers received "569 No Data This Web page could not be opened with the specified browser request. Please try again later." At 15:00:02 PT sellers continued to report the SYI2.0 form down returning, "Network Error Unable to read URL from host cgi5.ebay.com: Connection reset by peer" At 15:01:07 PT users also reported relist down. At 15:04:46 PT buyers reported being unable to bid. The SYI2.0 page continued down until 15:12:31 PT, when the page came back up but no longer recognized the seller. The SYI2.0 was back at 15:16:41 PT ebaY posted at 15:17:12 PT that the SYI 2.0 form was down from 14:53 PT to 15:08 PT. At 15:20:00 PT sellers continued to report relist was down, not recognizing the seller. At . 15:34:44 PT sellers reported the SYI form was down again. At 16:13:07 PT the entire site crashed yielding, "The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings." This was brief but intermittent crashes started again at 20:32:43 PT. At 20:43:27 PT sellers continued to get invalid ID messages when trying to list and relist. At 21:58:30 PT sellers reported the scheduling feature was down giving messages that the seller was using a past date, though this was not the case.

On 7 Feb at 05:14:25 PT buyers reported the going, going gone, section was gone. At 07:07:24 PT sign of the site crashing were observed, with cgi3 errors preventing sign in. At 07:17:13 PT users reported a coding error on category 2651. At 07:35:37 PT users reported that the free ebaY/Andale counters had ceased working, for example an auction would show 23 bids but only 13 views of the auction. The ebaY spyware tool bar was also reported non functional. At 11:08:12 PT users trying to post on the chat boards receives a message that. "%1 is not a valid Windows NT application" At 11:19:26 PT buyers reported they could not view auctions, preventing them from bidding receiving messages that "We were unable to process your request." At 15:12:21 PT more buyers reported being unable to view auctions. This continued until 15:38:13 PT, though reloading multiple times would sometimes bring up the auction.

On 8 Feb at 02:15:41 PT ebaY posted that not all store items were appearing in Stores Search. At 02:21:58 PT ebaY announced that their iPix picture services were down from 23:41 PT on Fri 7 Feb until 01:00 PT on Sat 8 Feb. Images were not opening. At 05:33:50 PT Turbo Lister users were having problems with using the program. Entering their user name and password returned error messages. At 06:31:28 PT users trying to access auction listing pages received "400 Bad Request" error messages. At 07:54:29 PT buyers reported seller auction list pages were down. Clicking an item listing from a seller's auction list yielded a "unavailable/default error" page. Searching for items via title search also returned error messages. At 08:13:37 PT sellers reported more problems with Turbo Lister. Turbo Lister problems continued until 10:13:59 PT. At 12:46:44 PT users reported they could not access auctions. At 14:31:29 PT ebaY posted that Books, Art and Home & Garden: Baby categories were down, and buyers could not view items. At 15:39:48 PT users continued to report problems with Turbo Lister connecting. At 19:54:55 PT sellers reported problems with the SYI2.0 pages, receiving "Page Not Found" messages when trying to list.

On 9 Feb at 12:47:03 PT buyers reported that items found in a search would not open, preventing access to auctions and bidding. At 14:20:31 PT users reported ebaY's wireless service was not working. The log in did not work yielding error messages. At 18:49:27 PT users could not access any auction pages. At 18:49:35 PT users started getting widespread messages, "Network Error Unable to read URL from host cgi.ebay.com: Connection reset by peer". Seller search was down. At 18:53:40 PT users reported they could use title search but seller search was still down. Users also reported My ebaY very slow. At 18:55:27 PT users reported the ebaY announcement board was down. Auctions were inaccessible from any links. At 18:59:33 PT trying to open an item returned page can't be displayed errors. ebaY posted at 19:00:19 PT that auction item pages were down. At 19:18:13 PT access to item pages remained inaccessible. At 19:23:11 PT buyers reported they could not access items on their Watch or Bidder Lists from My ebaY, or from title search. Buyers continued to report these problems through 19:32:30 PT. At 19:50:20 PT ebaY posted that item pages were down from 18:46 PT to 19:25 PT. At 20:32:33 PT sellers reported that Turbo Lister would not upload collections.

