On 1 Sep 2003 at 10:40:38 PT, users posted that they were having problems accessing the ebaY groups pages. When trying to sign in to users would get a message, "Welcome to eBay Groups, please sign-in. Invalid username or password. Please try again." but the board would accept no ID or password, showing all valid ones as invalid. This remained down until 10:52:29 PT. At 12:25:53 PT, users reported having problems with downloading the ebaY scumware/spyware tool bar. Attempts to download it returned error messages. At 12:37:57 PT, users who have spyware blockers on their computers reported the toolbar would not download, being blocked by their spyware program. At 12:29:50 PT, more toolbar users reported problems with it. 15:46:50 PT users signing into ebaY received pages of raw code. At 17:54:06 PT, users reported getting maintenance messages and 400 missing host messages whilst trying to access ebaY. At 18:33:44 PT sellers reported that, Turbo Lister was not installing after loading it. At 19:33:33 PT, users of ebaY groups reported widespread Spam messages from Andale, ebaY's partner. At 21:30:37 PT, users reported that attempts to access the community forums resulted in Community Forums Error messages. At 23:31:45 PT, users trying to access me pages got redirected to other ebaY pages.

On 2 Sep 2003 at 09:51:18 PT, users reported the chat and group boards were loading very slowly. At 12:18:47 PT, users reported that the feedback system was not working and users could not access feedback from their My ebaY pages. At 18:46:32 PT, users reported that they were not getting their bidding and sold auction notifications. In one case a buyer received a confirm bid notice, after the auction had been won and paid for. The automated notice arrived two days after the auction was won.

On 3 Sep 2003 at 08:25:53 PT, Jerry@ebaY continued to Spam users of ebaY groups, sending 2 or 3 a day. At 12:17:08 PT, users trying to bid on items received messages saying, "Web Site Not Responding The web site you have requested may be experiencing technical difficulties due to a busy or broken server. Please try again by clicking the Reload icon on your navigation bar or, if that doesn't work, you may want to return to the site at a later time. 502 Connection " preventing them from bidding. At 14:14:17 PT, sellers reported they could not add or change pictures in a listing. At 18:45:23 PT, users reported that whilst trying to search they received messages saying, "Server Error The following error occurred: The HTTP request is too long." At 23:49:47 PT users reported that pages would not open, sign in was not holding, and item descriptions were missing from auctions. Also, ebaY's email system was working only intermittently.

On 4 Sep 2003 at 4:07:15 PT, buyers reported they were not receiving their outbid notices. At 09:33:52 PT, users trying to access the group pages received Page Cannot be Displayed messages. At 12:48:35 PT, users trying to access the boards received, "Community Forums Error An error occurred processing your request. If this problem persists, please contact the webmaster or administrator of this site. At 12:56:21 PT, ebaY posted that PayPal's Winning Bidder Notification emails were not being sent out on time. At 16:32:34 PT, sellers could not list items as the listing form was yielding messages that the category selections were invalid. At 17:47:04 PT, buyers reported the "new" icon was missing from search results. At 21:46:41 PT, sellers reported they could not list or relist items. At 22:04:16 PT, sellers reported that they could not add images to their listings as ebaY image hosting service was not working. At 22:12:01 PT, sellers continued to report problems with ebaY image services, noting that they have been having problems using the service for several days. Sellers also reported ongoing problems with ebaY stores. clicking on any category in the store would yield no listings though several were inventoried. Only the first page of store items was visible with subsequent pages coming up blank. ebaY Live Support acknowledged the problems but made no announcements on the SAB.

