ebaY on 22 Jan, had an outage that lasted over 6 hours. ebaY posted
that the site had a complete crash as of 02:40 PT. At 04:38:55 PT
ebaY stated that they would extend all auctions affected by the
outage including those ending within 1 hour after the outage. At
05:03:31 PT ebaY posted that the site had been down between
02:40 PT and 05:00 PT. Users reported the site came back up for
a few minutes but went down again at 05:45:56PT. At 06:43:52 PT
users were still reporting the site down. At 06:48:29 PT, ebaY
reported Seller Search, Bidder Search and Bid History were down.
Users reported that My ebaY was also down, and the Watch list
unavailable, rendering it impossible for bidders to find items they
were bidding on. TAG considers My ebaY to be a critical feature
because of the Watch feature, and any feature that being down,
prevents bidding, a hard outage. At 08:12:25 PT ebaY posted that
Seller Search, Bidder Search and Bid History were restored at
07:45 PT. Users reported these functions as being down through
08:44:28 PT. At 18:56:16 PT user reported cgi5 down, but this
problem appears to have only lasted a few minutes. There continued
to be some complaints of site slowness throughout the evening.

Yahoo Auction was reported by users as being down at 08:12:06 AM
on 21 Jan. Sellers could not access their auctions to revise, feature
or otherwise manage the auction, buyers could not bid. All received
"Could not access auction. Please try again later" messages.
The site was back up at approx 12:27 PT.

We wrote to Yahoo and asked about refunds and extensions, and
received the following answer -
"Yahoo! always strives to ensure a quality Auctions experience for all
participants. We apologize for any inconvenience that this downtime may
have caused you. If members are unable to bid for more than 2 hours
during your auction, you will receive credit for your listing fee. If
the site is down at the end of your auction, it will automatically be
extended to allow users to place final bids. If you continue to have
difficulty with your auction, please feel free to let us know, including
specific details and we'll be happy to assist you."

TAG recommends you check your Yahoo account
If you have questions about receiving outage credits you can call
Yahoo at (408) 530-5151 between 8am and 6pm Mon-Fri PT.

For those who use Yahoo's bulk uploader, you can still list auctions
for 14 days when using this utility, giving you 4 more days for
your listing fee that you don't get listing items individually.

Amazon sent an email to some sellers stating that all merchants are
required to register for Amazon.com Payments. Information
on the Amazon web site has not been updated to reflect this change.
Register for Amazon.Com Payments go to
http://s1.amazon.com/exec/varzea/easypay-login/
It appears that since Amazon payments are restricted to the US only
a seller must have a US based bank account in order to sell on Amazon.