On 10 Feb at 09:37:22 PT sellers reported that relists were throwing error messages. At 09:41:31 PT seller reported not being able to list, with pages of the SYI2.0 pages not opening. At 09:44:25 PT sellers reported that refreshing the page several times would sometimes get it to open. At 10:05:57 PT users reported PayPal down. At 10:31:11 PT users trying to access the chat boards received messages saying that the page was not available. At 12:14:06 PT ebaY posted that sign in links were returning error messages. At 12:49:01 PT users reported more PayPal access problems. At 12:59:29 PT users could not connect to PayPal via a satellite connection but could access it via dialup. At 13:12:00 PT ebaY posted that there were still problems with sign in, preventing users from signing in, or bidding. At 15:02:44 PT more users reported PayPal down and inaccessible. At 15:33:03 PT sellers reported they could not get Turbo Lister to connect with ebaY. At 17:39:05 PT buyers reported they could not bid, receiving error messages when trying to place a bid. Error said, "Network error Unable to read URL from host cgi.ebay.com: Connection reset by peer" At 19:26:55 PT a buyer reported that an item they had purchased in November was showing up again as a current purchase in My ebaY. At 19:46:41 PT sellers reported that SYI2.0 was only showing the buy it now option, not allowing standard auction options.

On 11 Feb at 06:13:31 PT users continued to report problems with accessing PayPal. PayPal has a server down at internap (pnap) in San Jose. They were dropping packets from this front door server. PayPal appeared to come back at 06:48:07PT. At 07:05:20 PT a seller reported their images were not appearing on their auctions or gallery. At 12:49:33 PT users reported that SYI2.0 was not working, preventing sellers from listing. At 12:46:31 PT ebaY announced that PayPal was down for users of ISPs, including AOL, ATT, and others. Some of these users could access PayPal via https://www.paypal.com. At 14:06:41 PT sellers reported that ebaY was not recognizing them, refusing passwords. At 14:35:15 PT ebaY reported that the access problems with PayPal had been fixed. At 18:23:40 PT users reported widespread sign in problems with feedback sign in.

On 12 Feb at 08:22:24 PT ebaY posted that the ability to view the account status was down from 07:42 PT to 07:57 PT. At 09:01:29 PT users reported PayPal was down returning 3004 error messages. At 09:33:27 PT users reported widespread "page cannot be displayed" messages. At 12:52:59 PT another seller reported having reached their spending limit. At 15:04:54 PT ebaY announced that ebaY's free Andale Counters were not working. ebaY recommended that sellers contact ebaycounters@andale.com. At 17:30:31 PT users reported that search was down, returning zero results on common searches normally returning many items. At 17:33:53 PT users reported needing to enter a four digit security number before being able to sign in. At 19:26:50 PT users reported that search continued to be down intermittently. At 20:41:20 PT users reported the feedback forum was down, not allowing the posting of feedback. The messages said, "Sorry, you are not allowed to participate in the Feedback Forum at this time. Our records indicate that this user ID has been suspended from eBay or is not longer a registered eBay user." This was not true and the user ID was in good standing. At 23:37:06 PT sellers reported Mister Lister collections were not showing up

On 13 Feb at 03:52:11 PT users of Internet Explorer were having problems accessing ebaY. At 09:09:02 PT users reported the ebaY spyware toolbar was causing problems with their IE program, preventing them from using IE. The user was also having trouble uninstalling the spyware toolbar. For those having trouble uninstalling this ebaY spyware try CyberMedia unInstaller tool. You can download this at - http://shareware.tqn.com/library/ctools/bltpruni.htm At 20:21:48 PT users trying to use Turbo Lister could not upload their items getting network error messages.