On 5 Sep 2003 ebaY did site maintenance from approx 00:00 to 03:00 PT. At 01:58:31 PT, buyers reported they were having problems with search. Once they received a list of items on search results, they could not open any listing pages. At 07:55:12 PT, buyers reported that the descriptions were missing from listings and clicking on the view description button yielded no result. At 08:44:57 PT, buyers reported the new listing icon was missing from newly listed items. At 09:00:18 PT, some users reported the new listing icon was showing on category searched items but not on keyword search. The format of the keyword search results page was distorted, probably due to ebaY jerking with the code. At 14:18:35 PT, buyers reported that when they bid on an item the bid confirmation page was not showing up, taking the bidder directly back to the listing page. At 14:50:20 PT, sellers reported they could not choose a category when listing using SYI 2.0. No matter what category was chosen, the seller would get an invalid category message. At 19:04:04 PT, sellers using DSL reported they could not upload listings using Turbo Lister. At 20:25:18 PT, users reported that they were getting raw code whilst trying to access the discussion boards. At 21:51:42 PT, sellers continued to report the stores remained non functional, with items disappearing or failing to show up at all in the stores. This problem has been happening for several weeks, with ebaY making one acknowledgement of the problem and providing partial refunds to some sellers. ebaY has failed to acknowledge the ongoing problems.

On 6 Sep 2003 at 06:11:58 PT, users reported that auction pages were very slow in loading. At 07:13:15 PT, sellers reported that though they paid for a $19.95 gallery featured option, their item was not being featured. Users continued to report slow page loads through 13:58:46 PT. At 14:51:40 PT, sellers trying to use Turbo Lister could not get it to work. They kept getting messages saying, "Network problems are preventing Turbo Lister from communicating with eBay". At 19:15:41 PT, sellers reported they could not get to the SYI 2.0 pages, getting messages that kept demanding the seller confirm their credit card, despite the fact that they were an established seller with a card on file.

On 7 Sep 2003 at 0:32:15 PT, sellers reported that on relist, all their items reverted from 10 to 7 day auctions. At 08:05:24 PT, a seller reported that ebaY had given her established ebaY store name to another user. The URLs for both stores, now owned by two different people, led to the same page, putting the original seller out of business. At 12:53:06 PT, sellers reported the site was running very slowly. At 14:08:42 PT, users reported that the new item icons were not showing, and the SYI 2.0/cgi5 was running very slowly. At 17:17:35 PT, sellers trying to update an auction kept having their Spybot software kicking in, as ebaY was trying to load or install some mediaplex spyware. Once the seller refused the download the page would load, but this continued to happen on subsequent pages. At 17:56:56 PT, users reported getting a "community forums error" when signing in to post using another browser session. At 20:56:25 PT, more buyers reported the new item icon was missing from listings.

On 8 Sep 2003 at 05:42:19 PT, sellers reported that they were having problems with Turbo Lister. The font changed after the page was previewed, despite what was being inputted by the seller. At 07:00:53 PT, users reported that pages needed several refreshes to open. At 07:26:18 PT, buyers reported the new item icon was not showing on keyword searches. It appears on category searches, but not when a key word is entered in a narrower search. At 07:41:09 PT, users reported that they were getting blank pages whilst trying to access listings. At 07:51:53 PT, users reported they were not receiving Pay Pal notification. At 07:56:58 PT, sellers reported that relisted auctions were not indexed from the previous night. At 10:33:50 PT, users reported more blank pages coming up whilst navigating ebaY. At 10:48:44 PT, more users reported blank pages. At 10:59:19 PT, users reported it was taking several minutes to open item pages. At 12:22:05 PT, ebaY posted that they were aware that users were receiving errors while attempting to search by "Title and Description". At 12:23:31 PT, users reported getting pages of raw code whilst accessing ebaY's homepage. At 12:38:10 PT ebaY posted that they had fixed the problem accessing listings via title and description search. At 13:04:34 PT, users reported getting dozens of blank pages whilst trying to access listings. 14:14:20 PT, buyers again reported that the new item icon was not showing on saved searches or key word searches. At 14:29:26 PT, users reported getting blank white pages when trying to access My ebaY. At 17:37:22 PT, users reported they could not access PayPal. At 17:50:53 PT, ebaY posted the PayPal was down. At 18:09:15 PT, users continued to post PayPal was down. At 18:55:48 PT, ebaY posted that PayPal was down from 16:40 PT until 18:05 PT. At 19:32:11 PT, users continued to get error messages whilst trying to access PayPal.

