On 1 Jul 03 ebaY posted at 01:12:48 PT that their one time payment system was down from 12:23 PT to 13:08 PT. At 02:02:19 PT sellers trying to revise items could not, and instead received a message trying to force a download. Refusing the download caused all the information in the auction to be lost. At 04:13:49 PT users trying to leave feedback reported getting a message that, "your comment for item xxxxx could not be added since this is not a valid transaction for you", despite the fact that the transaction was valid. The feedback system was working again at 04:52:45 PT. At 05:54:11 PT, users trying to navigate within ebaY kept getting redirects to pages they had no interest in. It would take multiple attempts to get to the desired page. At 09:50:10 PT sellers reported that relist was down. When clicking on save changes the seller would get a message that "this page can not be displayed". At 09:21:28 PT ebaY reported that the feedback system was down. At 17:34:42 PT ebaY Germany users posted that in addition to the UK site , the ebaY DE site had also received a substantial fee increase. At 19:14:48 PT sellers continued to report that relist was not working. At 23:00:40 PT ebaY posted that they would take the help search system down from 23:00 to 00:30 PT.

On 2 Jul 03 at 05:12:04 PT users reported that duplicate feedbacks were showing up on their feedback pages. At 07:37:05 PT buyers trying to place bids received a message saying, "This function is currently unavailable We apologize that you are not able to access this feature at the present time." At 10:11:27 PT sellers continued to report that relist was down for the third day. At 12:01:22 PT ebaY posted that the ebaY store indexing was down between 18:40 PT on 24 June to 22:00 PT on 1 Jul. As a result, items listed by store sellers in some ebaY categories were not indexed into store search and were not available in ebaY stores. Auction items and Fixed Price items were still available through ebaY's regular search. ebaY said that sellers whose stores were affected would get an email from ebaY with the details about the credits they will be issued. At 17:59:39 PT, users with Zone Alarm were having problems using ebaY. these problems increase as ebaY integrates more and more spyware into the functions of their system. At 18:01:06 PT sellers reported that the listing process was down. When selecting a category on the 3rd page, the page would freeze.

On 3 Jul 03 at 04:16:44 PT registered PayPal users were getting messages that they did not have an account with PayPal. At 09:42:18 PT sellers using ebaY merchandising relationship in their ebaY store reported that they were having problems with it no longer functioning. At 15:21:43 PT more sellers reported that the merchandise feature had been down for several days. At 15:50:07 PT sellers reported that ebaY was refunding they are refunding 1/2 of the monthly subscription fee and all listing fees to those sellers affected by the store outage. At 16:06:14 PT, users reported that search was down. At 16:08:48 PT sellers reported that their listings in the pottery category were missing. At 16:38:43 PT, sellers reported they could not relist, receiving "We were unable to process your request" messages. At 16:46:53 PT sellers trying to list received 403 errors. At 17:00:37 PT users trying to download the ebaY spyware/scumware toolbar received error messages. At 17:21:34 PT users reported that ebaY had changed their preference settings to accept spam. Users should all check their settings to make sure ebaY has not changed them. At 17:34:40 PT sellers reported that listings were appearing in their store without having listed them. At 18:09:37 PT users reported corrupted code showing up on several ebaY pages. At 18:38:04 PT users reported problems downloading the ebaY spyware/scumware toolbar. At 19:06:44 PT sellers reported that relist was down and had been since 29 Jun. At 20:41:16 PT sellers reported that the sold/unsold items under My ebaY were staying in the Items I'm Selling section.

On 4 Jul 03 at 17:46:38 PT sellers reported that it was taking over 24 hours for an item to post to their ebaY store.

On 5 Jul 03 at 10:32:06 PT sellers reported that they were not able to sign in to their ebaY account. This has been happening intermittently for several days. At 15:55:33 PT users trying to use the resubmit option were not permitted to resubmit and instead received a message that the item was already listed, forcing the seller to start the listing from the beginning. At 18:56:52 PT ebaY posted on the Turbo Lister Discussion Thread that there was a problem with Turbo Lister. " ... The cause of this error (SYI.BIZ.659) is if you select a description layout *and* Picture Pack, Slideshow, or Supersize. We're currently working on getting this fixed for you. In the meantime, the workaround for this is to not select both a layout and Picture Pack, Slideshow, or Supersize - then your item should upload ok. We apologize for the inconvenience. Regards, Sylvester eBay Product Management".