On 14 Feb ebaY took their site down for maintenance from approx 00:06:03 PT to 02:30:58 PT. ebaY also took ebaY payments down. At 08:07:25 PT buyers reported that My ebaY was not working, the watch feature was down, as was the send a listing to a friend feature. Seller lists were also down. At 08:08:54 PT seller lists disappeared across the site. At 08:09:39 PT users reported widespread problems including board access problems. At 08:09:26 PT My ebaY was not working, with information missing from seller and buyer pages. At 08:10:19 PT user feedback disappeared from user ID info cards. At 08:12:15 PT ebaY posted that users were having problems accessing the site, including sign in. At 08:17:52 PT users reported My ebaY still down and watch functions unavailable. At 08:29:07 PT ebaY again acknowledged that there were problems viewing the Items I'm Bidding On and Items I'm Selling functions within My ebaY, as well as the View Seller's Other Items page. At 08:37:15 PT the feedback system continued down and seller search remained broken. At 08:37:23 PT some pages started to come back on My ebaY. At 08:38:19 PT seller's lists remained missing. At 08:40:05 PT sellers auctions reappeared. At 09:06:57 PT ebaY posted that many functions were down from 07:48 PT to 08:42 PT, including the Items I'm Bidding On and Items I'm Selling functions within My ebaY, and View Seller's Other Items. ebaY claimed the problems had been fixed. At 16:13:29 PT the feedback to leave system was broken. At 20:45:04 PT users received 404 and 405 error messages whilst trying to access various ebaY pages, and had to come in through Canada to access the ebaY site. ebaY took PayPal down for maintenance at approx 2300

On 15 Feb PayPal was down until approx 0130PT. At 08:54:02 PT sellers reported problems with the latest Turbo Lister download preventing access to TL pages. At 12:27:09 PT sellers reported the listing page for ebaY Motors was not working, not allowing input in the description, condition or payment methods sections. At 12:49:53 PT more users of the ebaY spyware toolbar reported problems with it. At 16:10:22 PT users reported problems with the feedback system receiving messages that, "Internal Error The feedback option default is unrecognized. Please report this problem to eBay queue@support.ebay.com". At 19:04:51 PT a user reported that someone else's User ID was in the sign in box. There have been increasing reports of users logging in to ebaY and finding them logged in to a completely unknown persons account. At 21:06:54 PT users reported receiving the 4 digit security number to sign in. At 23:46:35 PT more users reported problems with the ebaY spyware toolbar, this time not allowing access to My ebaY or search.

On 16 Feb at 12:23:35 PT users reported PayPal down. At 12:33:51 PT users trying to access PayPal received messages that the PayPal website was down and would be available at approx 14:00 PT. At 23:00:45 PT buyers reported that ebaY iPix images were not showing on auction listings. At 23:03:32 PT users received page load errors whilst trying to access ebaY pages. At 23:17:51 PT users noted that the ebaY clock was arbitrarily adding an hour to the time remaining on an auction, then revert back to the proper time on refresh. Users also noted that several ebaY gifs were not opening, causing pages to stall. At 23:24:13 PT users posted that the navbar/ebay_logo_home.gif isn't downloading on the auction listing pages, so none of the auction images were showing.

On 17 Feb at 04:39:50 PT sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister downloads. At 05:32:38 PT users reported ebaY log in was not working. At 11:42:50 PT, sellers reported problems listing using SYI2.0 receiving category error messages, "invalid category leaf category not found". At 13:47:37 PT buyers reported that every time they clicked on "watch this item" they had to log in. At 18:52:38 PT users noted they were getting website not responding errors when trying to post on the chat boards.

On 18 Feb At 12:52:56 PT buyers reported search was not working. At 15:31:42 PT sellers trying to schedule auctions were again getting "you cannot post on this date it has already passed" messages. This message was received no matter how far in the future the user tried to schedule the auction. At 17:15:41 PT users reported having problems logging in. At 18:53:58 PT sellers who had received the ebaY Turbo Listed DC reported that it also did not work. freezing at the terms and conditions screen.

