ebaY users are again reporting sporadic problems with Gallery images.
Reports say these images keep disappearing off items so that at any one
time a few of the images will be missing from the search results. ebaY
can reset the images to get them to reappear, or the seller can reload
them, but this is an endless amount of work to keep checking and
rechecking these images. Since this has been going on for several
months, TAG wonders when or if ebaY will ever repair this. Since
sellers pay a premium for the gallery, it might be something sellers
should review before spending the extra fees on a sporadically available
service.

On 12 Feb at 05:25:59 PT users reported that the free counters on ebaY
provided on the site by Honesty/Andale were down. This was causing
listings to hang and not download the bidding section of the auction
listing, making bidding difficult. Intermittent problems with these
counters continued throughout the day with problems reported as late as
22:21 PT.

On 13 Feb at 02:59:17 PT users reported problems with the Honesty/Andale
counter. At 11:19:56 PT users reported site problems and problems
accessing pages. At 11:29:07 PT There were site wide problems with
'Page can not be displayed' messages and CGI3 errors. there were outages
in some categories These problems spread to the whole site with users
receiving error messages at 11:30:09 PT and 'page can't be displayed'
through 11:31:09 PT. At 11:32:57 PT ebaY posted that for some users the
site was down for a brief period of time.   Users continued to report
problems until 11:40, and the problems were universal.

ebaY will take its system down for scheduled maintenance on Fri 15 Feb
from 01:00 PT until 03:00 PT. ebaY Billpoint payments will also be down
during that time. on Friday, February 15th, 2002, for regularly
scheduled maintenance.

Pink Quote of the Day - When asked via email if Mister Lister would be
updated when to match the new ebaY listing page format, Phil W at ebaY
Mister Lister Support responded, "From: eBay Customer Support

To: Joe Customer <xy-@xyz.nex>
Sent: Wednesday, February 13, 2002 12:12 PM
Subject: Re: new listing format
Hello, Thank you for writing in with your questions about the Mister
Lister program. At this time there is no set timeframe as to when the
Mister Lister or other bulk uploading tools will follow to the new
format. Please do keep in mind, we are currently beta testing the new
form with a few sellers. Based on their input, we will make enhancements
as needed and this may include the updating of the Mister Lister tool.
Again, at this time, there is no word. Good Luck with your future eBay
transactions. Regards,
Phil W. eBay Mister Lister Support". TAG raises an eyebrow at this, and
hopes that if anyone reading this is a beta tester, they speak for all
the Mister Lister users out there, and ask that it be upgraded for use
with the new form.

ebaY is backing off the complete Half.Com site integration with ebaY
core. ebaY posted that they will maintaining the uniqueness of each
site. Half.com will continue to function as a separate site. An account
on one site will be activated on both sites, so registration, contact
information, and preference settings will be the same on Half.com and
ebaY. Half.Com will adopt the feedback on ebaY core, and ebaY will
allow users to merge their feedback from both sites.

What remains ambiguous is if sellers will HAVE to open an account on
Half.Com and what the user agreement changes will be. ebaY says that
they will update the current ebaY user agreement to include the Half.com
policy, but not what changes ebaY will make, or if they will provide the
30 day requisite notice for a user agreement change. ebaY also says,
ebaY will require new users to accept the updated user agreement in
order to register for ebaY and Half.com. That ebaY will require
current ebaY users will to accept the Half.com policy in order to use
Half.com services. And that ebaY will require current Half.com users to
accept the ebaY user agreement in order to use ebaY services.   ebaY
will require some Half.com users to make specific account changes, and
ebaY will notify those users by email. For more info go to -

ebaY Cookies being subverted?
This article is a bit scary, and though the hacker used ebaY as his demo
it looks as if it could be applied universally.
http://www.newsbytes.com/news/02/174306.html

ebaY announced on 13 Feb at 17:01:01 PT that they were going to refunds
the 5 cent listing fee for ebaY US store owners, who list items in their
stores on Thurs 14 Feb, between 00:00:01 PT and 23:59:59 PT 14 Feb.
Excluded are all regular auction-style listings, ebaY Motors, Premier,
Real Estate, International, and Professional Services listings. All
other fees still apply including auction-style listing fees, Buy It Now,
feature fee, featured plus, highlight, bold, gallery, gallery featured,
extended duration surcharge for ebaY Stores fixed price listings, etc.

Ongoing Issues and Information
----------------------------------------------------------------
Break the ebaY monopoly!   Provide ebaY the incentive it obviously needs
to provide better service to its users, and to its customers, the
sellers. Sellers need to develop other marketplaces so they can insure
they have an online marketplace for their goods into the future. TAG
has an editorial on the website titled 'ebaY- a solution NOW'.
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=78

TAG recommends that IF you are going to list on ebaY, do NOT use
Billpoint, ebaY pic services, Checkout, or ANY ebaY provided service
beyond the most basic ones. None of ebaY's services are reliable, and
the feature and site reliability continues to be problematical.

ebaY Billpoint payments problems, some solutions, and why you should not
have a Billpoint account can be found on the TAG website at

Is Checkout interfering with your online business? Is the new
search slowing down your sales? Tired of the scam
Chargebacks form Billpoint? You pay ebaY for services, so file a
complaint against ebaY with the Better Business Bureau, the
FTC and or The Consumer Trouble Shooter.

PhotoPoint.Com has a status update page at

It is primarily feeling out what user wants are, though for the most
part the answer to that is easy - they want to recover their images!!!
If you were a PhotoPoint users, go fill out the survey. The site
assures former customers that their photos have not been lost, and are
safe. It also seems to be asking how much folks are willing to pay to
get their already paid for images back again.
