ebaY's account and other problems on 22 and 23 Sep appear to
have caused some auctions ending on 22 and possibly 23 Sep to be
charged twice for Final Value Fees. TAG recommends you check
your ebaY account to insure you were not double charged for items.
If you were, request a credit from ebaY from the form at
http://cgi3.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?
SendSupportEmailShow&subject=Credit%20--%20How%20can
%20I%20receive%20credit%20for%20insertion%20fees%3F%20
Send -
* The item number(s) of the ended auction(s)
* The specific fee(s) charged for them
* Your seller's email address or User ID
* The phrase, GIVE CREDIT in the Subject line

ebaY will be down for scheduled maintenance from 01:00 PT
to 05:00 PT on 29 Sep.

ebaY worked well for the last two days, with only the most
minor and transitory glitches.

ebaY has 15 redesigned category index pages. There are separate
category index pages for Books, Movies, Music, Coins and Stamps.
ebaY is planning promotions and events around each of the new
categories. New pages are at

ebaY acknowledged that for the last couple of months there have
been problems with leaving feedback comments on some transactions.
They claim their Engineering and Customer Support teams have
been working around the clock to fix these problems. As of 28 Sep,
they claim most of the problems have been fixed. If you are still
unable to leave comments related to a transaction, you may continue
to contact ebaY at feedbac-@ebay.com. Their goal is to solve
individual problems within 24-48 hours

ebaY has changed the Feedback Forum so that you can review
up to 500 feedback comments on one page. They also added selection
radio buttons to view 50, 100, 200, or 500 feedback comments to
the bottom of the Feedback Profile page. Users have frequently
requested the ability to sort by feedback type - pos/neut/neg, but ebaY
has not seen fit to add this much needed feature. For a convenient
feedback tool created by an OAI service provider go to
http://www.vrane.com/ef.html

ebaY has a long post about Half.Com, purchased in July.
ebaY feels that Half.com is complementary to ebaY. They
feel Half.com’s model is uniquely suited for buying and
selling retail-oriented items that do not fluctuate much in price.
ebaY is promoting Half.Com through banner ads, emails and
promotional buttons on the site. Half.com has been promoting
eBay actively on their site. For example, users who search for
something on Half.com that is not in stock are prompted to search for
it on eBay. Starting 29 Sep there will be links to Half.com from the
Sell Your Item index form under the Books, Movies, Music and
Computer games categories. Links to re-list ebaY items on Half.com. If a
Book, Movie, Music or Video game did not sell on eBay, there will be a
link to Half.com's selling form to list it there for free. ebaY will
offer a link to register on Half.com when a user registers on eBay, and
links from ebaYs scheduled maintenance page.

ebaY is planning to add additional product features such as combined
registration for the two sites and dual feedback display. They also
intend to expand the products offered by Half.Com into additional
retail-oriented categories. ebaY does not currently plan to co-mingle
ebaY’s auction and Half.Com’s fixed price listings on one site.
Half.Com is only available to buyers and sellers located in the United
States. This restraint is due in part to the shipping requirements and
fixed shipping charges Half.com has built into their system.

ebaY will launch live auctions on ebaY Great Collections. This
area of the Great Collections site will provide users the opportunity
to bid live on auctions, browse sale catalogs, place absentee bids,
and participate real time in live events. You can preview lots and
learn about the sale beforehand as lots will be listed on ebaY Great
Collections’ live auctions several weeks before the actual auction
date. They will also provide details on the terms and conditions of
sale for each event. To participate in any live auction sale, you’ll
need to sign up in advance. The auction house may request that
you place a credit card on file as identification or that you contact
them directly to provide additional information. Auction houses
guarantee the authorship and description for every lot on every sale.
The rules will be the same for online and analog bidders. Winning
bidders will need to pay a buyer’s premium, and arrange for shipping
themselves. Butterfields’ catalog “Treasures of the Hoi An
Hoard” is now online, featuring a unique collection of porcelain and
ceramics from a late 15th/early 16th century Vietnamese shipwreck.

Auction counters are projected to be available early next month.
They will be added to select categories in three stages over a three
week period. Third party software developers should check that
their program works when ebaY launches counter next month.

preview what counters will look like, go here:

In an email to Billpoint users, ebaY has lowered and re-structured
their Billpoint fees effective 28 Sep. ebaY is offering free electronic
check transactions, and two fee structures for merchant accounts and
standard accounts. Sales amount includes final price, shipping,
handling, insurance, sales tax, and any additional fees that seller
specifies. All sales incur a .5% fee for automatically transferring
funds into your FDIC-insured, interest-bearing account. This deposit fee
does not apply for sales of $15 or less.

Weird ebaY? There is something very strange going on at ebaY
with auction listing numbers that are 10 digit numbers. Do a search
by item number for items numbered 1000000002 or higher. These
all seem to be weird and bizarre items, but also proves that ebaY is
not using consecutive numbering for their auctions.