On 9 Sep 2003 at 09:22:46 PT, sellers reported they could not add photos to listings. At 19:07:46 PT, users reported shipping calculator was not working. The calculator assigned a weight 2 or 3 pounds greater than what the seller inputted.

On 10 Sep 2003 at 13:00:28 PT, users reported they could not access their My ebaY pages receiving error messages that the server could not be found. At 13:23:01 PT, users reported the ebaY site running very slowly with pages with the URLs, include.ebay, ebay.static and pic.ebay stalling the page downloads. At 14:44:53 PT, users reported the new listing icon was once again appearing in at least some searches. At 15:21:07 PT, sellers scheduling auctions for future listing were being quoted a one cent gallery fee, even though their fee was actually going to be 25 cents. At 16:19:17 PT, users continued to report that the site was loading very slowly with pages stalling. At 20:14:17 PT, the slow loading was causing buyers to quit searching because they could not put up with the slow loading pages and constant time outs.

On 11 Sep 2003 at 08:43:31 PT, buyers kept getting messages that instead of seeing an item description they were receiving a message telling them to click here to see the description, which led no where. At 09:16:17 PT, users reported that ebaY pages were very slow to download making it difficult to view items. At 09:23:44 PT, the slow loading complaints continued. At 09:51:18 PT, sellers reported problems with listing items using the SYI 2.0 form. Slow loading continued across the site. At 14:24:57 PT, sellers reported that the ebaY image hosting service had not been working properly for two days. At 15:44:21 PT, users complained that the ebaY confirmation notices they were receiving contained offensive "singles" advertising images. At 16:16:21 PT, more users reported receiving the offensive sex scam advertising images from ebaY. At 17:16:23 PT, sellers relisting items noticed their gallery images were not showing up though paid for. At 17:25:49 PT, users continued to report the ebaY porn links in their ebaY confirmation messages. At 18:32:58 PT, users reported that those with images hosted by Vendio, were not showing on ebaY. At 19:06:25 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister download attempts were returning network errors. At 23:22:47 PT, the PayPal website was returning messages saying, "temporarily unavailable due to maintenance. It will be available again at approximately 3:00 AM PST."

On 12 Sep 2003 at 05:32:29 PT, sellers reported they could not download Turbo Lister successfully as it kept stalling out. At 07:52:13 PT, users reported that the gallery feature was working intermittently, often returning the click here to view image box rather than the image itself. At 09:09:46 PT, users reported they were not receiving end of auction emails. At 09:49:50 PT, users reported pages were loading very slowly. At 09:53:55 PT, sellers reported that on revising an auction the gallery image disappeared and had to be re-entered. At 10:33:19 PT, users on broadband connections were also reporting very slow page loads. At 12:56:12 PT, sellers reported they could not upload images to the ebaY image hosting system. At 15:27:51 PT, sellers reported that after downloading the newest Sales Assistant Program update they could no longer list on the site, receiving error messages. At 18:03:56 PT, sellers reported they were having trouble listing auctions. At 18:52:49 PT, sellers reported they could not use ebaY's image service to upload images on their auctions. At 20:53:41 PT, users reported the following problems with the ebaY listing page - The top of the listing picture are was introduced without notice and screwed up millions of current and pending listings; The top of page picture needlessly duplicates the bottom of the page picture and often is a duplicate of the embedded listing picture; There is no work around in TurboLister or other listing programs only in the slow and unwieldy SYI; The top of the listing picture includes a link that bypasses the entire listing such that the buyer sees only two identical pictures and the bid price. The entire listing description is missed. At 22:40:05 PT, buyers could not get images to come up on listings and descriptions were missing returning a message, "To view this page with the description, click here." though clicking on the link did not work either. At 22:42:01 PT, users searching the site got blank pages whilst trying to open listings.

