The Auction Guild Notes for Monday 25 Oct 1999
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The TAGnotes site has a list of links to Online Auction Resources.
Go to the site and sign in, and click on Links on the left side of the
page. http://www.onelist.com/files/TheAuctionGuildnotes/ There is also a
copy of the new eBay draft deadbeat bidder NPB Alert email in the files
section. http://www.onelist.com/files/TheAuctionGuildnotes/

eBay US- Daylight savings time (fall back) happens on 31 Oct. Remember
to take that into account when listing auctions this week. If they end
on or after 31 Oct, they will end one hour earlier due to the time
change.

There have been on and off slowdowns on eBay for the last three
evenings. Ebay has a post about this on the announcement board, but are
not seeing the slowdowns. The spikes seem to be happening
intermittently, so eBay decided to have more staff on hand tonight
during peak use time to see if they could track the problems down.

We are still waiting for a response from legal on section 7 of the user
agreement. First message sent 2 Oct, last message sent 25 Oct – 1 Day
remaining for User Agreement to go into effect, and questions and
request submitted on 2 Oct have still not been answered or met.

Have had a series of communications with eBay about the spamming
incident. Their next response (or lack of response) will determine if we
file formal complaints with BBBonline and TRUSTe. Last information
request sent 23 Oct.

Ebay purchased Kruse Car Auctions several months ago. It appears that
eBay through Kruse, has been selling automobiles on eBay under the
identity carsonline. There was no disclosure on the listings or on the
carsonline ID that they WERE eBay owned. None of this came to light
until someone from carsonline solicited feedback from other eBayers in
order to get the carsonline feedback rating above 10 so they could use
the featured auction option. A copy of this letter was sent to Auction
Watch (AW), who publicized its content. Soliciting feedback is a NARU
(not a registered user) offense, and eBay has NARUed carsonline. This
is very interesting since it is virtually eBay NARUing eBay! Since
there were many not favorable neutral feedbacks by disgruntled
customers, this gives eBay an opportunity to wipe the slate clean, and
start over with a new ID. We will all have to watch the high priced
vintage cars and see if Kruse appears in another incarnation.

All seems to be functioning well, as the new servers have doubled their
