eBay reported a complete outage at 21:31:46 PT on 24 Jun that they
say occurred at 20:09 PT. Their secondary server took over and
service was reported as back up at 20:43 PT. On 23 June 09:00 PT
eBay reported problems with the UK site, and then at 14:50 PT
on the 24th reported the problems were fixed as of 11:20:00 PT,
on 23 Jun. There are also problems with the Australian site
with the search feature, reported at 20:05PT on 25 Jun. This is
due to a domain name service change that should finish propagating
across the net within the next 24 hours. On 26 Jun the Billpoint
registration, create invoice, and accept invoice functions were
unavailable from approximately 06:34 PT to 07:20 PT. This was
reported fixed by eBay at 07:40 PT. If you feel your auctions
were negatively impacted by any of these problems we highly
recommend you contact bill-@e... and request a refund.
As evidence of the new direction eBay is headed in, their Home
Page no longer contains a single reference to AUCTIONS. The
only place the word auction appears is on the Heritage
Numismatic Auction logo.
eBay introduced Instant Purchase today 26 Jun. Instant Purchase
is a listing option that allows US buyers to pay US sellers
immediately after an item ends. Sellers select the Instant
Purchase option on the eBay Sell Your Item form and enter
shipping, handling, insurance and sales tax information.
When the item ends, a Pay Now button will appear in the
top section of the View Item page. Buyers need to click
on this button and enter their payment information to pay for
the item. Billpoint will automatically calculate the final cost
and let you know when the buyer has paid. In cases where Instant
Purchase is not usable by the seller, sellers can still use Billpoint
by creating a Billpoint invoice specifying final charges to the
buyer after the item ends. For more information go to
http://pages.ebay.com/help/sellerguide/bp-sellers.html
Buyers can pay using either by credit card or electronic check.
