ebaY on 25 Sep started off another day of intermittent site problems
at 07:37:20 PT. Users received Network error Unable to request URL
from host cgi5.ebay.com.au:80: Operation timed out messages from
the Australia site and then at 08:27:03 Network error Unable to read
URL from host cgi5.ebay.com on the ebaY main site. At 10:08:59PT
pages.eBay.com went down resulting in no search. At 12:53:42 PT
all images disappeared and reappeared at 13:02:44 PT. Users reported
intermittent problems with search all day.

On 26 Sep at 17:22:15 PT search stopped working. At 18:08:39 PT
reset by peer and Network error Unable to read URL from host
cgi3.ebay.netscape.com: no response from server started to show up
when trying to access the boards. These problems continued
intermittently until approx 21:00PT.

A Billpoint rep in response to a user clarified that Billpoint will not
be charging a deposit fee on transactions less than $15.00. Therefore,
the cost of an item less than $15.00 is $.35, not $.35 plus .5%.
Several Billpoint invoices that were sent out on 24 Sep were NOT sent.
If you sent out invoices using Billpoint on 24 Sep, TAG advises you to
check with your customers to see if they received
them. The invoices do show up on your accounts, but some were
not sent.

ebaY picture services are now available in all categories. You can
include 2 free photos per listing, add another 4 photos for 50 cents,
and present your photos in a slide show format for $1. You will
have to select between non-ebaY photo hosting or ebaY Picture
Services. For the first 2 weeks, this page will default to non-eBay
photo hosting. Depending on your browser, you may select between
ebaY's enhanced and basic photo hosting options. Your photo
hosting preference will be remembered through a cookie placed
on your computer. Beginning in mid-October, sellers who have
not chosen their photo hosting preference will see a page with 3
photo hosting options. The default will be ebaY Picture Services
although you can select not to use this eBay service. Your photo
hosting preference will be remembered through a cookie placed
on your computer. If you want to change your photo hosting
preference, you can do so on the sell index page.
For more information about eBay Picture Services and the
rollout plan, go to

ebaY is joining a program called the Digital Opportunity Program
for Seniors. This program is designed to help senior citizens
get access to technology and education. ebaY, along with the
ebaY Foundation and SeniorNet is pledging to train and bring
online over 1 million seniors as part of the program. The campaign
will also help to establish 10 new SeniorNet training centers over
the next five years. ebaY pledges to bring online and train over one
million seniors over a five year span. The ebaY Foundation will
commit up to $1 million to SeniorNet. ebaY will fund 10 new
senior computer training centers nationally over five years. ebaY
will develop an employee volunteer program for training seniors.
ebaY will incorporate classroom education and training into the
curriculum offering at SeniorNet locations nationwide, where
both basic and advanced online commerce classes will be offered.
ebaY will maintain a seniors page on the ebaY.com site,
www.ebay.com/seniors. An area of this page is dedicated to hosting
online charity items to raise money for senior programs. Sun
Microsystems is currently selling its newest workstation on ebaY
that is expected to raise over $100,000 for the program. If you have
suggestion or input email seni-@ebay.com

ebaY reported that the item counts displayed at the top of
Title Search results are inaccurate on searches on www.ebay.com.
ebaY claims this is due to item counts that include in the total
items that aren't listed in English or available for shipment to the
US. ebaY says that only the item counts on the last page of
Title Search are accurate.

ebaY in its continuing move away from person to person auctions
has the preview page of the site developed with GO.com, the
online business of the Walt Disney Company. On the new site
Disney Auctions will list exclusive and authenticated products,
props and memorabilia from The Walt Disney Company. This
including Walt Disney Studios, Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Disney Auctions will launch later this fall. Preview at
http://www.ebay.com/disneypreview

ebaY will start sending out new Item Watch reminder e-mails 26Sep.
The e-mails will be sent only for items on watch lists, and will be a
reminder of items that are about to end. The e-mail will contain all
items that end within 36 hours. You will only receive this e-mail if
you are watching items and are not currently receiving Daily Status
e-mails. If you are already receiving Daily Status e-mails, the Item
Watch reminder will automatically be included within that e-mail.
You can opt-out of these e-mails by changing your SPAM
preferences through My eBay or go to

Amazon Auctions TAG observed while doing auction counts that
there are many more medium to large scale companies placing auctions
on Amazon, as they move farther away from person to person
auctions. Business to person auctions appear to predominate.
