On 12 Jul ebaY's Billpoint went down at 11:32:31 PT. ebaY reported
at 12:10:22 PT that Billpoint was down from 11:16 PT to 12:00 PT.=20
On 13 Jul at 13:46:32 PT, ebaY posted that they had fixed the=20
problem with Mister Lister that caused sellers to have their store
listings turned into auctions. This glitch also caused these store=20
items to be charged at full auction listing prices. The problem=20
lasted over a week, and all sellers should request refunds for any=20
items affected by these problems. =20
On 14 Jul users reported at 06:25:55PT that the ebaY search function
was broken on Unix and other non-Microsoft browsers. The errors
occur on Linux and IRIX versions of Netscape. It looks like a=20
Java Script error but happens even when Java is enabled. Error=20
messages read "http://ads.web.aol.com/file/adsWrapper.js Not=20
Found The requested object does not exist on this server. The link=20
you followed is either outdated, inaccurate, or the server has been=20
instructed not to let you have it." ebaY knows about this problem
but they have not fixed it.=20
TO REQUEST REFUNDS from ebaY go to
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=3D33
Don't take no for an answer; keep requesting until you get them.
ebaY has changed what they were at first calling a Billpoint glitch=20
into a feature. In a reoccurring pattern, ebaY first claims a problem =
reported=20
to them does not exist, then that the problem is a glitch in the system, =
and=20
finally admit that it is intentional. ebaY is tricking users into using =
Billpoint=20
by using the unethical SPAMMERs tool of opt out on Billpoint rather than =
the ethical opt in. You can set your seller preferences to opt out, but =
do=20
not rely on this as a permanent solution. ebaY frequently resets user=20
preferences to benefit ebaY, so though you have opted out, at any time,=20
ebaY could opt you back in again. To set or update your preferences,=20
submit an item with the set your preferences box checked at the top of=20
the auction listing or relisting page, and make sure your options in the =
auction are set as you desire them.. This will set a cookie on your =
browser=20
to save your preferences. These references will be updated every time =
you=20
list or relist an item, with the cookie retaining the settings from the =
most=20
recent item. Of course this means you have to allow ebaY to maintain a=20
cookie on your computer, and ebaY's use of these permanent cookies is=20
ill defined, with little protection. TAG does not recommend ebaY be=20
allowed any permanent cookies on your computer, so you can either make=20
sure the settings on every listing and relisting are correct, or that =
you close=20
your Billpoint account to avoid all the Billpoint problems. Go to the =
editorial=20
on the TAG website to see all the reasons we object to ebaY's Billpoint =
in=20
its current state, and why TAG thinks you should cancel your account. =20
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=3D63
ebaY has a post on the SAB about password safety. They say that=20
you should not give out your password and User ID to anyone, but=20
recognize that some services require you do so. ebaY says that=20
when you disclose this information you are allowing another=20
individual or company to act on your behalf and you are responsible
for any action that third party takes on your behalf, including any=20
financial consequences that may occur. ebaY claims to have high
standards when it comes to your privacy and the information you=20
provide them, though ebaY has proved otherwise. As assurance
of the quality of their privacy and user agreements, ebaY points to
their membership in TrustE. TrustE has repeatedly proven itself=20
a completely worthless organization that does nothing to enforce
their policies. Their complete lack of action against ebaY in=20
the face of endless repetitions of violations is clear evidence of=20
this failure. To review ebaY's privacy policy go to =20
http://pages.ebay.com/help/community/png-priv.html.
ebaY posted on 12 Jul at 16:54:00 PT that Andale's auction service
was down. ebaY asks for patience with Andale and sellers using=20
Andale services.=20
Users continue to report difficulties getting past ebaY picture services =
while listing. =20
Decline the Active X control if asked and choose to opt to not use ebaY =
picture
services by going to=20
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowPhotoOption&page=3D167=20
This takes you to a listing page that skips over the ebaY image hosting=20
Another route you can try is=20
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ListItemForSaleShow
ebaY has changed the code in the ActiveX download in an attempt=20
to fix some of the issues with it. This download allows sellers to=20
use ebaY's features such as the ability to crop, rotate, and speed up=20
submissions of images. As a result of this change, ebaY will prompt
sellers using the enhanced version of ebaY pic services to download=20
a new control the next time they use ebaY pic services. ebaY will=20
prompt Netscape users with a Java Applet download. To accept the=20
download, click "grant" and "Remember this decision". If you do=20
not click "Remember this decision", you will be prompted with this
security message the first time you visit the ebaY pic services page=20
after launching a new Netscape session. ebaY will prompt Internet=20
Explorer with an Active X download. To accept the download, click
"yes" to begin downloading. As always TAG does NOT recommend
you use this service as you give ebaY an open doorway into your=20
system. ebaY has proven untrustworthy in the past, and they have
not added anything to their user or privacy agreements to insure=20
safe conduct in the future. =20
ebaY has added a multitude of new categories and made many changes
to existing categories. The changes in the clothing categories are=20
generating the bulk of user complaints and problems. To view
these posts go to the MAB at http://www2.ebay.com/aw/marketing.shtml
To find the category number for any ebaY category go to
http://listings.ebay.com/aw/listings/overview.html
ebaY still has not addressed the flashing banner ads, despite thousands =
of posts from buyers complaining about how they can no longer bid =
because the banners cause slow access. Is this issue going to be =
another "pattern" issue as noted in the Billpoint glitch?
TAG has noticed that the flashing banners are staying open even=20
longer than before. To eliminate these and all banner ads try these =
methods -=20
*Go to http://www.adsubtract.com and
download their software. =20
* Use a Netscape Browser
*Go to your Internet Explorer options, look under multimedia=20
and turn off the image option. When you search ebaY you won't
see any images including banner ads. If you want to view an image=20
on an auction, right click your mouse and select "show picture". =20
*Hold down the shift key when you hit your back button when
going from the item back to the search list, this should also=20
circumvent the flash ad. =20
*Follow the directions posted here
http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/rockboss2000@aol.com/=20
To turn off and opt out of ebaYs SPAM end of item notices that email=20
bottom feeding lists of items to losing bidders go to
http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?OptinLoginShow
and set the item that says 'End Of Item' notice to NO
=20
ebaY contact information including analog mail and email addresses=20
and phone numbers, regular and toll free, refund info and insider=20
trading info etc can be found at=20
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=3D17
5.47 Million Auctions inflated by 6% due to double category listings=20
yielding a count of 5.1 Million. ebaY. On 14 Jul 2000 ebaY had=20
4.62 Million auctions.

