20Aug at 07:19:38 PT users reported images not showing on auctions. At
09:35:35 PT reports that cgi 3 was working intermittently. These
problems were intermittent and short lived.
On 21 Aug at 09:19:59 PT ebaY reported that credit card processing for
registration, ID verification and account payment was intermittently
unavailable from 08:00 PT to 09:00 PT.
On 22Aug at 07:41:02 PT users reported the revise code in stores once
Again had broken code, making revisions impossible. This problem
continued throughout the day. At 13:40:39 PT cgi 6 was down
intermittently along with the seller list. At 16:31:41PT users reported
that ebaY had once again defaulted all the listing options back to ebaY
favorable settings. Sellers who have these options preset need
to
check them before listing to insure they are set to the sellers
preferences.
ebaY will be down for regularly scheduled maintenance from 01:00 PT
until 03:00 PT on Fri 24 Aug. Billpoint and the ebaY discussion and
help boards will also be down during this time. This will include the
US, United Kingdom, Australian, and Canadian Discussion Boards.
TO REQUEST REFUNDS from ebaY go to
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=33
Don’t take no for an answer; keep requesting until you get them
A "The Street" article that takes a critical look at ebaY's numbers can
be read at http://www.thestreet.com/tech/internet/1522833.html
ebaY is changing their invoices and will offer users the option to
receive a new HTML invoice, or a text-based invoice. All invoices, will
contain the following updates:
*previous invoice balance;
*total payments and credits;
*total fees and debits;
*detailed payment instructions;
*member contact information;
*helpful links;
*announcements.
On-line invoices, will still be available via the account status page,
and will also be redesigned to reflect the new HTML format. To receive
an HTML email invoice, go preferences in My ebaY and select HTML
invoice. This will take place over the next few weeks.
ebaY will make the previously announced notification preference changes
in the next few days. The changes are aimed at trying to simplify the
user interface for the notification preferences page. To clearly show
the changes a user makes to the preferences. And to create a
way for
users to track preferences. Users will be able to view the last 90 days
of changes made. TAG again strongly recommends that all users go to
their preference pages in My ebaY, and make sure that ebaY did not once
again default all the options to accept ebaY SPAM. This is something
they have done on at least three occasions, and these changes will
provide the perfect excuse for this "accidental" change to happen again.
ebaY store information
*Gallery option for fixed price listings cost 25 cents per item for up
to 30 days, and will display a thumbnail gallery image beside the
listing on the ebaY store page and on ebaY stores search results pages.
The ebaY stores search can be found from any of the Stores directory
pages at www.ebaystores.com.
*Seller's payment information for the checkout process, will clarify to
buyers to whom to make checks payable. This will happen within a few
weeks. In the meantime, sellers need to contact their buyers with the
correct name to use to send payment.
*Store name policies do not allow sellers to include any of ebaY's
trademarked names in their store name. These include ebaY, ebaY.com,
Half.com, Butterfields, Billpoint, etc. If a store name currently
contains any of these or other trademarked names, it can be changed at
http://cgi6.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?StorefrontLogin&usage=1.
*ebaY is changing the seller list page so that buyers can easily
distinguish a seller's auction-style listings from their fixed price
listings. For more info go to
http://forums.ebay.com/dws?14@998558062359@.eebc640
*ebaY will change the completed items link so that the link will appear
when at least one item has been purchased. This change should occur over
the next few weeks. In the meantime, sellers will be able to access a
history of their past buyers through the Purchase Confirmation e-mails
or through the links within the "Items I've Sold" table in My ebaY.
ebaY is now allowing sellers to change listings that have not yet
received bids in the following fields:
*Reserve price
*Minimum bid price
*Listing duration
*Quantity
*Item location/region
*Private listing designation
These changes are now available on the US site and will appear in late
September for the international sites.
ebaY is holding a workshop on Fri 24 Aug titled, "Monthly Trust &
Safety Workshop: Buying Offenses". A SafeHarbor investigator will host
a workshop on the various buying offenses that ebaY enforces, including
transaction interference, unwelcome bidding, bid shielding, and others.

Last week, ebaY revised their bid retraction rules so that a seller may
not add to their item description during the last 12 hours of the
listing. This week, they again changed the item revision rules to stop
sellers from revising an item during the last 24 hours of a listing.
These rules are in conflict, so ebaY will again change the item revision
feature next week so that it is consistent with the bid retraction
policy. Once the change is implemented, the item revision rules will
function as follows:
*Prior to last 12 hours, and there are no bids: Changes are allowed to
listing.
*Within last 12 hours, and there are no bids: Only additions to the
listing are allowed, not revisions.
*Prior to last 12 hours, when there are bids on the item: Only additions
to the listing are allowed, not revisions.
*Within the last 12 hours, when there are bids on the item: No changes
are allowed.
Since none of these changes were made with the requisite 30 day notice
contracted for in the user agreement, they are a direct violation of the
contract between ebaY and it's users.
Though MANY users are having problems listing, relisting and revising on
ebaY, the one group most negatively impacted is WebTV users. We
regularly hear from subscribers about the ongoing reoccurring
impossibility of listing, relisting and revising on ebaY. Try emailing
me-@ebay.com and pie-@ebay.com with your comments. Some things to
try, are to use third party service providers such as
http://www.vrane.com, or http://www.baypal.com
- both WebTV friendly, so
you don't have to list directly on ebaY. PLEASE NOTE - We incorrectly
reported that WebTV users could use Mister Lister, they can't. We are
sorry for the misinformation.
