eBay reported on 26 Jul 08:31PT that their end of auction notices
are currently running behind. The closing information is available
on the individual item page, or via My eBay
http://pages.ebay.com/services/myebay/myebay.html
On the 27th at 10:42PT they reported intermittent outages on
their discussion and help boards. Neither of these problems were
reported resolved prior to sending this issue.

eBay will be down for regularly scheduled maintenance on Fri
28 July from 01:00 PT to 05:00 PT.

eBay has changed their Business Exchange Pages. eBay has
organized items into the market categories Agriculture, Computing,
Construction, Industrial Equipment, General, Medical Equipment,
Office Equipment, and Restaurant Equipment. For more info go to
http://pages.ebay.com/business_exchange/index.html

In August eBay is making changes in the special features. They
are adding Featured in Search capabilities, and changing the name
to Featured Plus. Featured items will now be featured in category
listings and also in search results. The price is increasing to
$19.95. Features will be renamed Homepage Featured.
They are also adding a highlight feature so that your item listing
will show up highlighted in yellow. This will appear on the list
your item page during the third week of Aug and cost $5.00. They
are removing the unsuccessful gift icon option though may
reintroduce the gift icon option again when eBay feels it appropriate.
For more information go to http://pages.ebay.com/preview/seller.html

In addition, eBay is changing the Sell Your Item form. They are
going to include the Electronic Check Option for eBay Online
Payments by Billpoint, and add the feature changes.
To preview the new Sell Your Item form, go to
http://pages.ebay.com/preview/syi.html

eBay has started it's pilot vehicle inspection program. This program
is being tested by Saturn Corporation, Saturn retailers, eBay, and
Autotrader.com. Users will be able to view the results of recent
vehicle inspections online when you shop for vehicles on
http://www.ebay-autotrader.com
http://www.ebaymotors.com
To use this program the seller takes the vehicle to a participating
Saturn retailer for an inspection. When the vehicle is listed for
sale, the inspection results are linked to the item page.
In addition to doing the inspection, Saturn retailers may offer
an extended service plan to the buyer of the vehicle. Similar
to a warranty, these plans provide mechanical repair coverage
for the vehicle during the length of the plan. Availability
and pricing of service plans is based upon inspection results.
Use of the inspection program is optional for sellers. The pilot
program will be offered at participating retailers in Houston and
Indianapolis. eBay plans to expand the program nationwide later
this year. For more info about the inspection program go to
http://pages.ebay.com/ebaymotors/services/inspection/inspection.html

eBay continues to censor its site to make it more acceptable to what
it views as the needs of its diverse users. eBay bans certain listings
it believes are in the best interest of its users. eBay disallows
listings or items that promote or glorify hatred, violence, or racial
intolerance, or items that promote organizations (such as the KKK,
Nazis, neo-Nazis, Skinheads, Aryan Nation) with such views.
Under this policy, eBay may in its discretion, remove items and
refund listing fees when an item or description graphically portrays
violence or victims of violence, and lacks substantial social,
historical, artistic or political value. For example, eBay may
prohibit sales of explicit crime scene photographs or morgue photos,
while permitting military documentaries or photographs of war
victims. eBay will remove any listing and suspend the users involved
where it appears that a person convicted of a violent felony is
attempting to use eBay (directly or through another person) to benefit
financially from his or her criminal notoriety. eBay will review
listings that are brought to its attention by it's users, and will
look at the entire listing to see if it falls within this rule.

eBay has a post about its settlement with ReverseAuction, who
harvested email addys from eBay and spammed eBay users with
messages that appeared to say that users eBay Ids were in
jeopardy. eBay will be paid $1.2 million and ReverseAuction has an
injunction which prohibits it from using software robots to harvest
e-mail addresses or other information regarding eBay users and
sending them unsolicited e-mail messages. eBay says it is using a
portion of the proceeds to fund site initiatives to protect eBay
users privacy, and to cover attorneys fees and costs in consumer
complaints caused by ReverseAuction's actions. TAG thinks it is
interesting that eBay put this on the announcement board as they
have probably now provided ReverseAuction.Com more exposure
than all their spam email did. http://www.reverseauction.com
has only 54 items listed, not exactly a threat to eBays market share.

Approx 4.67 million current listing
