On 28 Jul at 06:02:09 PT users reported that they were receiving "This
function is currently unavailable" when trying to view items Cgi 6, cgi
3, My ebaY, and search, sellers search, were all reported down or
intermittent. At 06:38:12 PT ebaY reported that the Sports &
Collectibles categories were unavailable from 05:59 PT to 06:34 PT,
which was only partly true. The functions were working again at
06:44:53 PT, but at 06:45:45 PT view item and cgi ebaY were reported by
users as only intermittently available. At 09:59:51 PT ActiveX errors
were reported on the relist page. At 15:36:25 PT, users reported that
the Collectibles and Sports were not fixed. The Category updates were
missing large numbers of items. For example, Collectibles: Advertising
has 10437 items listed in the last 24 hours, but shows fewer than 100
new listings between 5:00 PT and 13:00 PT. At 17:15:27 PT users
noted
that the category update still did not capture most of the items listed
in Sports and Collectibles. At 18:34:30 PT Mister Lister was noted as
being down.
On 29 Jul 06:24:59 PT users reported they were unable to revise
auctions. At 06:37:09 PT it was notes that the Sports and Collectibles
categories had still not updated 24 hours later, with no "New Today"
items in any Sports or Collectible categories. At 08:13:40 PT ebaY
reported the feedback forum was down. Attempts to leave or view feedback
will return an error message. ebaY posted at 09:01:03 PT that the
feedback forum was unavailable from 07:35 PT to 08:50 PT. At 13:21:54
PT users reported cgi5, cgi3 were intermittently down, view auctions was
also intermittent. At 13:40:58 PT, users continued to report cgi5 still
intermittent. At 13:52:16 PT the Sports and Collectibles categories
were indexing again, 32 hours later. At 14:02:40 PT cgi 5 was again
down, completely search and seller search down were down, and about me
pages were intermittent. At 14:18:41 PT, ebaY posted that the
Sports
and Collectibles Categories were down again and at 14:53:07 PT that the
Sports and Collectibles Categories were intermittently unavailable from
14:10 PT until 14:45 PT. Users reported at 14:40:20 PT cgi6
and
cgi.ebay, and cgi3 were all not working. The functions were back up at
14:53:49 PT.
On 30Jul at 11:18:52 the archived items host down so there was no access
to completed items. Attempting to repair this necessitated taking
down
feedback, and relist. This was fixed at 11:56:04 PT with the feedback
system back at 13:06:29 PT. At 12:13:35 PT ebaY posted that completed
items was down from 11:13 PT to 11:32 PT, and intermittently available
from 11:32 PT to 11:50 PT, once again not having the whole truth, but
only part of the truth on the SAB. At 14:40:37 PT, the ebaY Discussion
Boards were down for emergency maintenance. They were noted by ebaY as
being back at 17:00 PT.

Don’t take no for an answer; keep requesting until you get them.
ebaY has changed their retraction and revise auction system. ebaY has
now put in place the following rules.
**If you place a bid before the final 12 hours of the listing you may
only retract that bid under exceptional circumstances, and you must
retract the bid before the last 12 hours of the listing. You will not be
allowed to retract a bid placed prior to the final 12 hours of the
listing during the last 12 hours of the listing.
**If you place a bid during the last 12 hours of a listing you will be
allowed to retract the bid for exceptional circumstances, but only if
you do so within one hour of placing the bid. You may still retract a
bid anytime before the last 12 hours if you have an exceptional reason
for doing so -- for example the seller materially changes the item's
description.
Sellers will not be able to add to their item's description during the
last 12 hours of the listing. Sellers will be unable to revise or add to
their description within the last 12 hours if there are existing bids on
the item; the seller will need to cancel bids and end the listing early
instead.

ebaY Pink Quote of the Day gwyneth@ebay at 15:20 PT on 30 Jul, in a post
non the workshop board about communications on ebaY (#24 of 84) said, "I
wouldn't necessarily say the most accurate place for infomation is the
DNF, xxxxxxxxx. :) I've seen a lot of inaccurate information posted on
the boards during technical situations - as well as some great
information. It's good to see what the users are experiencing, but it
may not be a totally accurate reflection of what's happening on the
site." If what is happening to users across the country on a wide
variety of systems, ISPs, connections and browsers is NOT an excellent
reflection of what is REALLY going on at ebaY, TAG does not know what
is.
For users having problems editing their About Me page, try using a
Netscape browser rather than Internet Explorer to access and edit the
page. Another possible solution, brought to us by a TAGnotes
subscriber, is to edit using Internet Explorer or even the AOL Browser.
Sellers have to wait for 3 minutes for the delay in HTML code transfer.
Once you open the page wait a full 3 minutes and then click on EDIT and
the EDIT page will load quickly and completely. The same applies after
EDITING. Make sure you wait 3 minutes before clicking SAVE and it
works.

The endless problems with ebaY picture services continue. Decline the
ActiveX control if asked and choose to opt to not use ebaY picture
services. Bypass the process altogether by going to
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowPhotoOption&page=167
This takes you to a listing page that skips over the ebaY image hosting.
Another route you can try is
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ListItemForSaleShow
And another subscriber provided alternative is to simply ignore the java
program/ActiveX
request and leave it as a window while listing. You should be able to
list items though the applet is neither accepted nor denied. For those
who cannot use the listing page without the picture-services option.
Once your listing is completed, deny the java program/ActiveX when you.
ebaY has a new game online called Monopoly. Each day, they're giving
away five special-edition ebaY electronic games, leading up to the grand
prize: a trip for two to Atlantic City! Go to
www.ebay.com/promo/monopolysweeps/, and then:
**CLICK on a category to browse in;
**BID on any item in the category;
**WIN! If you win your item, we'll send you a Secret URL.
**WIN MORE! Click on the secret URL to register for the sweepstakes.
