On 1 Jan 2003 at 07:57:50 PT users reported the ebaY toolbar links were not working. At 12:31:42 PT sellers reported their gallery pics were not showing on many of their auctions. At 12:35:19 PT Turbo Lister was again trying to update unsuccessfully. At 12:38:50 PT a seller reported that ebaY had corrupted the image link for gallery images on all their auctions, so they needed to resubmit the links. At 13:23 PT users reported that the seller lists were gone or downloading very slowly. At 17:13:50 PT search was working intermittently, needing several refreshes before it would work. At 17:40:04 PT users reported the PayPal site was down.

On 2 Jan at 10:28:06 PT, users reported the ebaY toolbar was still not working. The site went down at 12:20:22 PT with many problems reported across the site for many hours. At 12:29:36 PT users reported cgi 1, cgi 6 and cgi3 failing, yielding not available and reset messages. At 12:32:16 PT seller's lists were gone, incorrectly returning "This seller is not currently offering any items for sale." At 12:32:32 PT cgi 3 continued intermittent preventing sign in. At 12:34:45 PT, the cgi servers across the site were not available. At 12:35:36 PT sellers reported that cgi 5 was down, preventing listing on the site. At 12:38:20 PT, users trying to access the site they received messages that, "Input Error There was an error in your input. Please go back and ensure that all fields are properly filled in. ---------The page cannot be displayed The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings. ---------- This function is currently unavailable We apologize that you are not able to access this feature at the present time. Our Technical Support Team has been notified and we are working on resolving this difficulty as quickly as possible. Please visit the eBay Announcements Board for updates on recent and upcoming changes, major system issues, and other important eBay news" Unfortunately there were no comments about the outages on the ebaY announcement board. At 12:39:39 PT trying to list returned messages that, "We were unable to process your request. We are sorry, but we were unable to process your request. Please check the eBay Announcement Board for updates on recent and upcoming changes, major system issues, and other important eBay news." Still no ebaY posts on the SAB. At 12:42:13 PT buyers could not open any auctions on ebaY US or any of the ebaY international sites. At 12:43:27 PT, cgi 3 remained down and users could not sign in. Auctions were still returning not available messages. At 12:52:02 PT buyers reported they were still not able to bid. At 12:53:23 PT ebaY finally acknowledged they were having site problems when maeve@ebay.com posted, "Hi everyone, I just wanted to let all of you know that we are aware of the site issues and are working to resolve them as quickly as possible. I apologize for the inconvenience. Maeve" At 12:59:28 PT users could still not sign in . The site came back up for a few moments at 13:08:34 PT then went back down again. At 13:10:08 PT ebaY posted on the SAB that, "*** Our Site Is Temporarily Unavailable ** We are sorry, but our site is temporarily unavailable. We are working to bring the system back up as quickly as possible. Please check the Announcement Board at http://pages.ebay.com/community/index.html for updates. We will keep you posted as work progresses. We apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your patience. Regards, eBay" At 13:10:48 PT buyers could still not bid. The site came back up at 13:11:05 PT and went back down again at 13:11:45 PT. At 13:12:58 PT cgi6 came back up intermittently allowing access to seller lists. At 13:14:43 PT ebaY posted that My ebaY was down. At 13:16:00 PT parts of ebaY were again available to some users. My ebaY was still down. At 13:18:18 PT keyword search was intermittently up, but buyers could still not bid. My ebaY was down until 13:23:24 PT, but was still not showing sellers auctions. Items on My ebaY appeared and disappeared. At 13:46:18 PT sellers reported that items were showing as closing three hours prematurely. At 13:50:24 PT ebaY posted that, " ***System Status*** Between 12:26 PST and 13:18 PST, we experienced issues across many areas of the eBay site." The ability to bid for items, list items and access My eBay were all affected during this period. Not all systems were unavailable at all times during this period. The affected systems have been restored and all site functions are once again available. We are sorry for the lateness of the communication of this issue, and apologize for the inconvenience this has caused." Another classic ebaY posting. At 14:08:51 PT sellers continued to report their auctions were not showing up in My ebaY. At 14:52:42 PT revised items were not appearing in My ebaY. At 15:39:15 PT cgi 6, seller's list, went down again and came back up at 16:14 PT. The chat boards went down at 19:43:18 PT and most ebaY pages crashed, and were back up at 19:47:19 PT. Users were still having trouble with sign in, and the feedback system was not working. Users continued to report problems with My ebaY, sign in and other intermittent issues through 21:52:14 PT.

