At 19:06:18 PT sellers reported that though they are registered and verified sellers on ebaY, they could not log in to sell. ebaY kept asking for credit card information. At 21:43:25 PT users reported they could not log in to post on the boards.

On 2 Jun 2003 at 9:35:20 PT buyers could not view auction item pages receiving "this page cannot be displayed" messages. At 9:36:46 PT more users reported no access to item pages with all access to items across the site crashing at 9:37:29 PT. Buyers continued to report no item access through 9:40:07 PT. At 09:45:34 PT ebaY posted that from 9:30 to 9:40 PT, the ability to access Item pages was down as was registration. At 18:32:28 PT users reported problems with the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar. Uninstalling and reinstalling did not solve their problems. User reported problems through 19:45:20 PT.

On 3 Jun 2003 at 7:32:06 PT, sellers trying to use themes and layouts through Turbo Lister, could not get the selected theme to show on the listing. At 10:11:22 PT the ebaY email system was not working, returning error messages and just not sending messages to other users. At 12:56:42 PT users continued to report the ebaY email system down, preventing all communication with sellers and buyers. ebaY store sellers also reported they were not receiving notices of sales from ebaY. At 15:52:33 PT sellers reported they when they relisted an item, they were receiving a notice that, "Note: You attempted to re-submit an item that you have already listed. You may list a similar item by clicking the "Sell a Similar Item" button below." though the item relisted. At 15:56:09 PT sellers reported that when using ebaY iPix images to change an image, ebaY iPix tried to force a download before the image could be used. At 18:46:33 PT, users reported trouble with searching completed items. The search result would show many items, but trying to sort the results by price, would return zero items found. On multiple page results, only the first page would open, with all subsequent pages showing no results.

On 4 Jun 2003 at 00:27:13 PT ebaY reported their help system was down and had just been brought back online. At 12:59:26 PT users continued to report they could not delete items from My ebaY. At 14:56:17 PT sellers reported that Turbo Lister was returning messages that network problems were preventing TL from communicating with ebaY. At 17:43:51 PT users reported the chat boards were loading very slowly.

On 5 Jun 2003 at 5:31:43 PT users reported that the PayPal payment confirmation email no longer has the item number in the subject. This forces users to open each email to see what it's for. Also, if the user responds to the recipient the subject would not have the item number either. This is particularly problematical for large sellers and buyers to track their payments and sales. At 14:20:32 PT ebaY posted that the pre-filling of payment details in PayPal was down for several hours, but had been fixed. As a result, items paid for by PayPal during this timeframe would not show the payment status in My ebaY, Selling Manager and Post-Sale Manager. In addition, PayPal transaction details on items did not include the item numbers for payments received. At 13:43:06 PT users reported that the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar was not working. This prevented users from using their browser at all. At 14:30:56 PT users complained about excessive amounts of pop up ads appearing on ebaY. This is usually caused by scumware planted on user computers and could be slipped in by ebaY downloads.

On 6 Jun 2003 at 4:57:06 PT ebaY posted the ability to view feedback and their Selling Manager was down. At 05:38:34 PT ebaY posted that from 03:46 PT to 05:13 PT, the ebaY Feedback Forum and Selling Manager were down. At 14:32:03 PT ebaY reported that the suggested categories feature on the Sell Your Item form was down. At 19:46:19 PT, Web TV users reported they were unable to access search or give feedback. They could also not bid. The users also had trouble signing in. At 20:40:06 PT users reported they could not get back to items they were viewing.

On 7 Jun 2003 00:48:54 PM PT users reported that email addresses were showing on auction listings when they should not. At 12:18:50 PT sellers reported that the ebaY Motors listing page was not working returning page cannot be displayed messages on step three of the listing process. At 12:29:34 PT, sellers reported that repeatedly submitting an ebaY Motors listing would finally make it go through. At 18:05:48 PT, sellers reported they could not preview listings or add pictures. At 19:54:51 PT, users reported having problems accessing My ebaY.

On 8 Jun 2003 at 20:50:45 PT users reported that pages were loading very slowly or timing out before opening. At 21:01:43 PT ebaY posted that the suggested categories feature on the Sell Your Item form was working again after being down for several days. At 22:47:16 PT users reported several of the chat pages were showing HTML coding instead of text.