Amazon Auctions, zShops and Marketplace users reported that their
storefront display items were not rotating as they are supposed to. The =
reason=20
appears to be that the "Feature On Storefront" box is no longer checked. =
Sellers
will have to go through all their open listings one by one to correct =
this Amazon glitch.=20
On Fri 20 Jul, Amazon is doing a scheduled maintenance, so Auctions,=20
zShops and Amazon Marketplace will be unavailable for approximately=20
2 hours beginning at approximately 10:00pm PT. Auctions scheduled to=20
end during this time will be extended per Amazons outage policy.=20

Invenna announced that they are closing down. In an email to their=20
customers they announced they were ending most operations 1 Sep 01.
They cited an unforeseen revenue drop, continued losses, an increasing=20
amount of resources required to keep up with ebaY changes, the resulting =
support requirements, and an inability to retain unpaid employees. For=20
more information go to http://www.invenna.com/support/transition_faq.htm =
They will continue email support for AuctionAmigo paid users through 1 =
Aug. =20
They will try to keep updating to ebaY's ongoing changes until 1 Sep. =
To ease the transition from AuctionAmigo, Invenna has made special =
arrangements for all=20
paid users. ChannelFusion Pro and Auctiva will offer special discounts =
and=20
paid users will hear from Invenna regarding the services and specifics =

card association to respond immediately to resolve a charge back,=20
sellers must provide the information within 3 days. PayPal will tell=20
