****** CORRECTION*****
The start time of the listing problem reported in yesterdays TAGnotes
was an error of interpreting what was believed to be Central Time but
turned out to be Pacific Time. Users reported the problems starting at
10:39:45 PT, not 08:49 PT.

To review the ebaY OUTAGES and problems from 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 14,
16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22 February go to http://www.auctionguild.com/

*PINK Quote of the Day* On the Mister Lister board where users were
complaining about the reoccurring problems with the program and ebaY,
Jerry@ebaY 24 Feb 2001 06:09:45 -0800 said, "eBay is one of those
companies that everyone loves to hate. While there are those who jump
up and down screaming bloody murder, they keep coming back year
after year. There should be no doubt about the resilience of the eBay
marketplace. As Rex Moore wrote in a recent article on Fool.com
"It's over--eBay is the winner. No other online auction site will ever
again pose a serious challenge (if any ever did), much less actually
overtake it. Not Yahoo, not Amazon.com. Barring some major,
unforeseen change in the way consumer-to-consumer e-commerce is
transacted, it's game, set, and match to eBay." I believe this is true,
and that eBay will continue to develop its rapport with buyers and
seller alike."
TAG thinks this is an interesting attitude, very indicative of the
philosophy on which ebaY bases its treatment of its users.

For the last three days there has been a hacker on most or all of the
HTML enabled ebaY chat boards. Green slime, blank pages and
diversions to other pages appeared to be the hallmarks of this
particular hacker.

For workarounds to ebaY's email system and attempt at exclusive
agency go to http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=50

Billpoint is adding features. Users will be able to download sales
and deposit information to financial software such as Microsoft
Excel. For more info go to http://www.billpoint.com/help/sellerguide/
managing_account.html#DOWNLOAD

Starting the week of 5 March sellers will no longer need to send
invoices. Buyers can pay for their items with a credit card or an
electronic check by entering the additional shipping, handling, and
sales tax costs as specified by sellers. This feature will be
automatically enabled for all items listed with ebaY online payments
unless otherwise specified by sellers in the Preferences section in My
Billpoint. For more info go to
https://www.billpoint.com/account/preferences

ebaY has attempted to answer email system questions raised by users.
*Does ebaY screen, review, read, block or in any way monitor the
content of the messages sent by our users?
No. ebaY will not read, screen, nor edit any email sent through the
email forwarding system. They will not prevent a message from being
forwarded based on content. They only forward the messages. Further,
they do not store the contents of the message.

*Will ebaY reduce the number of clicks it takes to send a message
through the new email system?
Yes. Under certain circumstances there are too many clicks or steps
involved in contacting another member. They are trying to reduce the
number of steps involved in the system.

*If ebaY sends all the messages why didn’t my message get through?
After they launched the feature, they discovered spam filtering
software blocking messages sent through the system, i.e., a message
sent through ebaY's system might be blocked as spam. They are
changing the way their system sends the email messages to address
this issue and ebaY hopes to have the change in place in the next
few days.

*What if I am not able to contact my winning bidder? What if I
cannot contact the seller after winning an item?
Winning bidders and sellers of completed auctions should never
have to use the ebaY email forwarding system. The seller and the
winning bidder both have access to each others’ email addresses
in numerous places, e.g., Closed Item page, Bid History page, Dutch
Winning Bidders page, Seller Search, Bidder Search, Pending
Feedback tool, My ebaY Details, and End of Auction notices.
Those addresses are available by clicking on the User ID or by
selecting the Display Email Address Preference in My ebaY and
signing in.

An earthquake in Seattle, Washington, may delay communication,
delivery of items, or payments being sent to buyers or sellers in this
area. If you are transacting business with ebaY members located in this
region, be aware of these circumstances which could produce
delays beyond the control of your transaction partner.

ebaY Contact Information, analog mail and email addresses and
phone numbers, regular and toll free.

When we asked Yahoo about linking to a seller's website, Yahoo
answered "You may include a link to your homepage
from your auctions as long as you are actually selling the item on
Yahoo! auctions, and the information on your site is related to the item
you are selling." We are seeking further clarification.

Andale/Honesty has a problem with WebTV users. Since the Honesty
image hosting now requires users to register payment information, the
security system Honesty is using is incompatible with WebTV. They
are currently looking into how to translate the billing page into an
extra-secure format that is compatible with WebTV and also appear to
be evaluating if it is cost effective to bother. Their recommended short
term fix is for WebTV users to find a PC to enter their billing
information (library, cyber cafe, friend etc.). Once the billing
information is entered all the other Image Hosting features will work
with WebTV. Based on a users suggestion, TAG recommended to
Andale/Honesty that they allow their users to call in the information,
to be entered by Andale/Honesty personnel.