On 9 Jun 2003 at 14:29:26 PT buyers reported they were not able to bid on item, getting messages that their user name was not recognized. At 20:39:11 PT users reported, that search was very slow. At 21:02:33 PT users reported difficulty in signing in to post on the chat boards. At 21:49:50 PT My ebaY users complained about the format on the summary pages. In particular the page was spread out too much and that without the date of auction end anywhere on the page, it made it useless for tracking purchases and sales.

On 10 Jun 2003 at 3:31:21 PT users complained that emails using the ebaY system, were once again not going through. At 19:16:47 PT ebaY's suggested category feature went down again. At 22:44:38 PT, users again reported that HTML was showing at top of the page of chat boards, instead of text.

On 11 Jun 2003 at 5:58:29 PT My ebaY was down, returning invalid user messages. At 7:53:26 PT the security numbers needed to change an email address were not showing, so no email address could be changed. At 10:01:04 PT users complained that books did not belong in the entertainment category. This was the beginning of several days of outrage by booksellers. At 10:48:38 PT ebaY reported that the suggested category feature was working once again. At 13:45:40 PT buyers complained about the jewelry category changes being so disorganized, as to make searching a chore. At 13:46:02 PT buyers reported they could not access bidding/watching page on My ebaY, preventing them from bidding. Users received messages that their user ID was not valid. At 22:42:06 PT users again reported that the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar was not working.

On 12 Jun 2003 at 6:29:03 PT, listings submitted via Turbo Lister posted auctions with shipping listed, even though shipping was not specified by the seller. At 16:25:08 PT users reported that the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar was not working. At 19:15:53 PT some sellers reported that they did not receive an invoice, though the money was withdrawn from their accounts.

On 13 Jun 2003 ebaY took their system down from approx 01:00 PT until 03:00 PT. At 4:19:04 PT sellers trying to use their ebaY Selling Manager to relist unsold items were sent to a screen that saying "Please confirm status as paid". Users reported the chat board down from 4:55:14 PT until 5:10:10 PT. At 18:04:51 PT buyers reported, they could not view item descriptions, preventing them from bidding on items. At 18:11:36 PT users trying to update their My ebaY credit card info, received credit card not valid messages even though the card was valid.

On 14 Jun 2003 at 8:55:26 PT users continued to report they could not remove items from My ebaY. Users were also having problems with the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar. At 16:03:57 PT users reported that, both the PayPal and ebaY sites were running very slowly. Users also reported problems with their third party software, which indicates that ebaY was making code changes that cause third party systems to no longer function. At 18:23:19 PT users reported, that ebaY's email system was down.

On 15 Jun 2003 at 12:30:02 PT, sellers reported that PayPal was auto adding their logos to items listed in the adult categories, even though the listing was placed by the seller without the logo. ebaY was then ending the auction for having the logo, despite the fact that it was ebaY, PayPal's owner, placing the logo in the auction in the first place. ebaY also threatened the sellers with suspension, for having the PayPal logo in their mature items auctions. At 20:02:59 PT, users reported that they were having trouble logging in, having to log in scores of times.

On 16 Jun 2003 at 12:30:04 PT new buyers reported that when trying to leave feedback they received a message that they had to be a member for 5 days first. At 17:19:00 PT users reported that their ebaY Me pages were not showing changes.

On 17 Jun 2003 at 8:31:00 PT, users reported they were having trouble signing in, receiving messages that they were not a registered user. At 12:32:40 PT users reported that item specifics were causing listing to take to much time and were unnecessary. The relist section of item specifics was not working, looping back on itself and not allowing the relist to go through. At 15:51:48 PT, a user reported that after downloading the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar the first thing it tried to do was communicate with mediaplex.com. At 17:09:52 PT, other users reported that they were also having problems with the ebaY scumware/spyware toolbar. When trying to log in to the toolbar gave undefined errors. At 20:27:31 PT sellers reported that cgi6 was down and the items on their seller lists had all disappeared. The items appeared again at 20:29:38 PT but went back down again in a few more minutes. All sellers lists showed no auctions currently listed messages, preventing bidders from viewing items for a favorite seller or using the view other item links. Sellers could not view their items so could not relist items. Sellers could not be found via seller search either. In addition, buyers could not view the items they had bid on, on My ebaY. The watch list was also not available. The site came back online at 21:08:35 PT. At 21:22:08 PT, ebaY posted that, " From 20:08 to 21:04, some features within My eBay may have been intermittently unavailable for some members. The issue is now resolved." A typical ebaY fee refund avoidance statement.

