1 Mar - eBay suffered intermittent availability problems and reported them
solved at 05:17 PT on 1 Mar, but intermittent problems were talked
about on the OAI chat boards till around 08:00 PT.
3 Apr - At 18:59 PT, eBay reported that there was slowness with parts of the system, including viewing Item pages and Bidding, and that they had resolved it by 20:42. If you feel your auctions were effected by
the 2 hour slowdown, we recommend you request refunds by sending
an email to bill-@e....
5 Apr - eBay appeared to have intermittent slowdowns on the 4th and 5th,
though they did not report any on their announcement board. Several
comments about slowdowns were made on the OAI chat boards
from about 1045 PM PT on the 4th until about 0800 AM PT on the 5th.
If you feel your auctions were effected by slowdowns, we recommend
you request refunds by sending an email to bill-@e....
eBay had problems with their Category listing pages on 5 Apr reported
at 21:58PT. This impacted current, new today, ending today and
going going gone sections. It delayed updates for several hours
after it was reported fixed at 23:28 PT. It did not impact title
search.
6 Apr - Along with other intermittent problems and slow downs over the last week, the eBay fraud prevention and insurance claim filing
system was available only intermittently during the past two days.
As of 17:39 on 6 Apr it was completely unavailable. If you tried
to file a fraud prevention or insurance form and were unable to,
submit your claim when the form is again available. If your auction
ended 60 days before the time the claim form was down (Tuesday,
4 Apr until they notify you that it is back up) you will not be able
to use the online form even after the fraud form becomes available.
Users in this situation need to contact safeh-@e... for
filing instructions.
7 Apr - At 06:59 on 7 Apr the category listing pages for the eBay Canada
site went down. They were reported at 08:53 to be back up at 07:40PT.
Other areas of the site were working properly. At 11:27 PT 7 Apr,
eBay announced that the new version of the eBay Canada site was up.
It can be found at http://www.ca.ebay.com Additional features:
* Local currency capabilities billing for sellers is in Canadian
dollars and users may opt to sell in either Canadian dollars or U.S. dollars.
* New Categories tailored to Canadian traders and collectors are
on eBay Canada. eBay users can also choose to view items listed in
Canada, as well as items that sellers will to ship to Canada.
* eBay Canada and LloydÄ '¾s of London now offer insurance up to
C$300 (Canadian Dollars) on every item sold on eBay Canada. Other
new services include Canadian customs and shipping information.
8 Apr - eBay had problems with the system, which went down at 00:58 PT to 1:07 PT on 8 Apr. The problem was fixed and is being monitored, but this is only one in a week long period of problems and outages. The
recoveries have been swift, hopefully the backup system is doing its
job, and will continue to do so. On the 9th at 07:59 PT, eBay
reported the title and description search was running behind as of 8 Apr
at 14:25 PT. This causes search results to NOT reflect any new items
or changes to items, such as bidding activity or price changes. Title
Search (without description) was current as of 04/09/00 at 06:45:00 PT .
They then had problems with the completed search pages links, fixed
that with a patch, and then corrected the problem. At 07:55 on 10 Apr,
they reported that title and description search was still running
behind, with no new items or changes to items, such as bidding activity
or price changes, after 9 Apr at 16:55 PT available. Updates continue,
but it will take some time for the system to catch up. Title Search
(without description) was current as of 10 Apr at 06:50 PT. Completed
search was also running behind with no updates about items that closed
after April 8, 2000. TAG as always, recommends that if you feel your
auctions were adversely affected by any of these problems, request a
refund by sending an email to bill-@e....
.
12 Apr - eBay had problems for about a half hour with the ability to post credit card information to eBay accounts, and with receiving validation for
information submitted by new sellers. This was reported by eBay at
18:23 PT and reported fixed at 18:53.
13 Apr - eBay crashed at 22:08 PT and back up at 23:03 PT on 13 Apr. If you feel your auctions were impacted send an email to
bill-@e... requesting a refund of your fees.
14 Apr - eBay in their ongoing system glitches, during the last two weeks, is again having problems with search. At 8:12 PT they reported that
description search is running approximately 10 hours behind, so
results do not reflect any new items or changes to items, such as
bidding activity or price changes, after 14Apr at 05:05 PT . When
the new update completes it will reflect results after April 14, 2000
at 19:45 PT. Title Search without description was current as of
15Apr at 07:20 PT. If you feel your auctions were impacted send
an email to bill-@e... requesting a refund of your fees.
15 Apr - eBay in their ongoing system glitches, during the last two weeks,
continues to have search problems. As of 17:10 PT, completed search
is running behind by approximately two days. It is current through
15 April 23:58:24 PT.
18 Apr - eBay continues to have problems with the feedback forum, making it impossible for some users to leave feedback. Feedback problems
have continued to occur intermittently since the changeover to
transaction feedback only, and is just one more in the continuing
intermittent site glitches of all sorts that have occurred for nearly
three weeks.
