ebaY www.ebaymotors.com is holding a 50 cent cap promotion on auction style and fixed price listings on for ebaY's parts and motors only on Tuesday 5 December 2006 between 00:00:01 PT (12:00 AM plus one second on TUE 5 DEC 2006 and ending that same day, 5 DEC 2006 at 23:59:59 PT(11:59 PM plus 59 seconds).

ebaY will still charge all other fees including final value fees, listing upgrade fees, such as Buy It Now, featured plus, subtitle, highlight, bold, gallery, gift services, scheduled listings, gallery featured, homepage featured, reserve fees, ebaY Picture Services, duration fees, etc.

ebaY is excluding all other listings, including ebaY Motors Vehicle listings, listings on international ebaY sites, Live Auction listings, Professional Services, Store Inventory listings and listings on ebaY.com.

List fixed price items through the Sell Your Item Form, ebaY Seller Tools, and most third-party tools.

ebaY UK is holding a promotion for fixed price Buy It Now only listings starting Wednesday, 6 December 2006 at 00:00:01 GMT to Thursday 7 December 23:59:59 GMT 2006

Only listings in British Pounds Sterling on ebay.co.uk will qualify for 10 Pence insertion fees (no residence requirement). Included are fixed price (Buy It Now) listings only. Any item previously scheduled to go live on 6,7 Dec 2006 will qualify for the 10 pence insertion fee promotion. If you re-list an item on Thu 9 Mar 2006 that had previously closed without a successful sale, the re-list will qualify for the 10 pence insertion fee promotion.

Excluded are auction listings and auction with buy it now, the automotive (cars, classic cars, motorcycles or other vehicles) and property categories, multiple item listings in any format, mobile phones with contract sub category of the mobile & home phones category, and shops inventory listings.

To sell with Buy It Now only fixed price format you must either have 10+ feedback score or if you have a PayPal account you need to have 5+ feedback score.

If you are in a country other than the UK you may participate in this promotion but must list from the UK site, be willing to ship to the UK and be willing to accept British Sterling Pounds (though generally sales will be in the US and paid in US dollars). ebaY Australia is holding a Fixed Price with PayPal listing promotion where the insertion fee is free. The seller must choose to accept PayPal as a payment option. The promotion runs from 12:00:01am AEDST, Tuesday 5th December, 2006 and ending 11:59:59pm AEDST, Thursday 7th December, 2006.

Motors, real estate, auction style and stores listings are not included. All other fees apply. Anyone can use this promotion, but must list on the ebaY AU site, be willing to ship to Australia, and accept AU dollars.

EBAY'S NEW DOUBLE SECRET ANTI COUNTERFEIT POLICY

With new lawsuits filed by trademarked brand name and patent holders rolling in all the time, ebaY has finally had to face the fact that they must do something about the counterfeit items and fakes being sold on their site. ebaY profits from those illegal sales, and one day a court is going to confirm the illegality of profiting from fraud and theft, and ebaY will be held to account.

Forced to the wall, ebaY is implementing some steps that might actually have a positive affect on the multitude of fakes listed on the site. Of course ebaY is implementing this in a typically ebaY way, secretly (so no deterrent value), unannounced (so in effect without being posted on the site without adequate notice and in violation of the user agreement) and with what is sure to hurt legitimate sellers with ebaY usual response to falsely accused sellers - no appeal process in place and sellers put out of business with no recourse and no way to prove their legitimacy.

So far this appears to be intentionally "leaked" information - nothing posted on ebaY's site that TAG could find - so it is sure to change before ebaY actually posts a policy - even though the secret policy is supposed to be active now.

The components of the plan allegedly consist of ebaY developing a list of commonly faked goods (kept secret) and screening anyone who sells these items. Anyone who sells items on this secret list will have to be PayPal verified (but not required to offer PayPal as payment). Sellers of the items on the secret list will have to undergo an ebaY review - but they wont know it until they are blocked from selling items, and who knows how long ebaY will take to do the review. Sellers will not be able to use 1 or 3 day listings for items on the secret list. TAG has been saying for years that there is no reason to allow 1 day listings for anything and that 3 day listings should also be eliminated or restricted. One and three day listings are favored by thieves, scammers and con artists, who delight in the ability to get their victims snared before anyone can report the fraud. Even when reported, ebaY does not react fast enough to eliminate the listing before it ends. The best part of this plan is that ebaY is restricting some cross border trade and some in country sales. Sellers in China, including Hong Kong, will not be able to sell items on the secret list. This is probably an early indicator that ebaY is throwing in the towel on the China market, and TAG would not be surprised to see ebaY backtracking on their investment etc in China, giving Yahoo another victory.

Google is holding a promotion whereby buyers who use a seller's Google Checkout to pay for their items will get $10 off purchases of $30 or more before shipping and tax. In addition, Google is offering sellers free processing of their Google Checkout sales through 31 Dec 2006.

Though you can't put a link to your Google Checkout in your ebaY listing, you can still use Google Checkout to process your ebaY sales. Just mention in your listing that you offer several means to receive payment and put a link in your listing so a buyer or potential buyer can email you directly to ask what your payment options are. You can then tell them about Google Checkout, provide them with a link and also mention the $10. off promo.