On 18 Jun 2003 sellers with stores reported that their store tags were following them even after logging out with their store related selling user ID and logging in with a non-store related alternate user ID. Users names were appearing on the cookie. This appeared to be a serious security breach. In addition, this also appeared to reveal that ebaY is planting some kind of persistent cookie on users computers that is recording users information, in contravention to ebaY's privacy policy. After many complaints, ebaY removed the store tags from the site until the security hole could be repaired. At 20:19:40 PT users reported that the end of auction notices coming from ebaY were corrupted, with nonsense text showing instead of normal text. At 20:21:04 PT other sellers reported they were not getting end of item notices at all, making it very difficult to know when something in their store sold. At 21:32:16 PT users reported that their end of auction notices had advertisements for Sears on them. ebaY was once again spamming users in emails that should not contain any third party ads, since they are directly related to the seller paid for ad. At 22:05:02 PT users reported, that search was not working properly, with search returning messages that the page could not be found. At 22:13:04 PT sellers reported, that Turbo Lister was not properly downloading the latest update, making TL unusable. At 22:16:15 PT users reported that seller search was returning a website not responding message.

On 19 Jun 2003 at 9:00:09 PT, sellers reported they were not receiving listing confirmation notices or end of auction notices. At 9:36:45 PT, more sellers reported they had not received their end of auction notices from the previous day. At 11:20:42 PT a seller noted that they wanted to add a bidder to their blocked bidder list, but all they had was the users email address, not their user ID. Since ebaY no longer allows users to access user IDs, and the blocked bidder list would not accept the email address, this was no longer a viable solution available to sellers who don't want to deal with certain buyers. At 14:14:30 PT sellers reported they were not receiving PayPal payment notices either. At 15:17:38 PT users trying to relist could not do so, with the page defaulting to the choose a category page instead of just allowing the seller to review and submit. At 15:22:37 PT sellers reported that when they clicked the relist link from My ebaY the go to review was grayed out, but when the seller opened the item up and clicked on the relist link and then the click to review & submit, it was functional. At 23:03:09 PT sellers trying to list items, received server can't be found messages. This continued to be reported until the site went down for maintenance.

On 20 Jun 2003 ebaY took the site down from approx 01:00 PT until 03:00 PT. At 04:53:22 PT ebaY reported that, the ability to make a single payment on the ebaY seller account was down from 03:00 PT to 04:32 PT. At 14:21:09 PT sellers reported that, they were not receiving end of auction emails. At 16:30:46 PT sellers continued to report they were not receiving end of auction notices. At 17:09:32 PT, a seller who had used feature plus noted that their item was not showing up as featured, and in fact no paintings were showing as featured. At 18:56:02 PT, sellers were still reporting no end of auction or listing notices. At 22:14:44 PT sellers reported that ebaY partner Andale's free auction counters were not working.

On 21 Jun 2003 at 9:45:21 PT sellers reported they were unable to list anything with their ebaY Seller's Assistant Basic program. Users also reported several other problems. Clicking on favorite sellers links intermittently returned not a registered user messages, though the seller was still registered. Changes to listings were not appearing on the listing page, though they appeared to go through correctly. Attempting to list using a gellery image returned error messages saying the link had to be in jpeg format, even though it was already in jpeg format, and was the same image used in many other auctions. The seller was charged the gallery listing fee, though no gallery image appeared. In addition the suggested category feature was not working. At 19:50:39 PT sellers reported they were not receiving their invoices, and the sign in cookie was not holding on the site.

