eBay is increasing sponsorships, advertising and strategic
partnerships which they feel will bring more buyers and sellers
to eBay, to build what eBays calls a more vibrant marketplace
and to help finance continued investments for building eBay.
Over the next several weeks there will be more ads on eBay,
including Search Results pages. eBay claims that many of these
new advertisers will complement the services that are currently
available to the community. These will include ISPs, shipping
services and products, and even in-house ads highlighting
buying and selling tips.

If this link is an indication of the kind of ad eBay is going
to run, TAG wonders who it is that will benefit besides eBay.
In this example the link takes you to Krause's Magazine on
collectibles and has links to Krause classifieds on these type
of items, AND a link to a non-eBay auction house. Since sellers
are prohibited from having these types of links, it begs the
question as to why eBay is allowing them. At least they are
not on the sellers pages …YET.

There is a rumor circulating that a decision in eBays suit against
BiddersEdge is imminent. TAG was contacted today by a reporter
on the meta search issue, so maybe there is some validity to the
rumor. We will report the info as soon as it becomes available.

Don't forget to participate in the eBay WATCH feature survey.

Andale.Com is running a listing fee refund day tomorrow, 16 May.
12:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. PT. They will refund up to 50 cents an
auction on eBay, and ten cents on Amazon, with a total cap of $600.
All auctions that end in a sale, are subject to eBay's normal Final
Value Fees (FVF), and Andale's FVF also. If you are still in your
2-week free trial period at Andale, you won't pay either marketplace
or Andale fees. This promotion is open to everyone, and new
referrals will be paid according to the rules. Check the site for
all the rules restrictions and fees.   http://www.andale.com

AuctionRover.Com has experienced some unexpected growing
pains since their purchase by GoTo.Com. They are working very
hard to combat site slowness, and function problems. In a recent
email from the CEO in response to problem reports we received
from TAG subscribers, here are some of the key points addressed.
1. The short answer to the performance problems is that they have
been swamped with new users since the goto acquisition. Everything
doubled overnight and they're working hard to catch up to that surge.
2. They are planning on making the changes to make the site faster
and more convenient to use (such as methods to create new auctions
from the last finished auction), but are freezing new features
for a little while and focusing on performance issues. TAG
applauds their emphasis on site performance first, before they
add new features.
3. There is something about the netscape browsers that dramatically
slows down their system. If you have IE5 available, it might help to
use it during the short term, until AR can fix the performance
problems.
4. They have ordered LARGE amounts of equipment, and once they
get it delivered and installed a dramatic improvement will hopefully
occur.
TAG appreciates ARs quick response to our queries and their upfront
answers. If you have experiences with AR or any other management
tool you would like to share with TAG, please email us. We will add
your comments to our OAI online tool report.

There is an article on ZDnet about Fraud on eBay. The facts sound
distorted and sensationalized to TAG. You can add your own
comments on the ZDnet site.
