eBay On Saturday, 24 June had 350 people attend their free, half
day classes, the eBay University pilot program. Classes included
*eBay 101 An Introductory Guide to Buying and Selling on eBay;
*eBay 102 Boost Biddings by Improving Your Listings;
*eBay 103 How to Grow your Business as an eBay Seller.

It has come to TAGs attention that eBay received the idea and
possibly even the syllabus used from an eBay member, without
giving proper credit or remuneration.

eBay has added 7 Antique Prints category options. The changes
that will be made in August to the Antiques and Art Category can

eBay is changing Gemstones, Watches, Supplies and Men's Jewelry
in early Aug 2000. They are continuing to study the Jewelry
section and will post new Proposed Jewelry Changes in mid-July
and plan to roll out changes to the balance of Jewelry in Sep 2000.

eBay Motors is making changes to the Sell Your Item form for
Passenger Vehicles at the end of July. Forms for Motorcycles,
Other Vehicles, Parts & Accessories will not be changed.
These changes are being made to kick off our new inspection
service for eBay Motors. With this service, a seller can have
a used car inspected at a local Saturn retailer, and then have
the option of having the detailed results of the inspection
appear online with the item in eBay Motors listings. Initially,
the inspection service is available at a few test locations.
eBay plans to expand the program nationwide later this year.

EBAY VS TAG WATCH FEATURE SURVEY
eBay conducted a survey of 5,000 active sellers and 5,000 active
buyers, and received 1,780 responses (a 17.8 percent rate of
response). Responses were counted by User ID so they claim there
was no double counting of respondents. Since most eBay users have
multiple IDs, TAG can't understand how they can prove the accuracy
of this claim.

TAG posted the information about the availability of their survey on
most of the main OAI boards, both on eBay and outside of eBay.
We also posted about it in TAGnotes. We had 190 respondents,
8 of these posted anonymously without name or email addy, all
the rest used names and email addys that were unique. Though
unlikely, it is possible we had duplicates, as all someone had to
do was use another name with another email addy.


eBay did not say how many of the respondents were buyers or sellers.
TAG's result was that 187 of 190 had bid on items on eBay and
186 had bought an item, 182 of 190 had sold an item

eBay - 76% of buyers said they either liked or really liked the
feature
TAG - 89/186 - 48% of buyers said they either liked or really liked
the feature 68/186 were buyers of between 1 and 99 items 17/186
were buyers of over 100 items

eBay - 59% of sellers said they either liked or really liked the
feature.
TAG - 17/182 - 9% of sellers said they either liked or really liked
the feature

eBay - Among sellers, there was a significant minority, under 20%,
who did not like the feature
TAG - Among sellers 128/182 - 70% did not like or hated the feature
18/182 were sellers of between 1 and 99 items 85/182 were sellers
of over 100 items 73/186 buyers - 39% did not like or hated the
feature

TAG - 156/186 buyers either like or really like eBay as a buyer
      144/182 sellers either like or really like eBay as a seller
