DUE TO CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH EGROUPS, WE ARE
MIRRORING TAGNOTES ON TOPICA. We have transferred the
subscription list, and will start sending one message a week through
Topica starting the week of 5 Sep. The first message will be a test
message, and we hope you will bear with us as we work out any
problems with this new list service. If you receive a message and
have a WEB only subscription, please let us know so that we can
fix it. If you are supposed to receive the email messages, and don't
get a Topica test message dated 5 Sep, please let us know also.
If you have any comments, questions, information, ideas or
suggestions please email us at tagn-@t...
HAPPY LABOR DAY AND MILLION AUCTION MARCH DAY
********************************************************************
eBay had a series of problems over the last 5 days, many of them
intermittentand ongoing. On 29Aug ebaY reported at 14:22:39PT
that it was down from 14:09 to 14:16 PT. Problems were reported
on the OAI boards until 14:17:41, and intermittent problems
surfaced at 17:49PT and continued to be noted through 18:00PT.
At 19:54PT intermittent problems started again, with users reporting
a range of problems with Mister Lister, pages not opening and reset
messages. These appeared to clear up by 20:31PT. On 30Aug ebaY
reported at 15:27:26 that the Feedback Forum was down from 14:13:18
until 15:15 PT. On 31Aug at 18:17 ebaY went down and they reported
the outage at 18:26:04 PT. ebaY reported themselves back up at
08:35PT but were not back up until 19:39 according to users postings
on the OAI boards. On 1 Sep at 09:59 intermittent problems started
again lasting until 10:22 on 1 Sep. On 2 Sep at 06:50:58 Search went
down. Problems continued to be reported until 07:29PT. ebaY
continued to have problems with relists during the day, and one user
suggested that relist worked better in Netscape rather than IE.

If you feel your auctions were negatively impacted by the
problems, request refunds from the form at

Yahoo Auctions is starting to put restrictions on the numbers of
auctions sellers may list. All sellers start out with the ability
to list up to a total of 1,000 auctions a month including relists.
If an item sells, the listing limit increases. Positive feedback left
also gets a higher limit increase. Yahoo is using this new system to
limit the numbers of non saleable merchandise on the site (such as
auctions that sell nothing and are just advertisements) but will
unfortunately also negatively impact legitimate sellers whose
inventory sells more slowly due to the lower number of buyers
on Yahoo. This will basically limit sellers to approximately
333 items a month on the low side, which might be many items
less than they have been currently listing. TAG's take on this is
that large volume sellers have a legitimate issue with Yahoo
over this, since they have revamped their selling methods to
suit the more limited market conditions at Yahoo. Yahoo should
revue on a case by case basis those large volume sellers who have
been using Yahoo right along, so they are not pushed into a one
size fits all box. This would be a much fairer scenario and allow
time for these sellers to adjust to these new rules without damaging
their ability to continue to sell on Yahoo.

PayPal/X.Com have been making changes to payment system.
The latest change is the ability to pay directly with a verified bank
account rather than a charge card. If you use the Pay with a Bank
Account option, you earn 1% cash back on payments to an
X.com Business or Premier user for amounts up to $500.
TAG continues to encourage users to set up a Paypal account
in conjunction with an X.Com FDIC Bank account, and use the
two together. Move your funds from the PayPal account into your
FDIC insured X.Com account, and keep all your online transactions
separate from your analog ones.