On 13 Sep 2003 at 07:55:52 PT, users reported the site running very slowly. At 08:29:55 PT, sellers reported that trying to revise an item returned "this page can't be displayed" messages. Also, when trying to revise an item the gallery picture URL would disappear and have to be re-entered. At 10:14:59 PT, sellers reported ebaY's image hosting service was not working. At 18:18:50 PT, sellers reported that images were uploading on one attempt and on trying to list another item, the old image system came up and the images would not upload.

On 14 Sep 2003 at 06:18:09 PT, users reported that images were not showing at the top of the item listing pages. At 8:18:32 PT, users of the ebaY basic listing program could no longer list since the last upgrade. Listing brings up error messages preventing the seller from completing the listing. At 08:34:24 PT, established sellers were being forced to enter credit card info when trying to sell, and even after entering the info could not get into the listings form. At 13:05:10 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister was not working returning messages that the, "server name or address can not be resolved". At 13:53:52 PT, sellers reported that cgi5 was throwing error messages preventing listing. At 14:57:37 PT, a buyer reported that when searching and looking at items and looking in one category, page one auctions were ended; page 2 auctions were ended; page 3 auctions were ending in 18 hours; page 4 auctions were up to 22 hours; page 5 auctions were ending in 5 minutes; page 6 timed out. There were 162 pages listed, but page 6 was as far as pages would open. Subsequent pages of feedback were not opening either. At 17:25:54 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister was changing the format inputted by the seller, with the preview showing correctly, but the final listings showing up on the site corrupted, requiring revisions on all listings.

On 15 Sep 2003 at 05:53:16 PT, more sellers reported that their Turbo Lister uploads were not formatted in the same way they had been formatted by the seller, with all the fonts changed. This forced the seller to revise all their auctions. At 08:16:37 PT, more sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister not working properly. At 22:24:50 PT, sellers were not able to list using SYI2.0 as the listing page would not let them past the category selection.

On 16 Sep 2003 at 00:56:29 PT, sellers reported that the ebaY image hosting system was not working, preventing them from uploading images. At 10:37:44 PT, users reported that their registered information was showing up on the listing form during the listing process when you review your listing. At 13:53:14 PT, users reported that ebaY groups were not coming up. At 15:48:01 PT, users reported that posts were missing form the chat boards. Buyers reported that the screen to finalize their bids was not showing up, but the bids were being accepted. At 16:29:34 PT, users reported more board errors and missing posts.

On 17 Sep 2003 at 0 4:52:55 PT, users reported that posts were disappearing from the ebaY chat boards. At 05:02:08 PT, users reported missing post problems continued across all the ebaY boards. At 05:15:30 PT, sellers reported that item specifics was causing problems with Turbo Lister, preventing listing. At 06:05:55 PT, sellers reported that their ebaY, Half.Com and PayPal notices were only showing up sporadically. Sellers must continually check for sales because of ebaY's incompetence to provide reliable services. At 08:10:55 PT, users reported receiving community forum errors whilst trying to post. At 08:38:07 PT, users reported that ebaY pages were loading very slowly. At 09:46:09 PT, ebaY employees reported that their Live World partners were having technical issues.

On 18 Sep 2003 at 08:36:55 PT, sellers reported that when they ended an auction early, they would get a statement that, "You may provide details about why you ended your listing by adding to your item description" but when the seller clicked on the link provided to add the information a message would come up that, "You cannot Add To Description since this item has bids and has less than 12 hours remaining." At 08:50:56 PT, users reported the Liveworld page loads were very slow. At 16:58:18 PT, sellers reported that a new download of Turbo Lister was not working and the seller could not submit listings. Attempting to submit items yielded messages to download the newest version of Turbo Lister. At 17:39 PT, buyers reported that clicking on a buy it now option automatically completed the sale without going to a confirmation screen.