On 6 Jul 03 at 05:30:41 PT sellers reported they were having listing problems. They received strange dropdown error screens with messages saying "MIE config error, missing s dependency SYI form". The categories were corrupted causing problems selecting main and secondary categories. Auction pages were coming up blank, yielding "information not available" messages. At 19:35:18 PT sellers continued to report listing problems. At 22:17:42 PT, users reported pages hanging yielding 'transferring data from pics.ebay.com' messages. At 22:44:21 PT, buyers reported that using their back button caused page redirects to the search menu.

On 7 Jul 03 at 09:05:38 PT ebaY rolled the new listing item page out across the site. There were a multitude of complaints posted by users, both buyers and sellers, increasing the number of posts to the ebaY boards fourfold. The changes caused third party programs to corrupt and caused page distortions on items posted through third party systems. Shipping was showing up as free on items where the seller did not include amounts in their listing . Sellers could not relist items, with clicking on the relist button returning corrupted characters. At 12:14:03 PT sellers reported that their $19.95 featured items did not list with the charged for features. At 18:05:58 PT sellers reported they could not list items. At 18:27:56 PT users reported that sign in was not working, receiving messages that their user ID was invalid. At 20:46:28 PT users reported their My ebaY page returned "This page cannot be displayed" messages. At 21:29:55 PT users reported that all the ebaY pages were downloading very slowly. At 22:23:09 PT users continued to report problems with My ebaY. Sellers also reported iPix images missing from their good till cancelled listings.

On 8 Jul 03 at 03:44:06 PT store listing images were still not showing up. At 13:00:51 PT, sellers could not revise items. At 13:34:58 PT sellers reported that the revise button was no longer on the item page under the new format. Sellers could not change the quantity and the price. The only option was to cancel the listing and relist it. At 15:04:49 PT, ebaY pages were downloading very slowly. At 18:48:44 PT sellers reported that Turbo Lister was returning messages saying, "Network problems are preventing Turbo-Lister from communicating with eBay." Try again later." At 19:23:46 PT, users reported problems navigating the ebaY site.

On 9 Jul 03 at 0:03:55 PT, users once again noted that they could no longer delete items from My ebaY. Attempting to do so yielded a page is not available message. At 7:43:52 PT, users reported they had to sign in over and over again. This caused buyers to miss bids on items, as their log in would not hold. At 09:15:56 PT users reported that search was down returning messages saying, "502 Connection Failed This Web page could not be opened." At 10:53:10 PT sellers reported that due to the new page, their bulk loader was causing duplicate and triplicate listings on some auctions, and refusing others. Sellers also reported that their gallery pictures were not showing up and could not be fixed by revision. At 12:35:57 PT, completed bidder search was only returning partial results. At 18:36:56 PT sellers reported that they were getting error messages whilst trying to list an auction. At 19:01:56 PT users reported that gallery thumbnails were not showing both on the categories and on the view seller's other items pages.

On 10 Jul 03 at 06:38:39 PT users reported that ebaY was deducting rather than adding positive feedback left. ebaY acknowledged they had a "tool" problem. At 08:12:25 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister would not upload due to network problems. At 19:05:01 PT, users again reported that they were missing feedback again. At 19:10:31 PT, users reported that listing was down again. At 19:32:10 PT, users reported they received messages saying "We were unable to process your request" when trying to access ebaY pages. At 21:20:35 PT, the Buy It Now feature was causing multiple hits, resulting in individual buyers inadvertently ordering multiple items when all they bought was one of the items. At 21:27:10 PT sellers reported that the new format was causing confusion for 50% of their winning bidders, both on shipping and acceptable methods of payment.

