ebaY users have reported occasional items showing up on search
lists as HTML instead of with the normal title. TAG has not been
able to duplicate this problem, though we have seen several reports
of it. Barring the dozen non functioning or disabled features on ebaY
noted in previous issues of TAGnotes, ebaY ran well on 15 and 16 Dec.

ebaY has posted what they are calling an update on ebaY’s shill
bidding prevention efforts.   They define shill bidding, a violation
of the ebaY user agreement, as the deliberate placing of bids to
artificially raise the price of an item. ebaY's punishment when a
member is confirmed to have shill bid is a 30 day suspension.
Subsequent violations will result in an indefinite suspension.
ebaY says they have a shill bidding detection tool that analyzes
bidding patterns over multiple listings and tools that analyze
listings and registration data for patterns indicative of shill bidding.
They also feel that the revisions of Bid History and Bidder Search
provide users with better tools to understand bidding by displaying and
providing the ability to sort Bidder Search by the seller ID. Changes
under consideration include enhanced member verification and limits to
the number of accounts per member.

ebaY has changed the code of the picture services program. This
will require those who use the service to download the new version.
TAG does not recommend using ebaYs pic services due to the
requirement to download an ActiveX/Java file to use it.

General Motors and ebaY have signed a marketing agreement whereby
GM will buy advertising on ebaY and also do joint ventures on and off
the internet. General Motors agreed to be the exclusive auto sponsor for
live events for ebaY's Kruse International collectible cars. GM will
also offer services on ebaY Motors. The companies also plan online
events that may include live chats with celebrities and dedicated Web
pages for popular GM brands such as the Corvette and HMV. TAG has long
believed that ebaY is seeking a buyer in GM. GM has had an agreement
with ebaY to provide inspection services for ebaYs car sales. We see
this expansion of ebaY's involvement with GM as further testing of the
ebaY waters by GM. To see an article on this go to
