An article from Bloomberg reported on an ebaY presentation. ebaY
estimates it has 2 percent of the market for trading collectible items.
They expect Half.com to grow. Their potential market for ebaY
services will increase to $2 trillion in 2005 from $1.6 trillion today.
The market represents the total amount of goods and services that could
be bought and sold on its sites. ebaY plans to double the number of
international markets it has websites in by expanding into five more
countries by the end of next year. They expect to be in 25
countries at the end of 2005.

PayPal - TAG finally got to talk to the PayPal rep, and this is TAGs
take on what we discussed. The PayPal rep acknowledged
that PayPal made some mistakes in the initial way they reminded
users that they needed to upgrade their accounts. The way the three
upgrade boxes were presented was not well conceived. Our suggestion
that PayPal post a public apology was laughed at, but our points were
acknowledged as having merit. We have also seen posts on the OAI boards
that PayPal is letting users downgrade their account.

PayPal has not yet set criteria for what kind of seller is or is not a
business needing a premium or business account. We suggested
that they went about this process a bit backwards, that they should
have established criteria first, then users could measure themselves
against the criteria to see if they were required to upgrade. The
prime driver making the upgrade and resultant fees necessary is
charge card payments. The float scheme works up to a point, but
not when it comes to charge card fees. PayPal is considering
making it possible for users who want free accounts to accept only
PayPal to PayPal payments or bank to PayPal payments, and not
charge cards payments. They are not going to guarantee these types
of payments will always remain free, they made that mistake once
already, but they are working on doing this. They are also trying to
come up with some criteria based on number of transactions, amount
of transaction and type of transaction, to determine if someone needs
to upgrade or not. Phone 650-833-5460 http://www.paypal.com