On 19 Sep 2003 at ebaY's partner Liveworld did maintenance on their site taking down the ebaY chat boards from 01:00 to 0:300 PT. At 02:51:02 PT, sellers reported their seller search was showing no item listed, though sellers did have active items. At 03:59:24 PT, users reported that the feedback tab on My ebaY was not loading properly, taking a long time to open and then showing raw code instead of the normal page. ebaY reported at 10:36:30 PT that, "If you’ve received an error message while relisting or revising: For a few days, in some cases, when relisting or revising an item, you may not be able to edit your pictures. This will occur if you try listing at the same time as we are transitioning your pictures to the new system. If this happens, you can either 1) continue listing without editing your pictures, or 2) return to your listing later." ebaY claimed that users could still view seller's items with images. This would continue until ebaY completed transitioning from iPix to their own image services. This change was not supposed to effect sellers who use third party systems. At 21:27:56 PT, buyers posted that no items descriptions were appearing and instead they were getting messages that, "to view description with this page click here". Clicking on the link yielded nothing. Item images were also missing from the listings.

On 20 Sep 2003 the site was stable.

On 21 Sep 2003 at 08:23:42 PT, users reported they could not download the ebaY spyware/scumware toolbar because their spyware blocker would not allow it. At 08:30:25 PT, more users reported their anti spyware programs were reporting the ebaY toolbar as spyware. At 10:50:12 PT, sellers reported they could not upload images to their listings. At 10:49:37 PT, sellers reported they could not upload collections with Turbo Lister. At 10:52:03 PT, established sellers could not use the SYI2.0 listing form because their password was being rejected. At 10:53:10 PT, sellers reported that though they uploaded the latest update of Turbo Lister, they could not upload the prepared auctions to ebaY.

On 22 Sep 2003 at 12:09:26 PT, ebaY posted that when relisting or revising items with pictures hosted by ebaY picture services, the gallery submission is failing for some listings. The problem was not affecting pictures hosted by third party systems, nor is it affecting ebaY picture services images that were recently uploaded. ebaY said it would let users know when their submission failed. If you have not received this email and are not seeing your gallery picture, ebaY claims it is because the gallery image takes several hours before it appears in search and listings. At 18:39:21 PT, ebaY posted that listings created using Selling Tools during the Penny Gallery promotion, displayed the normal 25 cent fee rather than the promotional one cent fee. ebaY said they update the seller's accounts to review the discount within 5-10 business days. At 20:02:34 PT, sellers reported they could not open the SYI 2.0 page. At 22:39:50 PT, sellers reported their gallery images were not showing.

On 23 Sep 2003 at 05:21:13 PT, sellers reported that gallery images were not showing and revise and relist were not working. At 13:09:23 PT, ebaY reported that from 11:23 PT to 13:01 PT, users could not access PayPal. At 03:49:26 PT, a seller reported that two auctions that were supposed to go into pending for launch at a later time, but instead listed immediately. In trying to end the auctions, the seller got network error messages and could not end the auctions. In IE, the seller could not sign in, so could not end the items. It took several hours before the seller could get in to end the auctions.

On 24 Sep 2003 at 06:14:29 PT, sellers reported their gallery images were not showing on their listings. At 07:47:52 PT, ebaY posted that users of ebaY picture services had their gallery image submissions fail. ebaY said they would send an email to users affected by this. ebaY again claimed that if did not get an email, but your gallery images were not showing, it was because they had not yet indexed. At 12:40:18 PT, sellers reported they had items ending in a few hours that were not showing in title or title description search, only in category search. At 12:52:23 PT, users reported that their ebaY spyware/scumware toolbar was not working. At 17:33:12 PT, users reported they could not view ebaY pages with images. At 18:24:15 PT, sellers were still having problems with their gallery images not showing, and were told by ebaY CS that the images would have to be updated manually. Even after the update the gallery images were not showing. At 21:40:40 PT, sellers reported that in the midst of listing the SYI2.0 form went down and they could not continue listing.