On 3 Jan ebaY took the system down for maintenance from approx 01:00 PT to 02:57:11 PT. At 07:01:51 PT sellers reported Mister Lister was down. At 07:29:36 PT users reported the chat boards were loading very slowly and timing out. At 07:49:25 PT sellers again reported the ongoing problem with Turbo Lister. Turbo Lister requires an update, but then returns network connection errors, or disappears completely, never accessing or completing the download. At 08:18:12 PT sellers noted that they were not receiving end of auction notices, and the lists on My ebaY were showing sold auctions as unsold. At 13:40:21 PT sellers reported the new ebaY auction manager program was not working, and sellers could not view their archived listings. At 16:04:07 PT more sellers reported their archived listings were missing from auction manager. At 18:46:45 PT buyers reported auctions were ending earlier than scheduled due to an ebaY glitch.

On 4 Jan there was an announcement on the PayPal site that ebaY took the PayPal site down for maintenance from 12:00 AM to 4:30 AM PT. ebaY was stable throughout the day.

On 5 Jan at 06:37:44 PT sellers reported they were receiving end of auction notices 24 to 48 hours after the auction ends. Gallery images were also not indexed and were not showing up, and featured items were not appearing as featured. At 06:43:37 PT the site went through several minutes of inaccessibility but stabilized. At 08:23:57 PT a period of errors showed up again, but once again stabilized. At 12:22:23 PT the site once again had problems with very slow page loads, and site access problems. At 12:33:48 PT users reported they could see the text on aucitons, but not images. At 12:37:57 PT sellers reported ebaY emails, such as end of auctions and bid notices ere very slow, delayed by many hours. At 12:40:24 PT buyers could not view auctions. At 13:10:37 PT seller search and seller's lists stopped working. At 13:38:53 PT sellers continued to report intermittent problems with opening auctions, returned as 'no longer available'. The site went down from 21:02:13 PT to 21:07:37 PT. At 21:08:27 PT users reported problems with cgi 3 preventing log in, and with intermitted page unavailable messages across the site. At 21:10:47 PT users received page cannot be displayed messages. At 22:50:45 PT crashed for a few minutes coming back at 22:51:49 PT.

On 6 Jan at 00:19:15 PT buyers complained that they have been having ongoing problems with search. Searches did not return any result or would be very slow. At 08:54:33 PT a seller reported that ebaY had double charged their credit card. Sellers need to check their accounts. At 12:21:24 PT users reported receiving invalid board messages whilst trying to access the chat boards.

On 7 Jan Sellers posted complaints throughout the day about no longer being able to use SYI 1.0. At 08:09:16 PT users queried why search results pages were no longer lined up under their column headings. This was not a problem under text only, but occurs under the default view items with pictures results. After filling out the vehicle info page, trying to go to the next page yielded a blank page. At 21:18:27 PT, users reported that the ebaY auction counters supplied by Andale were not working.

On 8 Jan at 09:03:48 PT sellers reported that user ID's added during the last month had disappeared from their blocked bidder list. At 11:51:00 PT users reported getting http 400 errors almost everyplace on ebaY. At 20:09:20 PT, users reported the site very slow.

On 9 Jan at 11:23:05 PT users reported PayPal was down. At 17:55:54 PT sellers were not able to view their winning bidder email addresses on their seller's list using the view high bidders email address function. Attempting access resulted in a message saying that only the seller could view them. At 19:17:43 PT ebaY posted that the feedback system was down from 16:20 PT to 18:46 PT. At 23:18:58 PT ebaY announced that some ebaY pages, including the ebaY home page, were down intermittently from 22:46 PT to 23:04 PT.