On 11 Jul 03 at 04:29:55 PT, sellers reported that Turbo Lister was returning internet connection problems. They also reported problems with TL.EXE and Dataobj.dll errors. TL would also not save seller passwords. At 06:34:07 PT sellers reported they could not list or relist items. At 08:00:23 PT sellers continued to report problems with listing. The price page would not let the seller past the reserve price block, even though the seller was not running a reserve auction. At 09:01:36 PT, seller's reserves were showing up on their new listings, and unrelated seller's items were showing up on My ebaY lists. At 09:06:40 PT sellers reported their listings were not showing up on their sellers list. At 14:16:43 PT, buyers trying to get into auctions were being redirected to the home page, preventing the buyer from bidding. At 16:43:10 PT sellers reported that Turbo Lister caused multiple listing of the same items, though the items in the TL collection only showed the item once. Another in the endless problems with Turbo Lister. At 17:05:04 PT sellers attempting to list kept getting unable to process your request messages. At 18:03:54 PT, sellers reported that relisting was down. At 20:23:23 PT, ebaY posted that sellers attempting to list items with Turbo Lister received a network error. At 20:24:04 PT sellers continued to post that they were getting network errors when trying to upload collections.

On 12 Jul 03 at 05:35:33 PT sellers reported that after two days of attempting to update Turbo Lister they were still being forced to try to download an update. The update button was missing from the page and uninstalling and reinstalling did not solve the problem. At 05:44:20 PT revise was not working with pages loading very slowly and the final submit button yielding page not available messages. At 06:28:21 PT sellers reported they were not able to upload images with ebaY's image service. At 10:58:24 PT buyers reported that they could not sign in to bid. At 11:02:55 PT users reported that they were getting widespread error messages across the site. At 11:43:05 PT, sellers trying to revise items received error messages. At 12:16:31 PT sellers reported very slow page loads whilst trying to list items, receiving messages saying, "Sorry we cannot process your listing at this time". At 12:41:04 PT sellers trying to list continued to receive messages that their listing could not be processed. At 14:37:53 PT The listing problems continued. At 14:50:20 PT sellers reported they were having problem with their ebaY Sellers Assistant program. SAB was returning an Error #3021 message. At 15:50:31 PT the listing problems continued. At 17:42:39 PT users trying to access ebaY received page expired messages. At 18:16:30 PT, sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister. Turbo Lister was requiring a download, but there was no download available. At 19:10:34 PT, ebaY images were not loading preventing buyers from seeing the item listings. At 19:33:57 PT buyers reported that they could not bid on items. At 19:55:55 PT users reported images were not loading. At 20:50:59 PT users reported they were having problems loading the ebaY spyware toolbar whilst using IE 6. At 21:14:21 PT sellers trying to relist received messages saying, "We were unable to process your request."

On 13 Jul 03 at 11:55:00 PT users report that ebaY was very slow with pages timing out before opening. At 16:18:30 PT, a seller reported that their auction was purchased by a buyer who was not a registered user. At 16:42:34 PT users reported having problems by accessing their My ebaY pages.

On 14 Jul 03 at 04:26:50 PT sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister. Sellers could not edit an item or rename a folder. At 05:02:52 PT sellers reported they could not upload their images to ebaY's picture services. At 05:40:35 PT sellers again reported they could not get the Turbo Lister upload and received network error messages whilst trying to use Turbo Lister. At 06:21:36 PT the Turbo Lister problem reports continued. TL would not stop running after exiting the program and required a cntrl alt delete to get it to stop. At 10:58:07 PT sellers reported they could not revise an item. At 13:20:56 PT users reported that sign in was not holding requiring multiple sign ins. At 14:26:24 PT, ebaY US started redirecting users to ebaY Canada. At 17:48:47 PT buyers reported they could not open auction item pages and clicking on an item from a search list redirected to the ebaY home page. Anyone having problems with looking at specific auction items when trying to pull them up. At 20:16:53 PT buyers reported that the bids they placed were not being accepted even though their bid was much higher than the winning bid. At 21:31:56 PT, sellers reported a mistake in the ebaY coding for gallery images causing the image to not show. One of the quotation marks was missing in the code. At 23:34:09 PT, buyers were getting error messages after placing a bid though the bid was accepted.

On 15 Jul 03 at 14:06 PT users trying to post on the ebaY chat boards were redirected to the ebaY home page. At 15:44:47 PT, bidders were not receiving bidding messages. At 15:59:21 PT ebaY bidding history pages were showing the proxy bid of buyers on reserve price items. At 16:24:00 PT users posted that ebaY had noted on their technical board that there were problems with bidders being able to bid during the past 24 hours. At 18:37:39 PT users reported widespread ongoing problems with relisting in ebaY Motors and with ebaY accepting established users passwords.