The eBay Canada site is materially down as of 21:27:45 PT 18 Apr.
This outage prohibits the ability to view Canada Listings pages and
also negatively impacts the part of the system that updates
Canada Listings with new information, such as new items, bids, etc.
This part of the system also updates information to Current, New,
Today, Ending Today and Going, Going, Gone. Canada Listings
information is current as of 13:30 PT, Tuesday, April 18, 2000.
20 Apr - eBay resolved the issues with the Canadian listing update problems at 02:47 PT on the 19th. They then had the same kind of problems
again on the US site starting at 13:26 PT on the 19th. This part of
the system impacts listing information and information in Current,
New Today, Ending Today and Going, Going, Gone Listings.
Listings information was current as of 10:15 PT, Tue 19Apr.
eBay reported they had resolved the problems that caused the delay
in Listings yesterday at approx 14:16 on 20 Apr. Listings information
is current as of 11:25 PT, Thur 20Apr. This is another problem in a
three week stretch of varied intermittent glitches.
Some problems of note and planned solutions are
* Gallery images may take up to 24 hours after listing to appear on
some pages. So the Featured display areas on pages such as the
Collector Car page and the Harley Davidson page may have no
images or only a few images for the next few days. As more items
are listed these display spaces will fill.
* The rotation of Featured Gallery on the home page and class
overview pages (such as Sports Cars) may take up to 24 hours. This
will be shortened to a few hours or less within the week.
* The number of items displayed next to category names is running up
to 24 hours behind on its updates. In many cases there is a zero (0)
next to a category name when items are actually in a category (such
as Volkswagon). Check the category to see if there are items, or use
search. This will be fixed within a few days. To visit eBay Motors,

eBay Motors, to motors--@e...
At 14:48:25 eBay posted that the Announcements Board was
unavailable for several hours beginning at about 09:30 PT today.
They used the Topic of the Day area of the eBay User to User
Discussion Boards and the Community Help areas of the site to
provide an alternative method of communicating and will use
the same method again in future if necessary.
26 Apr - eBay had an outage/slowdown from approx 19:15 PT until approx
19:55PT. eBay claims it started at 19:21 and lasted 9 minutes, but
posters on the chat boards reported it differently. If you feel your
auctions were impacted by this outage/slowdown, email a credit
request to bill-@e....
eBay is once again having problems with indexing so all the listing
information is again running 6 plus hours behind. This effects
new listings, ending soon, going going gone etc. and all updating
of these items. For current information you need to go to the actual
item page and not rely on search information. eBay has fixed the
problems again, but information is not current. This has been one
of several reoccurring problems for three weeks.
eBays new car site is obviously a work in progress as more problems
appear. They have a stated goal of creating a safe and convenient way
for anyone to buy and sell a used car online. With users questioning
this dramatic change in format, eBay says their current site does not
easily adapt to the needs of typical used car buyers (for example,
their need to search using multiple attributes and the need to provide
special services such as financing and insurance). They feel the new
approach was required to make the site usable for a broader base of
customers. They acknowledge that eBay Motors is far from perfect,
and that they have experienced intermittent problems with listing
pages and other bugs. There have also been difficulties that have
negatively impacted eBay members, and they are taking the
following steps to help address these problems
* Sellers caught in the transition will get credits for the standard
insertion fee which will automatically be applied to seller accounts
for all items listed in any of the 28 expiring eBay categories, for
items ending in those categories after 12:00 PT on April 24. This
will apply to all items, regardless of whether or not they sell.
These credits will be applied to eBay accounts by 15 May.
Expired categories list is at
http://pages.ebay.com/community/news/autos-oldcats.html
* In response to intermittent access problems in listings on eBay
Motors, items listed in any eBay Motors category from Mon 24 Apr
12:00 PT through Wed 26Apr 12:00 PT will be extended by 3 days.
* The eBay Motors team has established a discussion forum to try to
create a constructive dialog and to establish a plan to address
concerns.
eBay says this dialog will get executive level attention. The forum
is called eBay Motors and is located at the Soapbox Discussion
Board located in Community Chat at
http://pages.ebay.com/community/chat/index.html

27 Apr - eBay had another outage today 27Apr, from approx 14:35 PT until approx 14:47PT. If you feel your auctions were impacted by this outage,
email a credit request to bill-@e....
eBay has extended the previously announced eBay Motors listing
extensions so that it will now cover items listed from Mon 24 Apr
12:00 PT through Wed 26Apr at 24:00 PT (an addition of a 12 hour
period) extending them by 3 days.