On 10 Jan at 06:42:20 PT buyers reported search was not working properly, returning zero results on commonly available items. At 06:57:13 PT more users reported search not working. At 07:46:05 PT "newly listed" search was down. At 08:04:30 PT more buyers reported search broken. At 08:04:46 PT, users reported that the passport sign in was not working preventing buyers from bidding. At 09:59:59 PT buyers reported problems with their watch list. Trying to open an item in a new window resulted in an "invalid item" message but opened in a new tab. At 10:03:01 PT buyers reported that title search was working but title/description search was very slow and yielding error messages. At 10:42:20 PT sellers reported the SYI2.0 cookie was not holding requiring continual log in. At 11:47:33 PT Turbo Lister's latest download, caused the program to not launch from desktop icon or thru "start". At 13:34:21 PT users reported that cgi 2 was down making the feedback system inaccessible. At 13:45:01 PT sellers reported Turbo Lister kept trying to update unsuccessfully. At 17:35:49 PT users reported cgi 2 still not working disabling the feedback system. At 19:10:36 PT users reported problems accessing the chat boards through ebaY US and had to come in through ebaY Canada. The site went down from 19:29:31 PT to 19:40:00 PT. At 20:21:31 PT users reported they could view the chat boards and view auctions on ebaY Motors, but not get anywhere else on ebaY.Com or Half.Com. These problems lasted until 20:41:28 PT.

On 11 Jan at 08:25:10 PT ebaY posted that sellers were having trouble accessing their ebaY accounts or making a one time credit card payment from 07:37 PT to 08:05 PT. At 08:35:35 PT buyers reported problems with search in that it was very slow responding ending in site not found error 404 errors. At 08:36:59 PT a user reported not be able to sign up to sell on ebaY. Attempts to sign up returned function unavailable messages. At 10:39:55 PT a buyer reported having old purchases showing up on their bidding/watching page. There were purchases from September showing as a Buy It Now dated 6 Jan 03. At 11:58:48 PT wireless users reported not being able to search or sign in on ebaY, getting a message saying, "Requested wireless site is currently experiencing technical difficulties. Please try again later." At 18:54:14 PT ebaY posted that the feedback system was down from 17:19 PT to 18:38 PT. At 20:02:59 PT sellers noted that SYI2.0 was not working not allowing sellers past the third page of the submission form. There was no continue button on the page and the back button removed all the information already submitted.

On 12 Jan at 05:12:38 PT users reported problems with My ebaY. Users also noted that search had not updated for 22 hours. At 10:09:44 PT users reported that "ask seller a question" was not working. At 14:29:14 PT users reported the end of auction emails were not being received. At 14:43:13 PT buyers reported that clicking on aucitons yielded "invalid item" messages. At 17:31:39 PT search was not returning full results with subsequent pages of search results showing no items. At 18:12:26 PT sellers reported that SYI2.0 was not working, and returned "This page has expired" messages when using the back button. At 18:23:48 PT sellers reported that My ebaY was showing sold items in the unsold section. At 19:41:04 PT users reported that Turbo Lister was not working getting stuck on an update that would never complete.

On 13 Jan at 05:37:39 PT search was not working properly, with many searches returning "Invalid Items". At 05:54:54 PT ebaY was again adding a _T.JPG to the end of gallery URLs when submitting Mister Lister collections. This required sellers to revise all their auctions to fix the gallery images. At 07:41:50 PT sellers reported illegal operation messages when using Turbo Lister. At 20:54:39 PT the feedback forum was not working. At 21:20:47 PT users reported that the free ebaY counters provided by Andale were down.