On 19 Feb at 15:45:12 PT users received "this page can't be displayed" messages whilst trying to access ebaY. At 16:02:54 PT more users reported "this page can't be displayed" messages whilst trying to access ebaY. At 16:03:02 PT users received cgi3 errors preventing log in. At 16:03:49 PT users reported the site crashing with more problem reports coming in at 16:04:41 PT.

On 20 Feb at 05:16:09 PT users reported widespread access problems. At 06:06:13 PT sellers reported that buyers using the PayPal instant payment button on fixed priced listings, received messages saying the seller was NARU (not a registered user). At 07:01:31 PT sellers noted that the PayPal link gives their email address making it accessible to spammers. At 08:48:31 PT there were more reports of users logging in, only to have the log in go through so they were logged in as an unknown person. A user reported that they had heard from PayPal that PayPal was aware of the "exposed" email address with their logos, and are working on a solution. 17:39:54 PT users reported the ebaY email system was down. At 18:40:12 PT sellers reported the API was not allowing the addition of gallery images. At 19:28:43 PT the passport system was down. Turbo Lister now requires the use of an HTML "TABLE" tag instead of the "BODY" tag to specify a background image. http://pages.ebay.com/turbo_lister/tips.html. At 20:57:22 PT users continued to complain about having problems with their ebaY spyware toolbar not linking up with ebaY.

On 21 Feb ebaY took PayPal down once again for maintenance between approx 00:30 PT and 03:00 PT. ebaY took the ebaY site and the ebaY payment systems down for maintenance from approx 01:00 PT to 03:00 PT. ebaY crashed at 12:24:30 PT. At 12:27:09 PT users trying to access ebaY received messages saying, "Our Site Is Temporarily Unavailable Due To Scheduled Maintenance. We are sorry, but our site is temporarily unavailable due to weekly scheduled maintenance that occurs every Friday from 1:00 AM to 3:00 AM PST." At 13:31:04 PT, more users reported receiving "Our Site Is Temporarily Unavailable" messages when trying to view an auction listing. At 17:04:25 PT sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister. The program would open but would not create new items. nor would the drop down menus respond. Downloading the newest update did not resolve the problems. Another seller suggested that after a download of Turbo Lister or a TL update has completed, the seller should shut down their computer then reboot. Use the EXIT command on the program, rather than closing it with the X button in the upper right hand corner. If the program locks up when using it, shut down and reboot again. At 18:57:27 PT sellers reported problems submitting listings. At 19:26:55 PT search was not working, with subsequent pages of search results showing a completely different category than the one searched. For example a search in children's glass would have the second page of the search showing computer ram, or some other totally unrelated area. At 21:03:26 PT users reported problems with viewing auctions with a MAC computer and Netscape browsers. There were strange changes to type size. An ebaY shill poster commented that ebaY was aware of the problem and were working on code corrections for new versions of Netscape and MAC users. At 21:10:35 PT sellers reported that it was taking multiple attempts to get the SYI form to work. Users received "%1 is not a valid Windows NT application."

On 22 Feb at 12:01:49 PT sellers reported they could not list items. Trying to submit an info page just resulted in a white screen and caused the computer to freeze.