On 16 Jul 03 at 0:07:58 PT sellers reported that there was no longer an indication that they had relisted an item. The buyer is aware that the item has been relisted, but as a seller, the closed auction continues to show the seller relist message. At 01:09:46 PT bidders reported that every time they tried to bid on an item, they received page cannot be displayed messages. At 03:13:40 PT Netscape users could not use secure sign in. At 05:08:12 PT buyers reported that since the introduction of the new header, they had been unable to reach "favorites" for stored searches. At 07:13:18 PT buyers reported they could not see the BIN page, though could view auctions without a BIN. At 11:29:42 PT buyers reported that the international search feature was not working. At 12:46:29 PT, a user reported they were having problems creating a sellers account, with their credit card not being accepted, though it was a valid and working card. At 13:00:13 PT more users reported the favorite search feature was not working. ebaY went down at 12:35PT until 12:40:40 PT. At 12:45:39 PT users reported that ebaY was back up but was very slow. At 12:47:01 PT, more users reported they could not access any ebaY's pages. At 12:55:51 PT some buyers were able to get in through book marked seller's pages but the site was very slow. Users could not access ebaY through any other pages. At 12:56:57 PT users continued to have access problems receiving host cannot be reached error messages. At 12:58:00 PT, the access problems continued with even the ebaY home page returning error messages. The site came back up at 13:08:32 PT. At 18:48:34 PT, ebaY posted that users were receiving Non-Paying Bidder Popup reminders in error when they did not have outstanding Non-Paying Bidder reports. At 19:14:29 PT users were getting coding page errors and page not found messages when trying to access ebaY. At 19:32:19 PT, buyers reported receiving a "Security Mismatch Error" after bidding. At 20:18:48 PT, users again reported receiving Non-Paying Bidder Popup reminders in error when they did not have outstanding Non-Paying Bidder reports.

On 17 Jul 03 at 07:15:37 PT buyers trying to access auction items received a message saying, "The Search and Listings system is temporarily unavailable. Please try one of the following options: Return in a few minutes and try again. If you know the specific item you're looking for, try searching by item number." At 07:25:23 PT, users reported having to sign in multiple times. At 07:36:28 PT buyers reported that search was down. At 07:38:00 PT users reported receiving overdue listing fees reminders in error when they did had credit balances in their accounts. At 07:45:27 PT users reported both search and listing were down, but multiple refreshes would eventually bring up the page. At 07:45:36 PT buyers trying to access subsequent pages on search results received error messages and could not access them. At 07:52:36 PT ebaY posted that users were receiving error messages when searching for items, and that they were aware of this issue, and working to correct it. At 08:15:26 PT, users continued to report search down, and continued to be down until 9:02:58 PT. ebaY posted at 09:12:42 PT that title search was down from 07:00 PT to 08:30 PT. Since this problem should have triggered automatic refunds ebaY lied and claimed the problem was "intermittent" so they would have an excuse not to pay their contracted refunds. At 08:40:23 PT, more users reported having problems accessing their favorites from My ebaY. At 15:46:45 PT, users reported problems with completed search not returning any results. At 17:45:50 PT sellers reported ongoing listing problems with Turbo Lister and also that they could not relist items.

On 18 Jul 03 at 08:44:35 PT, users trying to access their My ebaY page received messages saying no such user. At 09:21:54 PT, users continued to report problems with accessing their favorites from My ebaY, and continued to do so through 15:55:26 PT. The link between My ebaY and favorite searches yielded a blank page. At 17:41:33 PT sellers reported they could not change the price on items they were trying to relist. They could also not use list a similar item feature, as the listing would not go through forcing them to start all over again from the beginning of the listing.

On 19 Jul 03 Complaints about new page continued, but overall the site was stable.