On 14 Jan at 08:42:53 PT users reported receiving 502 errors when trying to access ebaY pages. At 08:43:23 PT users received page can't be displayed messages and the one time payments page was not working returning 405 error messages. At 13:55:14 PT users reported widespread page can't be displayed messages. The site crashed at 13:55:26 PT and was down until 14:11:26 PT. Search and the chat boards were down. At 17:00 PT sellers reported that ebaY coding changes had disabled many third party programs. The site went down again briefly from 20:00:48 PT to 20:01:27 PT.

On 15 Jan at 04:24:12 PT users reported cgi3 very slow causing problems with sign in and posting on the chat boards. At 10:06:27 PT sellers reported that SYI 2.0 review page was posting "Your item will be listed on eBay and the above fees will be charged." twice. At 11:38:14 PT sellers reported problems accessing My ebaY. Powerseller email support was also not working. In addition sellers reported problems with sign in. At 16:11:17 PT sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister returning illegal operation error messages. At 17:26:04 PT SYI2.0 would not allow sellers to relist items. At 18:07:49 PT buyers reported they were getting error messages whilst trying to bid. At 18:35:25 PT users reported problems with the ask seller a question feature.

On 16 Jan at 07:50:35 PT sign in was not working, continually requiring users to sign in again and again. At 11:15:12 PT SYI 2.0 was still showing duplicate messages on the review page. The site was down from 13:09:05 PT to 13:22:49 PT with widespread problems across the site. At 16:31:30 PT ebaY crashed again lasting until 16:35:36 PT. Users could access the site through ebaY Canada but not through the US site. At 16:36:39 PT users received connection closed by remote server messages. The site came back up at 16:38:52 PT. At 17:44:44 PT users trying to access the site receiving messages that, "This function is currently unavailable We apologize that you are not able to access this feature at the present time. Our Technical Support Team has been notified and we are working on resolving this difficulty as quickly as possible. Please visit the eBay Announcements Board for updates on recent and upcoming changes, major system issues, and other important eBay news." At 18:03:24 PT users reported the Andale counters down. At 18:04:14 PT the sellers lists disappeared and seller search yielded "This seller is not currently offering any items for sale." At 18:05:20 PT users continued to report their listed items had disappeared. At 18:05:54 PT users reported auction listings unavailable across the site. At 18:08:26 PT buyers bid histories disappeared. At 18:11:25 PT only store listings were showing on the site. At 18:17:51 PT seller search was still down. Some seller searches came back at 18:20:54 PT, but many were still missing. At 18:23:40 PT ebaY posted that the system was down from 18:00 PT to 18:20 PT, including Seller Search, the ability to view seller's other items, and certain tabs in My ebaY. Users reported site back at 18:39:05 PT. ebaY took the PayPal site down for maintenance from 23:00 PT for several hours disabling all PayPal functions.

On 17 Jan ebaY took their site down for maintenance approx 23:14:49 PT to 03:27:36 PT. ebaY and ebaY payments were both down as was PayPal and the ebaY discussion boards. The discussion boards were down from approx 01:00 PT to 05:00 PT and included all the boards on the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia sites in addition to the US site. At 05:58:09 PT users reported getting two opposite responses in the "Quick Opinion Service". The first one said the item was probably "Likely Not Genuine" and the second that the item was "Likely Genuine". these responses were withing a few minutes of wach other. At 05:59:32 PT users reported the ebaY search engine not working only allowing two searches to come up. At 06:12:04 PT users reported being redirected to ebaY AOL pages. The pages were filled with AOL presents ebaY messages. At 06:38:51 PT sellers reported they could not edit their store items, receiving error messages when attempting to do so. At 08:55:35 PT users reported http 400 errors. At 08:56:13 PT users reported getting page cannot be displayed errors. At 19:11:58 PT users reported the web site throwing 404 error messages. At 22:08:50 PT users reported items were not showing as sold in My ebaY

