On 13 Sep at 05:58:07 PT users reported intermittent sporadic My ebaY
problems, with the page doubled in size, or inaccessible.
On 14 Sep at 03:50:44 PT ebaY posted that the feedback forum was
unavailable from 03:00 PT to 03:40 PT. At 15:02:30 PT users reported
the search engine was not working properly, with many items on watch
lists and book marked, missing in search results. Users continued to
report search problems, with search operating slowly, or incompletely
through 15:50:55 PT. At 14:19:15 PT ebaY posted that there were
problems with reviewing and submitting listings uploaded using Mister
Lister from 12:59 PT to 14:10 PT. At 16:36:16 PT users continued
to
have intermittent problems with My ebaY, making it appear that ebaY was
modifying the code. My ebaY appeared to work using Netscape but not IE.
At 18:58:24 PT the problems with search continued to be reported by
users. At 19:28:43 PT users reported the feedback system was once again
not working. At 19:31:37 PT ebaY posted that users were having problems
uploading or viewing images using ebaY's pic services.
ebaY users continue to have problems with ebaY's sign in and cookie
system. Though their attention and concerns over the last five days has
been on other things, the reports of problems continue to crop up. Some
have managed to implement a work around, but others have limited or no
access to ebaY. ebaY needs to address the huge problem their faulty
implementation of this system created and restore full access for all
users.
Some work arounds suggested by ebaY
*Sign in to ebaY before logging in to any of the discussion boards
including the Community Help Boards, Category-Specific Discussion
Boards, User to User Discussion Boards, Workshops and Affiliates Boards.
The Chat boards are not affected.
*If you still have problems signing in to the rest of ebaY, close all
open browser windows and then open a new browser to sign in to ebaY.
USERS suggested workarounds include
* Access the site through one of the non-US sites such as ebaY Canada,
UK, or Australia.
*Use a browser such as Opera (www.opera.com) that ignores most of the
intrusive tracking code on ebaY.
*Use protection against ebaY's cookies with programs such as AdAware,
clean your cookie files frequently, get the new IE V6 browser and set
the P3P option to screen out ebaY's intrusive tracking code.
In TAG's opinion, sellers who feel their auction were negatively
impacted by buyers not being able to access ebaY to bid, should request
refunds for ALL auctions running during this ongoing fiasco. Sellers
should also request refunds for any My ebaY outages as ebaY has turned
My ebaY into a service essential to bidding.
ebaY took the website and the Billpoint site down for scheduled
maintenance from 01:00 PT until 03:00 PT on Fri 14 Sep.
TO REQUEST REFUNDS from ebaY go to
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=33
Don’t take no for an answer; keep requesting until you get them.
The ebaY member who decided to take matters into his own hands on WTC
auctions, and made very high bids on auctions, reported the auction to
ebaY and when it was ended early with him as high bidder, posted
negative feedback on the seller's feedback page,
http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/farmboy1031/, was suspended
by ebaY for
feedback spamming, bidding without intending to buy and auction
interference. ebaY also posted on their site, " Please do not bid or
place a "Buy it Now" bid on any of these items that may be listed. We
are actively searching for these listings and will remove them. If you
purchase the item using Buy It Now or if the listing finishes with you
as the high bidder and you do not pay for the item, you may receive a
Non Paying Bidder complaint or negative feedback from the seller. eBay
will not remove this negative feedback even though the item was listed
during the trading suspension."
ebaY in controlling the sale of disaster items, posted the following
rules:
*The ebaY offensive items policy prohibits all items directly related to
crime events (crime scene material, propaganda, etc.) and as such will
be removed from ebaY.
*Until 1 Oct, trading in items related to the World Trade Center or the
Pentagon is suspended.
*All items with World Trade Center or Pentagon in the title will be
removed, regardless of whether or not they are designated as a charity.
* Do not bid or place a "Buy it Now" bid on any of these items
* If you purchase the item using Buy It Now or if the listing finishes
with you as the high bidder and you do not pay for the item, you may
receive a Non Paying Bidder complaint or negative feedback from the
seller. ebaY will not remove this negative feedback even though the item
was listed during the trading suspension.
* Do not report newly listed WTC and Pentagon items. Only report
listings that are at least 24 hours old.
*Sellers who are running a charity auction may make reference to a
charity auction in the description only, but may not reference the WTC
or Pentagon or 11Sep events.
*Clearly state the name of the organization you intend to donate the
funds to
*Specify what percentage of the proceeds will go to the charity
*Encourage buyers to send the funds to be donated to the charity in
checks or money orders made out to the charity.
For more info go to the charity page at http://pages.ebay.com/charity/
ebaY held memorial gathering on each of the ebaY discussion, help,
category and chat board, beginning at 09:00 PT. ebaY placed
the US
Flag on their home page on 14 Sep at 23:03:16 PT and removed it on 15
Sep 02:16:24 PT.
ebaY has added donation information to their charity page at
http://pages.ebay.com/charity/
ebaY has also made it possible to donate to the September 11th Fund and
the 9-11 Fire Fighters fund direct from ebaY by setting up an ebaY store
for the United Way and the Fire Fighters. You can "buy" a donation on
the site at http://www.ebaystores.com/id=37721795
http://www.ebaystores.com/newyorkfire911relieffund
ebaY is waiving all related fees for donations to the funds they
support.

Amazon Auctions, zShops and Marketplace, immediately on hearing about
the disaster, changed over their main Amazon home page, so that Amazon
users could donate directly to the Red Cross from their site. To date
Amazon users have donated 5.5 mil. The default donation is $10. but can
be changed to any amount. http://www.amazon.com
Amazon users problems continue. There appears to be a never ending
stream of intermittent and serious problems. These reoccurring problems
force sellers to constantly monitor their listings and patch them as
they turn up incorrect. Some users are starting to double list their
books on sites such as ABE, in case Amazon falters beyond redemption.

Meet2Bid a new small site for stamp collectors. Approx 1,000 auctions
with the expected dearth of bids. This site is well laid out, easy to
navigate and loads quickly. It has the expected bells and whistles
found on most sites. Fee schedule can be found at
http://www.meet2bid.com/help/fee_schedule.cfm and appears a
little steep
for a new site, but looks as of there is a free 15 day trial period.

***** PLEASE NOTE ***WARNING *** PLEASE NOTE *****
In this tragic hour for the world, as if terrorists aren't enough, there
appears to be a plethora of sick individuals that are spamming for
donations to the Red Cross, but are really freebie websites and other
hosts set up to grab credit card numbers, PayPal donations, and users
email address to further spam. Don't get caught or let your loved ones
either, make sure you donate money to creditable organizations only and
check the bonafides of an organization unknown to you BEFORE you
contribute. For articles on the subject go to
