They are also pushing their Great Collections auctions, pointing out
that all dealers offer a 30-day guarantee that the item is as
described as well as a five-year guarantee of authenticity.
They
mention the ability for sellers to market their wares through great
collections, either as a dealer or consignee. TAG advises caution when
dealing with Great Collections, as the feedback of both Butterfield
and Butterfield, (73 tot - 50pos 17neutral not good, and 6 negatives),
and of some of the sellers has been less than stellar, with too many
profiles showing negative feedback. We have also observed that
shipping and handling costs are sometimes excessive. Please insure you
carefully review feedback profiles, and know all your shipping and
handling costs up front BEFORE bidding on any item.

Boxlot.Com approximately 100,000 listings (hard to determine, because
the numbers shown don't indicate if they are items or listings,
but
regardless, once you get in and count actual listings, appear to run
about 50% of those claimed) and a steady pursuit of a larger
audience.
They run contests, promotions, have links to lots of other sites, Main
Street Markets, and a Media Store, Chat boards articles, info
boards,
and lots of crosslinks to everything. They do online banner and link
advertising, but the bidders just don't seem to be there. What
does
a site need to do to capture the selling and buying public?
Suggestions? FEES - no listing or insert fees, stamp
insert fees
free until 10 April 2000. No buyers premium. Sellers are charged
a
commission based on the final sale price for each successful auction.
The commission rate for single-item auctions is 5% of the final selling
price up to $50.00, and 2.5% for any amount above $50.00. The
commission for multiple item auctions is based upon the lowest
successful bid times the total amount of items sold.