On 18 Jan at 06:42:15 PT sellers reported that their gallery photos has been replaced by the "click here to see picture" box on the gallery thumb nail images. At 08:35:38 PT cgi 2 crashed preventing access to the feedback system. At 10:10:26 PT sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister since the last update. They kept receiving "failed to submit image" errors preventing listing. At 10:26:24 PT more Turbo Lister error messages were reported because ebaY pictures services were down. At 18:27:10 PT users reported that the host cgi.ebay was not functioning making it difficult to search or bid on the site. At 18:27:56 PT users reported search down. At 18:28:11 PT the site crashed with reports of search down, auction pages inaccessible, and slow page downloads across the site. At 18:38:56 PT sellers noted that they could not send PayPal invoices after an auction has closed, receiving messages that, "The auction has not closed. Please enter a valid listing number and try again". At 18:56:15 PT users continued to report auction pages down preventing viewing or bidding an item. At 19:00:49 PT, in a typical ebaY lie, ebaY posted that auction page access was slow. At 19:10:26 PT ebaY again posted that access to auction listings was very slow. The site was back up at 19:30:35 PT. At 19:56:01 PT ebaY posted that "Members may have experienced slow download times when accessing item pages from 18:17 PST to 19:03 PST." At 21:16:32 PT users reported problems with search not working.

On 19 Jan at 03:01:10 PT sellers reported problems with listing store items through Turbo Lister. Sellers were only given the option of accepting credit cards through a merchant account, or they were not able to list the item. At 13:01:53 PT PayPal was given buyers a message that the intem was invalid when they tried to pay for items. The way to work around the glitch was to select "other" instead of "auction-goods. At 19:03:24 PT sellers reported their gallery images were not showing on their auctions. At 21:01:19 PT SYI2.0 was down. At 21:38:54 PT users received server resets whilst trying to access pages on ebaY. At 21:58:08 PT more sellers reported gallery pics not showing. At 22:38:37 PT sellers reported My ebaY not correctly reflecting their correct auction status.

On 20 Jan at 04:19:32 PT users reported that search had not been indexed for over 24 hours, not since 19 Jan at 03:33 PT. At 04:21:58 PT posting on the chat boards returned 'page cannot be displayed' messages. At 10:54:54 PT ebaY posted that there were problems with search. ebaY said that "Some Title and Description searches are showing results that appear to be behind by several hours. Items that were indexed in that time are appearing in Search, but may not be available in the affected Search results. The issue does not affect every Search result. We are working to resolve this issue, but due to the nature of Search, this may take several hours." At 11:07:54 PT users reported they could not view ebaY iPix picture services images. At 13:20:04 PT ebaY reported that title search was behind by several hours (in fact 34 hours behind). ebaY said, "The items affected were indexed in Search, and some searches during this period would have returned updated results." Another ebaY prevarication. At 19:04:50 PT users continued to report problems with search.

On 21 Jan the ebaY site was stable.

On 22 Jan at 05:49:59 PT sellers posted that they were getting this message whilst trying to use Turbo Lister, "Network problems are preventing Turbo Lister from communicating with eBay. Please check and make sure you are connected to the internet. If you are connected to the internet and receive this message, please try again later" At 09:28:53 PT users reported problems with the ebaY spyware toolbar. The My ebaY button was not working. At 11:51:03 PT users reported page can't be displayed messages whilst trying to access ebaY. At 17:19:18 PT sellers reported problems with the upgraded ebaY's sellers assistant pro (SAP) 2.4 and receiving error #429 pertaining to status grid not loading.

