ebaY reversed its restriction and is going to allow new users to use
their email address as their User ID for now. After a user registers
with a User ID "nickname" they can then go back and change their
User ID to their email address. ebaY has even added a note to the
change User ID block that says QUOTE * You can also use your
email address. ENDQUOTE ebaY will also continue to allow an email
link and /or address to be placed in sellers auciton descriptions.

Katy@ebay stated on the DNF board today in reference to the email
changes that "The main purpose is so that no one DOES interfere with
the auctions, or use member information for other than legitimate
eBay business purposes." This is a major change in ebaY's policy, as
the purpose of communication between members on the site used to be
community building.

ebaY is doing away with the Business Exchange, and replacing it
with the Business, Office & Industrial page. For now, the
categories will appear within the categories listed in Everything
Else. Listings and sales in the business categories were limited, no
longer justifying a separate ebaY site. Eventually, ebaY will create
a Business, Office & Industrial category.

ebaY is replacing the current IT Solutions Theme Page with a
Networking and I.T. page.   The categories relating to
Networking and I.T. products are in the Computers categories.

This month ebaY is revising the Dolls & Bears category index page.
ebaY will not move bear items from Collectibles into Dolls & Bears
for one month. Dolls & Bears page is at

ebaY is splitting the Photo and Electronics Category. This is
scheduled to take place in March 2001. ebaY will divide the
category index page into a Consumer Electronics Category
Index Page that will include Consumer Electronics, Electronic
Games, PDAs and Video Equipment, and a Photo Category Index
Page that will include Photo Equipment and Photo Images.

ebaY is changing the general Toys category to include Hobbies &
Crafts. They plan to create a virtual Hobby Shop. Toys, Bean Bag
Plush will be renamed to Toys & Hobbies. Hobbies & Crafts will appear
on a separate page. The Toys, Bean Bag Plush page will continue to
look much as it does now. Hobbies & Crafts page will include RR
Models, Trains and Art Supplies from the Collectibles category index
page; Models, Slot Cars, and More Hobbies from the Toys category index
page; and Arts & Crafts and Needlecraft from the Everything Else
category index page. ebaY will not move the items for a month.

ebaY has changed search, so that when you run a search on an item,
and go from current search to completed search, there is no longer
a link from completed search back to current search. In general your
browser back button will work to remedy this problem.

Title search is currently running approx 3 hours behind, title and
description search is running approx 10 hours behind. To see
a pattern of lag times, demonstrating the time it takes from listing,
to the item showing up in search, go to
http://www.geocities.com/codclass/content/lag.html

TAG continues to get reports that the ongoing ebaY problems are
still affecting users. To review the list go to

New listing fees go into effect 31 Jan.

TAG recommends that whenever ebaY users feel that ebaY
has not provided the service paid for, and ebaY refuses to refund fees
you file a complaint with the FTC. If you have complaints
about what you feel might be restraint of trade policies, this would
also be one appropriate place to file a complaint.

We will follow up.

Amazon Auction is changing Auctions, zShops and the Marketplace. The
changes will apply to all sellers and will take effect on 15 Feb.
* Amazon.com Payments registration will be required for all sellers
On 15 Feb, Amazon.com requires all sellers to offer Amazon.com
Payments. All sellers must register for Payments prior to 15 Feb.
They will retroactively convert eligible listings to accept Payments
for all new Amazon.com Payments registrants. They will cancel
all zShop listings not converted to Amazon.com Payments on 15 Feb.
Auction listings not converted to Amazon.com Payments will not be
relisted on or after 15 Feb.
a) In order to be eligible for Amazon.com Payments, sellers must
have access to a U.S. billing address and a U.S. checking account.
b) Alternative payment methods including, but not limited to, check,
money order, and escrow may still be offered and accepted.
c) Transactions over $2,500 are not eligible for Amazon.com
Payments. Therefore, items sold above that amount will require
an alternative payment method. Sellers of such items must
still register for Amazon.com Payments.
To learn more about Amazon.com Payments, go to
http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/subst/selling/payments-start.html
Register for a Payments account at
http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/easypay-login
* The Inventory Loader will replace the Bulk Loader for U.S.
Marketplace and zShops Sellers. Amazon Marketplace and zShops sellers
will be required to use Amazon.com's Inventory Loader for multiple
listings, rather than the Bulk Loader. To learn more about the new
Inventory Loader go to
http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/subst/seller-admin/inventory-
uploader-main.html
The Bulk Loader will remain available for U.S. Auctions sellers only. To
learn more about the Bulk Loader go to
http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/subst/selling/bulk/bulk-loading.html
* "Relist" will no longer be needed in zShops as listings on zShops will
remain active until they sell, or until they are cancelled.
Merchandising fees will be effected as follows:
a) Bold listings will be billed on a two-week cycle. Sellers will be
charged $2.00 per item every two weeks for the Bold feature.
b) Bid for Featured Placement listings will also be billed on a two-week
cycle.
NOTE: This change will not affect Auctions sellers.
* The zShops "Closed Listings" will be removed from Seller Account
With the removal of relisting, items will now close only when sold or
cancelled. There will still be a "Closed Listings" section for Auctions.

* Open-Listing Reports will be enhanced and Sellers on zShops will be
able to download an open-listings report that will contain important
information about listings (including item description for easier
searching, sorting, and reloading).
* Global seller preferences will be enabled so that when Seller
Preferences for zShops are changed, such as Customer Service
Policy or shipping ZIP code, the changes go into effect immediately
and affect ALL open and future listings.
NOTE: Changes to Seller Preferences will only apply to Auction listings
posted after the change is made.

Amazon marketplace was reported by users to be down on 29 to 30 Jan
for at least 24 hours. It was reported back up 30 Jan at 11:38 PT, but
there were continuing problems reported. All sellers are shown as
"I'm new" with no feedback. Sellers noted several errors in marketplace
payments, including no shipping credit. Items were
put in zShops instead if the Marketplace where they were listed,
so items were not eligible for Marketplace shipping rebates.

Amazon now has a Seller Announcements board, though the information
posted on it is not comprehensive.