On 20 Jul 03 at 09:27:20 PT sellers reported they could not add images to their listings though ebaY's image service. At 09:31:06 PT users reported that sign in was not holding, forcing repeated sign ins across the site. At 12:09:13 PT users of the ebaY spyware toolbar reported getting messages that, "We are sorry. eBay Toolbar cannot currently contact eBay. Please make sure your Internet connection is OK and try again" This prevented buyers from getting access to their bid and watch links. At 12:27:32 PT, users were getting red X's instead of graphics on all the links on the top of ebaY's pages. At 15:52:53 PT, users trying to access seller's pages and My ebaY received internal error messages. At 16:36:40 PT, users were receiving Non-Paying Bidder Popup reminders in error when they did not have outstanding Non-Paying Bidder reports. At 18:37:57 PT a seller reported that they were finding ebaY extremely slow to navigate, and they were having problems with the listing process all week. Every other page would come up "data missing" and an all white page with instructions to reload , which would work. The only page that did not require a reload was the last page and the submit button worked, but would return a data missing message. At 20:13:38 PT, more users reported sign in problems. At 20:21:22 PT established users were being told their passwords were invalid, then on trying to log in again would get a security number which would work sometimes and not others. At 20:43:40 PT buyers reported that ebaY images were not loading on item pages.

On 21 Jul 03 at 13:29:23 PT users reported they were not receiving bid notifications from ebaY nor emails from the ebaY email system or PayPal notices. At 18:21:12 PT sellers reported they could not upload their images because the place to select what images to upload was missing. At 19:47:53 PT users reported that search was down, returning unable to process your request messages. At 22:36:43 PT search was working again but was very slowly.

On 22 Jul 03 at 07:17:24 PT sellers reported listing was very slow. They also reported that list a like item was not working. At 09:51:03 PT, bidders reported pages across ebaY loading very slowly, so that they were giving up searching for items. At 10:13:49 PT buyers searching the toy category received messages saying, "We were unable to process your request." At 10:54:40 PT a seller reported that ebaY notified them that ebaY had not charged them for Seller's Assistant Basic from March through July so they would charge the entire fee for the missed months, on the current months bill. At 10:54:55 PT, buyers reported that search was returning results that said, "We were unable to process your request. " At 15:41:51 PT users reported that they were having problems navigating on ebaY with pages timing out, returning error messages, or crashing their browser. At 16:40:19 PT users of the ebaY spyware toolbar reported they could not download it, getting error messages when they try. At 17:05:52 PT ebaY search was redirecting US users to ebaY Canada. This continued through 21:21:33 PT. At 17:15:40 PT users reported more spyware toolbar problems, this time the toolbar returning page not found error messages whilst trying to view watching or bidding items. At 17:34:09 PT, users reported page loads very slow, often timing out before opening. At 18:22:39 PT, the redirect to Canada problems continued with all links to ebaY US redirecting to ebaY CA. At 20:05:55 PT, users received error messages whilst trying to search. At 21:21:33 PT users continued to report they were being redirected to ebaY CA.

On 23 Jul 03 at 0:23:44 PT users trying to leave feedback received data missing messages. Users also received messages that the transactions were not related to the person leaving feedback, though they were. At 14:22:28 PT ebaY spyware toolbar users were receiving page could not be displayed messages when trying to use the toolbar drop down menus.

On 24 Jul 03 at 04:30:24 PT, users trying to access ebaY pages were getting redirected to unexpected pages. At 17:06:56 PT, buyers reported problems loading ebaY Motors item listing pages, with the page only loading half way and crashing their browser.

On 25 Jul 03 at 09:49:15 PT sellers, trying to send emails to their buyers through the ebaY system, caused their browser to crash when clicking on the buyers email address. At 11:29:31 PT sellers reported their gallery images were not showing up on their relists. At 13:16:04 PT users of the ebaY spyware toolbar could not get it to work to pull up their My ebaY page. At 15:11:51 PT users reported that they were not able to sign in to ebaY to bid on items or list. At 16:07:46 PT, sellers reported that they were having problems listing, particularly with STEP3 (pictures & details) and STEP4 (payment methods, shipping). These steps caused many problems, not permitting the listing to proceed or failing to carry information forward to the next step. At 16:33:20 PT sellers reported that many items were not showing up in search, though they had been indexed previously. Sellers across the site were finding that items closing shortly had disappeared from the search results. In addition to items not showing in search, images were not showing, and items buyers were bidding on were disappearing. At 17:08:48 PT, users reported they were having problems navigating the site, with page redirects and subsequent pages of search results not opening. At 21:05:27 PT, more users reported that search was not working, with search returning a number of items found but not displaying any of the items on the search result page. At 21:29:34 PT users reported that the ebaY spyware toolbar was not working.