On 23 Jan at 00:17:36 PT sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister. The update would not download and neither did completely removing the program and reloading it. At 00:36:39 PT sellers continued to report problems with SAP 2.4. At 06:20:50 PT buyers looking at aucitons saw this message, " Note: This item has a picture but eBay Picture Services are temporarily unavailable. Please read eBay System Status Announcements Board for more information." At 06:54:13 PT more sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister, receiving invalid password messages on sign in. At 08:14:41 PT ebaY posted that ebaY iPix picture services were down from 06:30 PT to 07:55 PT. At 09:05:52 PT sellers reported that winning bidder zip codes were not showing on the auction page as they are supposed to. At 10:28:01 PT more sellers reported problems with Turbo Lister. They received messages that, "Network problems are preventing Turbo Lister from communicating with eBay. Please check to make sure you are connected to the Internet. If you are connected to the Internet and continue to receive this message, please try again later. " At 10:49:42 PT sellers reported they could not get the subcategories to work on SYI2.0 pages whilst trying to list. None of the usual workarounds were of any help and the page would not accept the subcategory number either. At 16:13:23 PT ebaY posted that description search was down from 15:41 PT to 16:02 PT. At 16:15:34 PT users continued to report the problem with subcategories on SYI2.0.

On 24 Jan at 03:30:18 PT ebaY posted that auction items were unavailable for viewing or bidding between 03:00 PT and 03:18 PT. ebaY said the issue affected ebaY Sports and Books. At 09:23:07 PT buyers reported the men's clothing listings were unavailable returning "HTTP 404 file not found" messages. At 09:45:06 PT sellers reported more problems with Turbo Lister returning illegal operations every 7-9 listings. This required the program to be closed and rebooted. The program was showing a black screen on reboot, pressing a key would show the program but the program would be frozen requiring a computer reboot. At 10:08:52 PT ebaY posted that ebaY Stores inventory items listed and new Stores created since 03:00 PT were not appearing in Stores search. ebaY said this would take several hours to fix. At 11:00:22 PT users trying to access the chat boards received invalid board messages. This was the start of a problem lasting several days. At 11:32:48 PT maeve@ebay.com acknowledged the board problems saying, ".... We are aware of the issues with the Chat boards and working to resolve them. If you receive the error message please try refreshing your screen. My apologies. Maeve". The board posting problems continued throughout the day

On 25 Jan 06:51:21 PT users reported problems witht he ebaY spyware toolbar. The update caused the program to crash. When uninstalled and reinstalled the program would not download returning error on page messages. At 07:03:19 PT users continued to report the invalid board problems which continued through the day for the second day running.