On 25 Sep 2003 at 07:21:09 PT, AOL users could not view listing images, though when switching to Internet Explorer the images and graphics showed. Once again, ebaY is incompatible with AOL. At 11:26:43 PT, sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister receiving messages that, "Network problems are preventing Turbo Lister from communicating with eBay". At 13:31:16 PT, buyers reported that through they would get a result on search that a large number of items were found, the results page did not show any of the items. At 15:17:53 PT, users reported that they were redirected to the UK though they were accessing US links. At 21:03:55 PT, buyers reported that when trying to access and bid on listings they received an Imagine and Win pop up that blocked them from proceeding with viewing and bidding items. If the buyer clicks back to ebaY, they ended up back on the home page instead of returning to the place in the search results where they were trying to get to.

On 26 Sep 2003 ebaY took their site down for maintenance from approximately 01:00 to 03:00 PT. The ebaY groups site was also down for maintenance during this time frame. At 10:29:42 PT, users reported that pages in My ebaY were coming up with raw coding instead of normal page results. At 11:37:19 PT, sellers reported they could not upload images through ebaY picture services. At 12:30:16 PT, more buyers reported that they kept getting diverted to the ebaY Imagine and Win page rather than the item page they were trying to view and bid on, preventing them from being able to bid.

On 27 Sep 2003 at 08:57:51 PT, sellers who paid to have gallery images on their listings reported the gallery images were not showing, instead showing a square link on the left-hand column which reads "Click here to see the picture". At 15:54:07 PT, sellers reported they could not relist, and were receiving error messages.

On 28 Sep 2003 at 05:58:45 PT, users navigating the site were suddenly receiving messages that their user ID was incorrect prohibiting them from managing their auction listings or bidding. At 19:44:42 PT, ebaY reported that the bidder tab in search was down. At 19:58:27 PT, ebaY posted that from 19:05 PT until 19:40PT the bidder tab was down on search. At 08:05:39 PT, bidders reported that search was down. The search result page would show the number of items returned, but none of the actual items showed on the page. At 12:41:10 PT, sellers reported they could not get Turbo Lister to work, receiving messages that they were not connected to the net, even though they were. At 14:49:24 PT, sellers reported problems with the combined shipping feature, and all single item invoices did not include the itemized shipping cost. ebaY also had the wrong rates for USPS first class. At 16:28:47 PT, users reported the chat boards were returning messages saying, "569 No Data This Web page could not be opened with the specified browser request. Please try again later." At 16:40:00 PT, a seller reported that they had no sales for over 12 hours; the longest gap they had ever had previously was 6 hours, other than during outages. At 16:56:26 PT, other users reported the site very hard to navigate, with error messages across the site.

On 29 Sep 2003 at 0:41:34 PT, buyers reported being constantly diverted to the imagine and win page, being prevented from viewing and bidding on items. At 11:56:38 PT, ebaY posted that the combined payments feature was not working, so had been taken off line, until further notice. Buyers trying to pay for items via an invoice generated by the combined payments feature would return error messages. At 17:51:02 PT, users reported the site running very slowly with script errors on search. At 18:23:04 PT, sellers kept getting repeated messages to update their Turbo Lister, even though they had already done so. At 18:58:34 PT, users reported receiving error messages across the site. At 19:23:00 PT, ebaY posted that they had fixed the problems with combined payments and that it was back online. At 19:53:47 PT, buyers reported that their payments made with the combined payments feature and PayPal were not showing as paid on My ebaY.

On 30 Sep 2003 at 03:00:25 PT, users reported they could not access My ebaY. At 10:59:50 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister was not working. At 11:01:37 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister was causing sellers computers to crash. At 20:08:53 PT, established users reported having problems logging in to ebaY, getting page not available messages and very slow response times. At 21:26:03 PT, buyers reported search not working. Though they could get a search results page with items showing, when clicking on an item the listing page would not open. At 22:54:45 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister was causing their computers to crash.
