ebaY beginning the week of 26 Feb 01 will begin rolling out a new
coding methodology on some of their Web pages. ebaY says that
this change will not affect the appearance of the pages nor will it
affect site stability.   ebaY made the announcement to provide third
party developers adequate time to make changes.
For more info go to http://pages.ebay.com/preview/sitechanges.html

ebaY is trying to buy Ibazar, a French online auction house. ebaY
is allegedly offering 93 mil in stock. ebaY recently paid $120 mil
in cash to buy a controlling interest in a Korean online auction site.
Ibazar cancelled their scheduled IPO late last year due to unfavorable
market conditions. Ibazar has approx 310,000 items listed on the site.

PINK Quote of the Day
From the TAG Archives - a quote from the original Pink himself
Pierre Omyidar 22 Aug 1999 in reference to the 'new' reserve
auction fees. " While nobody likes new fees, we hope this will
discourage unnecessary use of the feature, which will give buyers
more no-reserve auctions to choose from. And for sellers who still
need to use the format, the additional cost will help support our
additional expenses. And finally, it's only a dollar -- hopefully,
you'll get an extra dollar for your item if you use the reserve auction
format." And this from the man who received several billion dollars due
to the efforts of the dedicated ebaY community, on whose backs the
company was built. The company who did not then and still
does not spend the money needed to achieve site stability, the
problem that forces sellers to use reserves in the first place.

Title search is currently running approx 2 hours behind, title and
description search is running approx 12.5 hours behind. To see
a pattern of lag times, demonstrating the time it takes from listing,
to the item showing up in search, go to

ebaY has a dozen ongoing problems that ebaY has NOT fixed. These
problems are still negatively affecting users. To review the list go to

Approx 5.14 mil auctions inflated by approx 6% due to double
category listings yielding 4.83 mil auctions

Yahoo Auction still has not responded to questions about their
refund policy. We did get a response of sorts that told us that if an
error was made in an auction that required it to be cancelled, Yahoo
would not refund the listing fees. We have tried again, and sent yet
another message. http://user.auctions.yahoo.com/html/guidelines.html

Yahoo PayDirect system was reported by users as being down
on 11 Feb 01.

Story on Yahoo Auctions decline

Yahoo is playing hardball in spite of its rapidly declining site. TAG
has had reports from users that their auctions are being ended and
accounts cancelled (including deleting credit balances in accounts)for
infringements that the Yahoo robot picks up as a violation. If the
robot interprets information incorrectly, it does not matter, the
auctions, seller and accounts are cancelled anyway. In addition the new
Yahoo TOS states that your auction account can be
cancelled, and you can be removed from the site, if you do not
list on the site for longer that 3 months.

Yahoo expressly reserves the right to, but has no duty to, refuse,
reject or remove any listing in Yahoo's sole discretion.
You acknowledge and agree that Yahoo has the right to immediately
modify, suspend or terminate any listings or your account and refuse
current or future use of any Yahoo service if Yahoo, in its sole
discretion, believes you have: (i) violated or tried to violate the
rights of others; or (ii) have acted inconsistently with the spirit or
letter of these additional terms or any document incorporated by
reference, including, without limitation, the Yahoo! Auctions
Guidelines. Your Yahoo! Auctions account may be terminated if you do
not use this service at least one time during a reasonable period of
time (as determined by Yahoo) which will not be less than three months.