On 26 Jan at 06:04:21 PT users reported the invalid board messages for the third day. At 07:33:53 PT sellers again reported problems with the Turbo Lister update not loading. At 07:49:41 PT sellers also reported more problems with the new version of SAP. It would not allow auctions to refresh. At 09:45:35 PT the ebaY site crashed and came back at 09:51:46 PT. At 09:59:32 PT users trying to access the site received internal error messages. At 10:00:02 PT cgi 3 went down causing board posting and sign in problems. My ebaY was also not working. The functions were restored at 10:01:08 PT. At 10:33:29 PT ebaY posted that "Some members are experiencing issues in accessing certain eBay functions." (ebaY code for "the site is down"). At 10:37:33 PT the site went down again with function unavailable messages at 10:42:22 PT and PayPal reported down at 10:45:14 PT. At 10:48:51 PT Turbo Lister was giving network error messages. At 10:51:55 PT users received. "This function is currently unavailable" messages in trying to access functions across the site. At 10:53:07 PT more reports came in of functions across the site crashed. At 10:59:01 PT SYI2.0 went down and sellers lists were inaccessible. At 11:00:37 PT search was down, My ebaY was down, sellers lists were down, and log in was down. At 11:07:08 PT bidding and searching were still not working yielding, "We’re sorry, but this function is currently unavailable" messages. At 11:08:49 PT sellers lists were returning messages that, "This seller is not currently offering any items for sale." ebaY posted that "Members are experiencing intermittent difficulty across the eBay site. Functions that could be affected are Bidder Search, Seller Search, View Seller's Other Items, and sections of My eBay. In addition, some members may have difficulty signing in to eBay. Third parties may also be experiencing difficulty connecting to eBay through the eBay API." ebaY claimed that the ability to view items, bid and list items with the Sell Your Item form appears to be unaffected, but users reported otherwise. At 11:17:21 PT the API came back up for a short while then went down again. At 11:47:21 PT users continued to report My ebaY down, the chat rooms down or occasionally accessible, and the ebaY email system down. At 12:02:27 PT seller search and sellers lists started to yo yo coming up for a few minutes and going back down again. At 12:08:48 PT the API came back up again. ebaY posted at 12:02:40 PT ebaY reported that "We are currently experiencing technical difficulties which could affect multiple areas of the site. Not all functions will be unavailable at all times, but members may experience difficulty accessing these functions on an intermittent basis. We are working to restore access to all functions as quickly as possible." At 12:36:19 PT cgi 3 was down again. At 12:51:29 PT sellers lists were down. At 13:02:13 PT search was down, My ebaY was not working properly with only partial lists of items showing. At 13:03:28 PT the sellers lists on cgi 6 was down. Buyers reported they could not bid at 13:08:44 PT. At 13:12:22 PT sellers could not list. ebaY posted at 13:12:57 PT that "Members are experiencing intermittent difficulty in accessing certain functions including Seller Search and View Seller's Other Items. Third parties may also be experiencing difficulty connecting to eBay through the eBay API. This may also impact the ability to pay for items using PayPal. " Users reported they could not access PayPal. At 13:47:14 PT seller search remained down. At 13:53:36 PT My favorite searches and sellers disappeared from My ebaY. At 14:07:51 PT ebaY again posted that "Some members may be experiencing intermittent difficulty in accessing certain functions including Seller Search and View Seller's Other Items. Third parties may also be experiencing difficulty connecting to eBay through the eBay API." At 14:36:55 PT sellers again posted that they were having problems with the latest download of SAP. At 15:03:33 PT ebaY announced that "from 09:45 PST to 14:30 PST, some members experienced difficulty accessing multiple eBay functions on an intermittent basis. Those functions most affected included Seller Search and View Seller's Other items, Bidder Search and certain tabs in My eBay. In addition, many third-party providers, including PayPal, would have experienced intermittent difficulty accessing eBay through eBay's API. This would have resulted in difficulty for eBay members using those services. The ability to view items, search for items, bid and list items was available throughout the day, though some members may have experienced very brief difficulties with some of these functions on occasion." As usual ebaY lied about the extent of the outages particularly those areas that would have required ebaY to issue refunds and extend auctions for what was in affect a complete 5 hour outage. At 18:07:17 PT sellers reported they were not getting end of auction notices. At 18:39:13 PT sellers again reported the zip code missing from ended auctions. At 18:46:06 PT revised items were not showing revisions.

On 27 Jan at 06:42:58 PT a buyer with a -1 feedback rating, reported they were stopped from bidding by the unannounced new buyer limits (see report from CES below). At 07:44:39 PT users reported invalid board messages when trying to post on the ebaY chat boards for the fourth day. At 07:51:54 PT some users reported they could not get into PayPal. Other users reported they could get in but the PayPal site was very slow. At 11:45:20 PT Seller Assistant users reported that the new download was preventing them from using the product. Sellers could not get past the final review and submit the listing. At 12:10:54 PT users reported Andale inaccessible. At 17:17:25 PT sellers reported that SYI 2.0 was loading very slowly. At 18:08:14 PT buyers reported that their ask seller a question emails were taking over 5 hours to get to sellers, so the auctions were ending before the buyer could get their question answered. At 20:19:12 PT sellers reported they could not open the third page of items on My ebaY. In order to get there they had to add " &page=3" in the address. At 20:43:50 PT buyers reported their max bid amounts were no longer showing in My ebaY. At 20:59:50 PT a seller reported they could not list items and received messages that "Credit Card Limit is Less than Reserve Price" or "Amount Exceeds Electronic Check Limit", even though the seller did not use PayPal or any other payment options available. No explanation from ebaY was forthcoming. At 23:32:29 PT users reported My ebaY not allowing account holders in, saying their user ID or password was incorrect when it wasn't.