On 23 Feb at 05:31:54 PT the chat boards were intermittently down. This continued through 06:56:00 PT. At 11:18:59 PT buyers reported getting error messages when trying to place bids, but the bid did still go through on some bids. The problem worsened at 11:27:42 PT returning "The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. Please try the following: Click the Refresh button, or try again later." At 16:13:56 PT buyers reported problems with bidding and not being able to purchase fixed price items. At 17:22:07 PT users reported they were not getting end of auction (EOA) notices from ebaY. At 17:47:32 PT sellers reported Turbo Lister not working, returning "Server name or address could not be resolved." messages. At 18:55:43 PT users trying to access My ebaY received messages that, "This function is currently unavailable We apologize that you are not able to access this feature at the present time. Our Technical Support Team has been notified and we are working on resolving this difficulty as quickly as possible. Please visit the eBay Announcements Board for updates on recent and upcoming changes, major system issues, and other important eBay news. http://www2.ebay.com/aw/announce.shtml" At 19:31:36 PT more users reported that they were not getting EOA notices. At 19:36:20 PT ebaY was not recognizing sellers on log in. At 19:36:47 PT users reported that EOA's were running 5 hours behind. At 20:04:39 PT users reported they were unable to set up a sellers account. At 20:53:06 PT users continued to report no EOA's coming in, and slow reloads across the site. Users also reported that sold items were appearing in their unsold section of My ebaY. At 21:42:46 PT sellers reported listing problems. At 22:27:33 PT users reported they could not access their preference page on My ebaY. They received error messages that "due to inactivity you must login again". At 22:49:01 PT users continued to report very slow reloads on ebaY pages.

On 24 Feb at 03:53:36 PT sellers reported that the item listing page was missing items listed the previous night. Items listed after the missing items were showing. At 06:59:19 PT ebaY posted that the ability to make a one-time payment to an ebaY account using a credit card was down from 05:45 PT to 06:42 PT. At 12:09:27 PT ebaY again reported there had been a problem with one time payments, but that it was fixed again. At 19:35:25 PT users attempting to post on the chat boards received 569 error messages. At 20:20:14 PT sellers trying to use Turbo Lister could not start a listing. At 22:17:37 PT users reported the site very slow, making access very difficult. Users worked around the problem by accessing ebaY US through the ebaY Canada site.

On 25 Feb at 08:45:50 PT sellers reported that their listing descriptions were not showing up as they were supposed to, with various HTML commands overridden by ebaY. The worst affected was the font type and size. The workaround for this problem appeared to be the addition of a close font command (< /font >) at the beginning of the description box. At 12:35:30 PT ebaY was jacking with the code again causing problems with some third party services such as Vrane.Com. At 12:37:15 PT sellers reported problems with AuctionSubmit. At 16:47:50 PT sellers continued to report problems with their third party service providers due to ebaY code jacking.

On 26 Feb at 11:18:55 PT sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister. making it impossible to load auctions. At 18:13:45 PT users continued to report not receiving EOA's.

On 27 Feb at 13:53:55 PT ebaY crashed. At 13:56:17 PT users received messages that, "The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings." Buyers could not access listings to bid. At 14:09 PT ebaY posted that users were receiving error messages when viewing item pages. ebaY claimed the problem was intermittent, and did not affect all items. Users reported widespread problems. At 14:25:04 PT users reported the site back up and buyers were once again able to access listings. At 14:34:02 PT ebaY posted that item pages were down from 13:52 PT to 14:15 PT, and users received error messages when trying to view item pages. ebaY claimed the issue was intermittent, and did not affect all items. At 16:21:42 PT users reported the Turbo Lister download was taking approx 50 minutes and once completed the program disappears from the users computer and the interface icon also disappears. Shutting the computer down and rebooting appeared to correct the problem.

On 28 Feb at 08:06:04 PT API users reported online tech support was not working on the developers site, returning "Sorry, your session has expired" messages no matter how often the users tried to log in. At 12:37:07 PT users reported 569 error messages when trying to post or reload the chat boards. At 14:52:12 PT ebaY was not recognizing established sellers denying them access to high bidder email addresses in their ended auctions. At 17:04:39 PT users trying to download the ebaY spyware toolbar reported being stuck in a loop, preventing download. At 18:39:47 PT sellers reported that the newest Turbo Lister download was frying the program and causing it to disappear. At 18:50:57 PT sellers reported the newest TL download was causing an error in the database.dll. At 19:09:27 PT users reported that ebaY was again jacking the site code causing auctions to show up strangely. At 19:28:51 PT users received error messages whilst clicking on seller store tags. At 20:16:25 PT sellers reported more TL problems, receiving error messages when attempting to upload and messages that, "The date in the certificate is invalid or has expired".