On 26 Jul 03 at 05:20:18 PT users reported that search was not working. At 06:01:46 PT, sellers reported that those using Turbo Lister were being overcharged on listing fees. At 11:03:45 PT, users reported that search was showing coding in place of text.

On 27 Jul 03 at 14:02:26 PT, a user who downloaded the ebaY spyware toolbar reported that corrupted their Symantec Internet Security, changing the register in a way that prevented them from using either Norton anti-virus, nor the Internet Security.

On 28 Jul 03 at 04:51:42 PT, a seller reported that one of the bids/bidders had disappeared from the auction with no bid retraction, or any other sign of the missing bidder. At 5:49:02 PT, users were being redirected to the ebaY home page when trying to access My ebaY. At 11:08:09 PT users reported that ebaY search was down. At 19:05:44 PT sellers trying to upload items with Turbo Lister received network error problems preventing the upload. At 19:42:58 PT, more sellers reported that Turbo Lister was not working, preventing uploads. At 21:52:13 PT users were having problems with My ebaY, and were unable to access their all and favorites tabs. The bidding/watching page would not allow items to be deleted. At 23:38:41 PT users reported that ebaY pages were loading very slowly.

On 29 Jul 03 at 06:53:57 PT, sellers received multiple end of auction notices on the same item all with incorrect information as to bids and ending price. At 08:24:18 PT, users were having trouble with secure log in. At 16:31:35 PT, users reported they could not sign in, pages were loading slowly, and Turbo Lister was not working. Users reported that other users were using their ID to bid with and had changed their password, and over time, several other users reported this same problem. At 17:03:38 PT sellers reported the sell your item form was not working, preventing listing. Hi again-- I am trying to show my daughter how to list. At 18:45:29 PT, more users reported their ID being used by others. At 20:06:04 PT, users reported that images were not downloading. At 21:30 PT, users reported they were being redirected when trying to click on book marked seller's pages. At 21:15:48 PT, users reported ebaY pages downloading very slowly. At 21:35:33 PT, users reported they could not view a description on any items, only images.

On 30 Jul 03 at 08:40:49 PT, sellers reported that there was an error in the set up. While loading up defaults, one category is "Payment instructions". If you used the maximum allowed characters the items would not load and were kicked back with error notices. At 09:03:34 PT, users continued to report slow loading pages, and the SYI 2.0 pages not working. At 10:14:55 PT, buyers searching for items received messages saying. " The page cannot be found" while trying to bring up auction pages. At 10:25:31 PT, users reported they could get to auction listing pages, but only after multiple tries. At 11:03:57 PT, users reporting it taking multiple tries to log in to ebaY, receiving error messages. At 17:04:57 PT, users reported widespread outages with only the home page coming up. At 19:17:54 PT, more buyers reported they could not view auctions. At 19:19:20 PT buyers continued to report no access to auction listings. The SYI2.0 page was also not working. At 19:20:13 PT, there were more reports of no access to auction item pages, and My ebaY was also reported down. At 19:22:53 PT, users trying to access ebaY pages received, "Network Error Unable to request URL from host cgi.ebay.com:80" and "Operation timed out" messages. At 19:25:47 PT buyers continued to not be able to bid. At 19:31:18 PT ebaY posted that buyers could not view items or place bids, and that ebaY was aware of this and working to correct it. At 20:10:13 PT, users reported cgi 5 and 6 down, search down and bidding inaccessible. At 20:34:13 PT, auctions were still not accessible. ebaY posted at 20:44:51 PT that from 19:15 PT to 20:08 PT, ebaY was down for viewing items or placing bids. Users reported ebaY back at 23:02:46 PT. At 23:11:47 PT PayPal users reported problems logging in, with PayPal not accepting their password.

On 31 Jul 03 at 11:36:45 PT, users reported that search was down. When doing a search after the page comes up with the list of auctions for the item you are searching the page is not clickable. No auction can be viewed and it crashes the computer. At 11:49:28 PT, more users complained of the same search problem. At 15:55:31 PT users reported the ebaY site was very slow.