On 22 Jun 2003 ebaY sellers continued to have their gallery images not appearing on their listing, though they were charged for the galley image. Christy, from ebaY live support acknowledged that ebaY was aware of the problem, " Christy: I have talked to our Technical team and this is an error they are working to get this corrected", but as usual there was no post about it on the announcement board (ebaY lies of omission) nor did ebaY give credits on these no show gallery images, even though ebaY knew they were not showing as paid for. At 7:02:27 PT, ebaY had still not fixed the store tag glitch, so store tags were still not appearing next to seller user IDs. At 17:09:29 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister would not upload the latest update, returning error messages that there was a network problem and it could not connect to ebaY. This prevented sellers from using TL. At 18:39:46 PT established sellers were blocked from signing in to their accounts returning invalid ID messages

On 23 Jun 2003 at 19:29:06 PT, sellers posted that when trying to list they received messages saying, "This function is currently unavailable We apologize that you are not able to access this feature at the present time. Our Technical Support Team has been notified and we are working on resolving this difficulty as quickly as possible. . . ." At 19:51:35 PT users could not sign in to the site receiving network problem messages. This prevented all use of the site, from listing to bidding.

On 24 Jun 2003 at 9:44:22 PT a seller reported that though they had 2 sales through the 'buy it now' feature, but they could not send notice emails. One comes up as "no winning bidder" and the other as "invalid value". At 15:29:33 PT, a seller reported that as she was listing, the first few listings posted, but all attempts at subsequent listings forced the seller to log in again, and they then received a password invalid message, preventing them from continuing to list. At 19:36:25 PT Turbo Lister once again returned can't connect messages. At 20:40:32 PT, a seller whose account had been hijacked, reported it to ebaY. The seller then changed their password, and ebaY went and changed the password back to the scammers password, and reinstated the scammers fake auction.

On 25 Jun 2003 at 16:40:25 PT, users were still reporting that they were not receiving their end of auction notices. At 17:14:34 PT users reported they could not access any pages on the site, continually receiving server error messages. At 17:18:11 PT users reported that they could not access to the Q&A board or the cafe. At 23:25:37 PT users reported that the bidding/watching page on My ebaY was blank.

On 26 Jun 2003 at 1:02:46 PT sellers trying to register using the new ad marketplace had their registration rejected, because the user has not provided a valid ebaY user name. The link to contact customer service did not work, and messages sent bounced back as undeliverable. At 13:08:39 PT buyers reported they were having problems with search, with 313 items returned in search but no items showing, and coding showing rather than text. At 13:46:41 PT, users reported that the ebaY email system was not working. When sending an email through the ebaY links, submitting the message would return a page saying that ebaY cannot deliver the mail. At 14:59:52 PT sellers reported that Turbo Lister was returning network problem messages. At 15:21:35 PT, more sellers reported that they have nit been able to use Turbo Lister for the past two days. At 18:15:04 PT sellers reported that when trying to list an auction the submit button returned a page not found message. At 19:23:13 PT more sellers reported the sell your item page was returning error messages preventing sellers from listing. At 21:32:26 PT the listing problems continued, with the final submission page returning error messages and not listing the auction. Sometimes the auction would list on repeated submissions and sometimes it would list several times, though without the 'success' page. Trying to end the duplicate auction was also problematical, with frequent error pages blocking access to the end the auction page.

On 27 Jun 2003at 7:07:52 PT sellers again reported problems with Turbo Lister. At 9:27:26 PT, store sellers reported that no matter what category they entered an item in, it would automatically default to the "other" category. At approx 16:30 PT, the ebaY Community Board log in went down. Users already logged in were able to post, but no other users were able to log in. If "Board Log In" was clicked on, it took the user directly to a blank white page. The source code for the page was corrupted, and the problem lasted for over an hour.

On 28 Jun 2003 at 12:55:24 PT, sellers again reported that auctions were not submitting. At 16:29:56 PT users reported that pages were loading very slowly. At 20:21:19 PT, the boards returned "page cannot be displayed" messages, preventing the pages from opening.

On 29 Jun 2003 at 15:20:39 PT, users on the ebaY US site were rerouted to the ebaY UK site. At 16:41:55 PT, buyers reported that they were not receiving their Watch item notices. At 20:06:59 PT sellers reported they could not list, as they were getting page could not be displayed messages for the past 45 minutes. At 21:08:56 PT users trying to sign in received page cannot be displayed messages.

On 30 Jun 2003 at 11:54:40 PT, users reported that the site was very slow, with pages timing out before they would load. At 23:39:58 PT, users reported that no matter what page they tried to access they would be rerouted to the ebaY homepage. The problem occurred with Internet Explorer, but not with the Netscape browser.
