*PINK Quote of the Day* As all the glitches in ebaYs new internal
email program start to emerge, it appears that ebaYs alleged attempt
to reduce SPAM is being considered to BE SPAM by many ISP email
services, and the ISPs are blocking those emails from reaching you.
On the threaded boards Katy@ebaY Mon, 26 Feb 2001 04:41:06 -0800
said, "I'm sorry to hear you are not receiving your emails. I know
how essential this is to your business and I hope I can help. Please
check to see whether you have spam filters set in your own email
program or whether your ISP is filtering spam before it reaches you.
It is quite possible that this is the problem and this email is being
filtered as spam because it does not have a designated addressee in
the "send to" field. If you have filters on, check to see if your email

is going into a separate folder or your recycle bin."
The net result of this new ebaY program is that ebaY users may need
to turn OFF their SPAM filters and/or request their ISPs to turn off
SPAM filtering systems so that ebaY users can receive emails from each
other.   TAG feels that this is insane, and ebaY should back off, take
the system down and figure out a fix to this system BEFORE they inflict
it further on their users.

For workarounds to ebaY's email system and attempt at exclusive
agency go to http://www.auctionguild.com/generic.html?pid=50

ebaY has once again changed their policy and are now allowing
new registrants to change their user id to their email address as
soon as they have completed the registration process.

****** CORRECTION *******
Blackthorn license holders are fighting back against the fraud they
feel is being perpetrated on them by Blackthorne and ebaY. ebaY
users bought the Blackthorne software with the *perception* that they
would not only receive lifetime upgrades at no extra charge, but
that Blackthorne would make it compatible with other auction sites.
ebaY now owns Blackthorne and plans on requiring users to pay
a monthly fee to use the software. The *perceived* lifetime upgrade
promise has now been turned into a one year use at no extra fee.
Blackthorne users have posted on ZDNET, warning would be
purchasers that buying the full fee software license at over $200
will only net them one year of use of the software, something
Blackthorne has NOT warned these buyers about. ZDNET links

*These links are for Auction Ticker and Auction Assistant, and
are being used by Blackthorne software owners to warn others
off purchasing Blackthorne software*

*Users of ebaY Seller’s Assistant Basic and Seller's Assistant Pro
formerly known as Blackthorne Auction Assistant Classic and
Auction Assistant Pro will NOT be required to use ebaYs iPix
service. Though this will be an OPTION for users, they can still
use their own image services.*

TAG wants to know why Blackthorne/ebaY continues to sell their
Auction Assistant and Auction Assistant Pro software WITHOUT
informing buyers that the product they are paying full price for is
only for a ONE YEAR license, and that after the first year will be
charged a monthly fee to continue to use the product.
Blackthorne currently claims that 5% of auctions listed on ebaY
use their software.

Ever wonder how to LEAVE ebaY or close an inactive account?
They don't make it obvious, but there is information on the site that
can be found at http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/closedAccount.html
Use the form at http://pages.ebay.com/help/basics/select-support.html
to make the request. It takes the exchange of 5 emails - 2 from the
user and three from ebaY. There is a waiting period of 60 days in
the US and 90 days for International accounts. If your account has
no activity within the last 60-90 days, it may be closed within a
much shorter period of time.

Favorite searches will replace Personal Shopper beginning this week.
Users can still delete, view, and receive emails on existing Personal
Shopper searches until they expire, but can't change, edit or add new
ones. Favorite searches are dependent on My ebaY once again adding
to its critical feature status that should trigger automatic refunds
whenever it is down. For info on favorite searches go to
http://pages.ebay.com/help/buyerguide/favorite_searches.html

ebaY has added a basic picture service that does not require the
ActiveX or other download. TAG has always strongly objected to
the requirement of the ActiveX file, and it is good to see ebaY
responding to the objections. For more info on ebaY pic services

BidPay users appear to be running into some problems. Sellers
have reported not receiving their money orders. BidPay says that
once a seller receives the second confirmation of a payment, that
the seller will be paid regardless of any problems that arise, so the
seller should ship then. Unfortunately it now appears that there are
some problems with this process, so TAG recommends that a seller
NOT ship until they have the money order in hand. Sellers should
add this caveat to their listings, so buyers are informed.
