On 15Aug at 08:28:29 PT users reported Mister Lister down and the
community boards down.   The boards were back at 08:35:00 PT, and no
further reports of problems were forthcoming.   At 19:34:40 PT users
reported the site slow.

On 16 Aug 07:49:43 PT users reported cgi5 html errors, with about one
third of the attempts to verify a revised auction on cgi5 glitching out.
At 09:37:58 PT, the VerifyUpdateItem module was throwing HTML error
messages. At 20:15:34 PT users again reported cgi5 problems. At
22:47:40 PT ebaY was throwing “item contained no data" errors.

17 Aug 06:33:25 PT users reported that cgi5 was still throwing HTML
read errors on the VerifyUpdateItem module, as it had the day before.

On 18Aug 12:10:52 PT a few users reported flashing banner ads
reappearing on the search listing pages. This does not appear to be
widespread at present.

In general, excepting the un-repaired ongoing problems, ebaY ran well
through 20 Aug.

TO REQUEST REFUNDS from ebaY go to
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=33
Don’t take no for an answer; keep requesting until you get them

The endless problems with ebaY picture services continue. Decline the
ActiveX control if asked and choose to opt to not use ebaY picture
services. Bypass the process altogether by going to
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowPhotoOption&page=167
This takes you to a listing page that skips over the ebaY image hosting.
Another route you can try is
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ListItemForSaleShow
Another alternative is to simply ignore the java program/ActiveX
request and leave the window open while listing. You should be able to
list items, though the applet is neither accepted nor denied. Once your
listing is completed, deny the java program/ActiveX and close that
window. A method of bypassing ALL the chronic relist problems on ebaY
is to download the Opera browser at http://www.opera.com. Do all your
relists using the Opera browser.

Though MANY users are having problems listing, relisting and revising on
ebaY, the one group most negatively impacted is WebTV users. We
regularly hear from subscribers about the ongoing reoccurring
impossibility of listing, relisting and revising on ebaY. Try emailing
me-@ebay.com and pie-@ebay.com with your comments. Some things to
try, are to use third party service providers such as
http://www.vrane.com, or http://www.baypal.com - both WebTV friendly or
ebaY's own Mister Lister (free downloadable bulk lister), so you don't
have to list directly on ebaY.

ebaY is holding a back to school contest. For all info go to
http://www.ebay.com/promo/backtoschool/

ebaY says they are going to be purchasing Fast Search technology to
improve their search engines. For press release, go to
http://www.fastsearch.com/index.php?d=press&c=display&pr_rel=94
The Fast Search site is at   http://www.fastsearch.com

ebaY is changing their Antiques & Art area. EbaY will gather all
Antiques & Art categories together. ebaY will add some new categories
such as Decorative Arts. Each of the main Art categories will now have
subcategories for Antique and Contemporary works, and each of those will
include additional breakouts.   ebaY will add a new category for
Self-Representing Artists. Proposed changes may be viewed at
http://pages.ebay.com/preview/chg-antiques.html
Send comments and feedback before the end of August to
anti-@ebay.com.

ebaY is also changing the Movies categories.
**ebaY will differentiate between vintage and contemporary
**Reproductions will be broken out in the "Lobby Cards" and "Posters"
categories
**ebaY will separate "Props" and "Wardrobe" under memorabilia
**ebaY will create subcategories under both "Television" and "Theater"
**The "General", "Celebrity", and "Hollywood" categories will be
combined into "Other Memorabilia";
**Genres will be added as subcategories to "Laserdisc" and "Television"
in the "Video, Film" category.
For an outline of the proposed changes go to
http://pages.ebay.com/preview/chg-movies.html
Send your feedback prior to the end of August to mov-@ebay.com

ebaY is selling a collection of Folk Art on ebaY Premier from 16 Aug
until 25. The items include works by Bill Traylor, Leroy Almon,

Amazon Auctions, zShops and Marketplace
On 16 Aug Amazon did maintenance on the seller platforms to fix listing
and display problems. During the maintenance periods there could be
problems with
- Bulk, Book and Inventory loaders intermittently unavailable
- Uploaded files may be delayed in processing
- Listings may remain in "opening soon" longer than expected
- Storefronts and listings may update more slowly than expected
- Intermittent delays during the maintenance

Amazon partner Prospero Technologies did maintenance to the boards on
Sat 18 Aug from 05:00 to 06:00 ET. There are some concerns amongst users
that logging onto the Prospero boards is interfering with the users
Amazon account due to resource management across the two sites. On
Amazon, you can log in but not log out of the Prospero boards, though
you can go through Prosperos site and log in and out from there.

Circuit City stores will sell consumer electronics items through
Amazon.com, with purchases ready for immediate pickup at Circuit City
stores nationwide.   The expanded selection and in-store pickup will
launch in November. Where both Amazon.com and Circuit City offer the
same electronics products, customers will have a choice between
traditional Amazon.com shipping options or immediate pickup from Circuit
City stores. Items offered by Circuit City that are not offered in the
Amazon.com Electronics store will be available exclusively for in-store

Yahoo Auctions is doing an auction user survey. Since the grave errors
that caused a complete collapse of their auction site in January, this
appears to be the first attempt to find out what the OAI/OTI is
thinking. In TAG's view, it is a positive step that they are at least
asking, but it is very little and VERY late. We wonder if Yahoo has
learned any lessons, or if they are so arrogant that they are still
convinced that they know best. TAG strongly recommends that all our
subscribers complete the survey.