On 28 Jan at 00:07:03 PT Seller Assistant basic users reported they could not select a category on a new store listing. All listings showed up as "other" no matter what was selected. At 07:35:50 PT sellers reported they could not change their category after receiving a bid on an item. At 08:45:33 PT more sellers reported problems with ebaY's SAB and SAP. At 12:18:27 PT sellers could not open My ebaY, receiving messages they were not logged in when they were. At 14:15:14 PT Turbo Lister users could not use TL receiving messages that "An error occured in the secure channel support." At 21:12:32 PT a seller reported some items missing from their seller's list, though the ending time and bids were visible. At 21:29:37 PT, Turbo Lister users again reported it was not working. The items missing from the sellers list reappeared at 21:42:47 PT. At 23:32:07 PT ebaY posted that title search results were behind by several hours. According to ebaY, the items were being indexed, but are not appearing in all search results.

On 29 Jan at 02:50:54 PT buyers reported that their high bid amounts were appearing and disappearing from their My ebaY pages. At 05:45:46 PT the feedback system stopped working preventing users from leaving feedback. At 07:16:37 PT users trying to access their favorites page on My ebaY were redirected to the logon screen. The logon screen would then not accept the users password. At 09:32:18 PT buyers reported they were not receiving theor end of auction notices. At 10:15:47 PT more buyers reported their maximum bid amounts not showing in My ebaY. At 16:04:08 PT sold auctions were not appearing in the sold section using ebaY's selling manager. At 16:30:48 PT the second page of search results did not open, instead redirecting to a category list when next was clicked, or returning a 404 error when the page number was clicked. At 16:53:24 PT buyers continued to report the max bid amount missing from My ebaY. At 16:53:43 PT sellers reported their gallery images not showing, replaced by the "click here to see picture" box. At 16:56:02 PT SAP users reported they could not list getting illegal operation messages. At 16:58:32 PT users reported completed search was not working, and recently ended items returned "invalid item, not available, gone from the data base" messages. At 18:15:08 PT sellers reported getting double emails for all their closed ebaY items. At 19:09:47 PT users continued to report My ebaY problems. At 20:57:12 PT users reported their buyer page on My ebaY was inaccessible. At 21:01:42 PT sellers using Sellers Assistant could not get their photos to show on the preview page.

On 30 Jan ebaY took their site down for maintenance from approx 00:59:29 PT to 03:16:49 PT. At 06:39:53 PT, users reported ebaY very slow. At 07:45:07 PT buyers reported that they could not get to subsequent pages of search results, being redirected to the category home page. At 10:23:06 PT the subsequent page of search results problems continued. At 11:23:59 PT users reported that the ebaY spyware toolbar was not working. At 11:30:57 PT ebaY posted that category search was broken from 10:49 PT to 11:22 PT, in that certain sub-categories were displaying error messages when members attempted to view lists of items within these categories. At 12:49:24 PT ebaY posted that My ebaY was not working and users could not access several areas including the Bidding/Watching tab. ebaY took all their threaded boards down for maintenance at approx 20:00 PT. ebaY planned on changing the search function and adding the ability to preview a post. They were also planning on changing the snitch feature so a new page opened to report a posting violation. Users needed to update their bookmarks. At 23:21:44 PT users reported PayPal was down. At 23:37:29 PT users trying to access Turbo Lister returned messages that network problems were preventing Turbo Lister from communicating with ebaY.

On 31 Jan 05:33:35 PT sellers reported having problems with the "free" Andale counters. At 05:54:51 PT sellers got messages that network problems were preventing Turbo Lister from communicating with ebaY. At 07:11:26 PT problems with the Andale counters continued. At 09:38:54 PT users of ebaY's SAP reported getting 429 error messages followed by a message saying "error with status grid properties". At 10:36:10 PT sellers reported Mister Lister was not working. At 16:59:56 PT users reported they could not change their password, receiving messages that "Due to prolonged inactivity, please re-sign in and try again" even though this was not correct. At 17:10:41 PT the threaded ebaY boards were back.
