ebaY users reported problems with Billpoint for most of the day.
To start with there was a bad code problem in the Billpoint section
on auctions offering Billpoint that made the logo half a page wide,
distorting the auction page. This same problem caused Netscape
users, which is very intolerant of coding errors, to not be able to
view auction pages containing the bad code. In addition, when
the auction closed, all the information disappeared when
viewed by Netscape browser. Users who could switch to IE
were able to view the item. ebaY knew and acknowledged the
problem to their 'voices' members during a conference call, and
said they put a fix in place by 18:30, but that it would take an
hour take affect. There were no posts about the problem on the AB.

ebaY will conduct an extended regularly scheduled maintenance
on Fri morning 9 March 01:00 PT and 04:00 PT. If you have
auctions ending between 03:00 and 04:00 PT, you might want to
end them early and request refunds. As always, indexing cycles
can be expected to be delayed even more than normal through
the weekend.

For information and links to request refunds on ebaY go to

ebaY's is running a contest for buyers using Billpoint to pay for their
ebaY items. Where sellers offer Billpoint as a payment option,
bidders get an entry in the contest when they use ebaY Billpoint to
buy an item between 7 March and 6 April. There are 100 Prizes,
and a grand prize of $10,000. For more info go to

ebaY is changing the feedback system. The changes will allow
Members to leave follow up comments without waiting for responses;
show the number of feedbacks left by repeat customers; show
separate buyer and seller feedback; and control some of the comments
that can be left for negative and neutral feedback. In TAGs view it was
unfortunate that ebaY failed to address the most important issues
raised by users. Those issues were receiving unjustified retaliatory
feedback, particularly in deadbeat bidder situations; removal of
unjustified feedback; the ability to edit ones own feedback; and the
ability to sort and view negatives and neutrals. Fortunately there is a
tool for taking care of the latter at http://www.vrane.com/ef.html
To review a summary of the feedback revision plan go to

Pink Quote of the Day - When asked about the day long problems
with Billpoint coding and why there were no posts on the AB
about it, the Customer Service Reps said, "                           "
Yes, that is what they said - exactly nothing!

Amazon Auctions, zShops and Marketplace -
The link to leave feedback for bidders continues to be missing
from zShops.

Amazon owned Bibliofind sent email to their users today about
the security violation on its site that compromised the security of
some customers' credit card information. Bibliofind has removed
all customer credit card information, physical addresses, and
phone numbers from their servers as a future precaution. If you
had a credit card registered with Bibliofind, you should take
contact your credit card holder to insure it has not been stolen.

ChannelFusion/GoTo Auctions/AuctionRover users reported problems
today with end of auction emails not reaching all buyers. The worst
of these problems appear to be with AOL email addresses, but other
email services were also being negatively impacted, such as cs.com,
gateway.com, mediaone.com, cfu.net etc. Posts by GoTo personnel
on their discussion boards reflect that they have no idea what the scope
of the problem is or how to correct it, though they are working on it.
GoTo personnel suggested that users take steps to contact AOL to
complain, though the problem is not limited to AOL. The biggest
problem TAG sees with this, is that users are contracted with and
paying fees to ChannelFusion for these services, not AOL, so if there
is any ISP contacting required it should be ChannelFusion that does it.
