On 28 Aug at 09:23:09 PT users reported problems accessing ebaY. Some
could not access at all unless they came through an aliased site such
as Safeweb.Com. At 10:12:01 PT view items was down, though some
co-brands were working intermittently for some users. The seller search
page was also not working. At 10:23:04 PT ebaY posted that some
users
were having difficulty accessing some ebaY functions. At 10:37:47
PT
ebaY stated that the problems occurred from 10:00 PT to 10:30 PT.
Users continued to report problems through 10:54:28 PT. At 15:06:08 PT
sellers again reported intermittent problems that got worse over time
with most functions inoperable at 17:35:16 PT. At 18:14:22 PT ebaY
announced that some members had problems when viewing items or accessing
completed items between 17:25 PT and 17:45 PT. Users reported completed
search back at 18:01:27 PT.
ebaY is taking the site down for regularly scheduled maintenance from
01:00 PT until 03:00 PT on Fri 31 Aug. Billpoint will also be down
during that time frame.
Users reported that their auctions are disappearing from the seller's
list one or two days before the auctions end. This appears to be
happening on revised auctions when a seller makes the duration of the
auction longer than in the original listing. ebaY now permits sellers
to revise the length of an auction, but until they fix this problem, it
is not a good idea to use this feature. Though the auctions are still
running they only show up on the completed auctions list.
TO REQUEST REFUNDS from ebaY go to
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=33
Don’t take no for an answer; keep requesting until you get them.
Pink Quote of the Day, sent to some ebaY members on 28 Aug,

This was sent by users to Safe Harbor, as it was SPAM, and also made no
sense at all, and Safe Harbor answered, "Thank you for contacting us
with your concerns about this notice you received from us recently. You
along with other eBay Store owners have been sent this email notice
regarding a subscription that is about to expire. This appears to have
been incorrectly sent out, and you may disregard it at this time. We
have notified our engineering staff about this situation, and they are
looking into why this occurred to correct it quickly. We appreciate your
understanding as we take the steps to correct this situation." ebaY
also posted on 29 Aug at 13:23:03 PT that, "Some members have received
an email informing them that their free subscription period to eBay
Stores is about to expire, and that eBay will begin billing the monthly
subscription fee of $9.95 beginning September 1st. This message was sent
in error. The monthly Store subscription fee and fixed price insertion
fee will be waived for Store sellers until October 1st, because we are
continuing our free promotion period for an additional month. If you
have received this email, please disregard it." TAG wonders just what
it is those folks smoke and drink in ebaYville. So much for ebaY's NO
SPAM policy. We wonder who sent it out and how this happened.
ebaY has several educational "How-To" tours. These voice-guided five to
seven minute tours have a step-by-step tutorial on the process of
buying, selling, safety, using My ebaY etc. Tours can be found at
www.ebay.com/education
ebaY is changing their sign in process. Once a user enters their User
ID and password from http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?SignIn ,
users should be able to perform the vast majority of activities on ebaY
without signing in again. For security, ebaY will continue to require a
password every time a user signs in for activities that involve personal
or financial information. ebaY will also change the sign in
preferences in the My ebaY preferences/set-up tab. Users will no longer
have the option of which activities they want auto sign in for. Once
users sign in they will be signed in for
*Using My ebaY
*Changing account information
*Managing items
*Leaving Feedback
*Using chat boards
*All other activities (includes Email Me, looking up other user's
information, etc.)
Users can still choose to sign in or not for
*Bidding
*Selling
*See email addresses when viewing User IDs -- if you are involved in a
transaction.
Sign Out is on the upper right corner of the ebaY pages to expire
password and end the ebaY session.

Amazon Auctions, zShops and Marketplace is changing its billing for Pro
Merchant Subscriptions, and any other miscellaneous charges. Amazon
will assess all charges against sellers' payments account balance; a
seller's credit card will be charged only if the fee exceeds that
seller's available balance.
Billing History from previous account cycles will remain accessible
through the "Billing Archive" link on the Seller Account pages. Recent
transaction activity can be viewed using the "Your Payments
Transactions" link as before and viewing your Payments account summary;
clicking on the dollar amount of a particular charge will display the
details for that charge. Confirmation e-mail and other account
functions will remain the same.

AuctionWatch (AW) has closed down threads where users discuss eHammer,
and the success they are having there. TAG wonders where AW sees the
competitive threat coming from, but maybe any site that has any success
is too threatening to AW's 800 pound gorilla bed partner - ebaY.
