eBay at 18:00 PT on 23 Jul reported that they were having problems
with slowness and intermittent title search. When trying to access
you could get error messages. This was reported fixed at 21:33. At
06:55 on 24 Jul eBay reported problems that started at approx 06:20PT
with the eBay system, including View Item and the Feedback Forum.
This was reported fixed at 07:23, but the problems again reappeared
and were reported by eBay again at 08:45. View Item functions were
working slowly and intermittently again at 09:04PT, but ability to
read feedback was not restored until 11:50PT and reported by eBay at
15:17PT. If you feel your auctions were negatively impacted by these
problems email bill-@e... to request a refund.

* Move the "Sheet Music" category from Musical Instruments to

* Delete the category Mechanical instruments including
subcategories General and Piano Rolls, and combine items
from those categories into other categories within Musical
Instruments.
* Move the Professional, Studio category from Photo &
Electronics: Consumer Electronics: Audio to Musical
Instruments and rename it to Pro Audio.

eBay expects changes to be implemented in September 2000.
eBay feels their pilot dispute resolution program with SquareTrade
was successful. They are continuing the program and SquareTrade
will offer two services to resolve disputes between users.
* A free web-based forum to allow users to attempt to resolve
their differences on their own. To use this service, either the buyer
or seller files a complaint with SquareTrade. SquareTrade then
emails the other party, and encourages that party to respond
through the web-based system.
* A professional mediator subsidized by eBay. If both parties agree
to use the mediator, the cost is $15. For more info about Square
Trade and on-line dispute resolution, go to
http://pages.ebay.com/services/buyandsell/disputeres.html
In an attempt to get sellers to use Billpoint, eBay is offering
buyers $1 off each purchase of $2.00 or more made on eBay. Buyers
get the $1 off automatically when they use their Visa card and eBay
Online Payments by Billpoint. If a seller does not offer Billpoint,
buyers are encouraged by eBay to ask the seller to change their
auction terms and take Billpoint as payment. Billpoint is currently
offered on 325,668 (7%) of eBay auctions as compared to PayPal
offered on 1,442,105 (32%) of eBay auctions. For more information
go to http://www.billpoint.com/promotion/dollaroff.html

RothmanCloseouts is an interesting Business to Business site.
Rather than the regular online auction format, they broker
closeout deals between seller and buyer. Seller pays a 10% fee
at the close of each Sale. Payment for goods is sent to
Rothmancloseouts and held in an escrow account. On notification
by Seller merchandise has been shipped, Rothman will send payment
to Seller less 10% of the gross sales price to cover agreed Service
Fee. They do not charge extra for the escrow services provided.
