ebaY is hosting a live Furniture and Decorative Arts sale on ebaY
Premier Live Auctions. The auction begins at 10:00 PT on 20 Mar.
This will be an auction of American & European Furniture, 20th
Century Decorative Arts. Preview this and other upcoming live
auction ebaY Premier Live Auctions by at
http://www.ebayliveauctions.com/

ebaY appears to have extended their free trial of Seller Assistant
and Seller Assistant Pro to three months. They have a post on the
threaded boards that says "Special Offer for Mister Lister Users!
Track and store sales info, generate invoices, automatically fill in
user feedback, and much more with eBay Seller's Assistant!
Try it Free for 90 days! " But you must have MisterLister
downloaded on your computer or you are only offered a free 30 day
trial.

Users continued to complain about intermittent problems with
relisting, and the relist credit acknowledgement page.

Pink Quote of the Day Daphne@ebaY Sat, 17 Mar 2001 17:01:57 PT
on the thread about Fee Avoidance said, "Hello folks,
I'm sorry we've been confusing tonight on the subject of selling to the
second bidder. Here is the official scoop: Yes, absolutely yes, you can
still offer the item to a second bidder, if the high bidder backs out.
You will have to use the email forwarding system to do this, but it's
not considered SPAM or fee avoidance. The problems pertaining to this
type of transaction are that these sales aren't covered under standard
eBay features like automatic insurance, feedback, etc. SO.. what we have
been suggesting to members is that they consider relisting using
Buy-IT-NOW with a BIN price at whatever the seller/second bidder agree
upon. I realize this means the seller pays an addition listing fee, so
for that reason it's not optimal, but probably a better way to go for an
expensive item, or if your buyer is concerned about engaging in a
transaction where they won't have insurance, etc. I have heard that we
are working on a BETTER solution to this problem. I can't say more than
this right now, but keep an eye on the Announcements board. We know this
is a problem for sellers, and we're working to resolve it." TAG finds
the last part of this quote the most scary, and the suggestion to pay
double listing fees, scurrilous. The alleged protections offered by
ebaY are absurd at best.

ebaY is hosting a discussion on 18 Mar from 15:00 PT to 20:00 PT
ebaY members Cherbear will be presenting Things I Wish I'd Known
When I Started Selling On ebaY, on the Auction Listings Help Board.
On Wed 21 Mar Jim Griffith also known under his various ebaY Ids
and personalities as Dale/Griff/Uncle Griff/Aunt Flo is hosting a
workshop titled the History of ebaY on The Park Discussion Board
from 15:00 PT to 19:00 PT . One of ebaY's first members, and the
first Customer Service rep, Griff now works for ebaY's public relations
department, where his title is "Ambassador to the World". Griff will
present a history of ebaY. TAG thinks it will be interesting to see
which version of ebaY history is presented - and hope long time ebaY
members will be there with the 'real' rather than the PR fantasy
version.

BidVille.Com appears to be rivaling Yahoo in numbers, AND bid ratios.
BidVille offers a TrackPal which allows users to control items bought
and sold, including Rapid Relist of Closed Items, and an option to
selectively Blacklist Bidders. BidVille also recently implemented a
threaded message board, including an announcement board.
Tag feels the search engine is inadequate, particularly as it has no
description search, and only accommodates up to 3,000 items. The
search engine also performed slowly.
Approx 450,000 auctions with a 30% bid rate on closed auctions, and
less than a 1% bid rate on current auctions indicating that a majority
of sales are purchased at a Take It price.
