On 9 Jul users reported intermittent slowness on the site starting at =
07:28:59 PT=20
with complaints continuing through 11:36:20 PT. At 12:23:57 PT search =
went down,=20
with problems continuing with slow and intermittently available search. =
At 13:25:32 PT
users reported site access problems, and as of 13:26:11 PT search was =
still not=20
working properly. At 18:15:27 PT users reported ebaY pic services down.

On 10 Jul at 06:56:36 PT Billpoint went down with problems reported
intermittently for several hours. At 11:50:28 PT users reported the site =
slow.
On 11 Jul there were some intermittent problems with site access, but =
the site=20
appeared to run as normal, with only the ongoing problems causing users =
difficulties.=20
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=3D32

After users reporting the glitch for three days, ebaY finally on 11 July =
posted=20
about a problem with 30 day listings, Mister Lister and ebaY Stores. =
When
trying to submit fixed price listings to their ebaY Store, Mister Lister =
converts
the listings from fixed price into 30 day auction listings, with no Buy =
It Now option.=20
Sellers are being charged full auction fees plus the 10 day fee. Sellers =
have to cancel=20
the auctions and request credit. Conversation about this can be found on =
ebaY at
http://forums.ebay.com/dws?50@120.0pxea3DpXY7^-@.eebab6c
In addition, TAG has been receiving reports from users that 10 day =
auctions are=20
disappearing from search after 7 days. Watch you auctions and request=20
refunds of your 10 cent 10 day fee for any auctions this happens to.

ebaY also posted on 11 Jul at 14:13:13 PT that though listing fees for =
ebaY Stores=20
fixed price items will be free through 1 Sep starting today, store =
sellers will see=20
a $.05 charge and a $.05 credit in their Account Status when they list =
Stores fixed=20
price items. CAUTION - track your items and make sure ebaY credits your=20
account for every item. ebaY has been known to not provide the correct =
amount=20
of refunds unless sellers have records to prove the discrepancies.

TAG finds it very interesting how ebaY manages to manipulate all these =
refunds=20
so they appear as "promotion" charges which we are led to understand are
handled differently in the quarterly filings. Free listing day, the =
store fee refunds=20
and probably even the listing fee glitch in Mister Lister will all be =
used to inflate=20
ebaYs profitability on their quarterly reports. Amazing coincidence how =
these=20
things just happen to occur just prior to the reports to stockholders.
ebaY will be down for regularly scheduled maintenance from 01:00 PT=20
to 03:00 PT on Fri 13 Jul. Billpoint will also be down during the same =
time frame.=20

TO REQUEST REFUNDS from ebaY go to
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=3D33
Don't take no for an answer; keep requesting until you get them.

ebaY has made some changes to their stores.
* on all stores category directory pages, there is now a link to "view =
stores by=20
store name", which provides an alphabetical list of all stores within =
the category
* stores with no items (either auction or store buy it now items) will =
not appear in the=20
directory -- this allows sellers to set up their stores before visitors =
arrive and also
prevents buyers from visiting empty stores;
* ebaY has removed the count of stores next to the categories so they =
can inflate
the store numbers as they chose, necessitating physical counts
* stores are sorted in the directory by highest number of listings, so =
that buyers can=20
find stores with the greatest inventory in a specific category, giving =
an unfair=20
advantage to commercial sites and adding to the lack of a level playing =
field.

Users continue to report difficulties getting past ebaY picture services =
while listing.=20
Decline the Active X control if asked and choose to opt to not use ebaY =
picture=20
services by going to=20
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ShowPhotoOption&page=3D167=20
This takes you to a listing page that skips over the ebaY image hosting =
Another route=20
you can try is=20
http://cgi5.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ListItemForSaleShow

To find the category number for any ebaY category go to
http://listings.ebay.com/aw/listings/overview.html

The ebaY flash banner ads continue, despite promises from ebaY=20
that they are going to end these banner ads. ebaY posted again about =
these=20
flashing ads on 10 Jul at 11:27:06 PT. Posts on the chat boards sound as =
if it=20
might take weeks for ebaY to retract this advertising debacle. For =
solutions=20
you can try -=20
*Go to http://www.adsubtract.com and download their software. This=20
will stop you having to view banner ads, and will also protect you=20
from unwanted cookies, and other even more invasive files planted=20
on your computer.=20
* Use a Netscape Browser
*Go to your Internet Explorer options, look under multimedia=20
and turn off the image option. When you search ebaY you won't
see any images including banner ads. If you want to view an image=20
on an auction, right click your mouse and select "show picture".=20
*Hold down the shift key when you hit your back button when
going from the item back to the search list, this should also=20
circumvent the flash ad.=20
*Follow the directions posted here
http://members.ebay.com/aboutme/rockboss2000@aol.com/=20

To turn off and opt out of ebaYs SPAM end of item notices that email=20
bottom feeding lists of items to losing bidders go to
http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?OptinLoginShow
and set the item that says 'End Of Item' notice to NO

ebaY contact information including analog mail and email addresses=20
and phone numbers, regular and toll free, refund info and insider=20
trading info etc can be found at=20
http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=3D17

5.21 Million Auctions inflated by 6% due to double category listings=20
yielding a count of 4.9 Million. ebaY. If auction numbers continue to
remain flat despite the increase of corporate partner listings, expect =
to see=20
another free listing day prior to the next quarters reports in =
September.=20
On 10 Jul 2000 ebaY had 4.41 Million auctions.

Andale/Honesty, in a move that many users are viewing as a nightmare
have finally completely assimilated the Honesty site into Andale. Posts =
flooded=20
the chat boards as auction counters and images disappeared off auctions, =
and=20
site access and navigation was reported by users as being so difficult =
they were=20
leaving for other service providers. Users reported that emails to =
Andale=20
customer support garnered responses that said that Andale would not =
provide=20
customer service for non-paying users. For those users no longer able to =
view=20
their counter statistics, these instructions were posted by a user on =
one of the=20
OAI/OTI chat boards. -
To view your counters - Login in to the Andale site Click on Setup, =
Click on=20
Auctions, Click Market profile, Enter your email and password and click=20
Save, Click on "Track" (the one that's on the bar near the top of the =
screen) and=20
then click on "Counters" (not the one listed by "Tools") and "View =
Counters" -=20
statistics are all there on currently running auctions.

Andale has three packages a very limited $8.95 a month for 3MB of image=20
space and 40 listings with tracking; $39.95/month, plus 2.3% Checkout =
fee
per item for 10 MB and 275 listings and other services, $5 max; and=20
$169.95/month, plus 2.3% Checkout fee per item, $5 max 100 MB 2,750=20
Listings and other services. They also have a downloadable product with =
a=20
separate pricing scheme http://www.andale.com/corp/products/desktop.html

In what has always appeared to TAG to be a sign of desperation, rather =
than=20
the clean more professional site it had, Andale has resorted to cutesy =
icons.=20
The freedom to sell everywhere motto appears to TAG to be absurd as the=20
only sites serviced are ebaY, Yahoo and Amazon. Users report that Andale =

products are not compatible with WebTV.=20
