The Auction Guild Notes for Tuesday 21 Dec 1999
Our sincerest apologies go to all our subscribers for our complete
failure to notify you of eBays surprise free listing day on 20 Dec.
Though we feel it is our mission to provide you with this information,
our only excuse (and we all know what excuses are like, and that
everybody has one…) is that our primary staff writer and editor is
currently dealing with a catastrophic illness in one of her family
members, and she is not getting to spend the amount of time in front of
her computer needed to catch items like the eBay listing day. Maybe it
is time to hook her up to a beeper :o) We do feel as if we let you all
down, but will continue to strive to do better in the future. Thank you
all for being TAGnotes subscribers!
eBay had a free listing day on 20 Dec (again we really apologize about
not notifying our subscribers), which caused some QUOTE performance
issues ENDQUOTE for about a half hour from 2130 to 2200 PT. The site was
running very slowly all day, particularly from the listing end of
things, as folks scurried to load their free listings. With total
listings having dropped about 1.5 million over the last few weeks, this
free listings day helped the site recover to a current total of
2,959,681. This is well off
the high of approx 4.13 million following the free listing day in
September, but is still more than double the number listings of any
other online auction site.

Millennium O Rama continues with the 70s and 80s, leading up to the end
