eBay is launching the new home page tomorrow, Tues 9 May.
The Specialty Sites area will provide an area to promote areas such
as Great Collections, eBay Motors and the Business Exchange.
It will also promote new areas of the eBay marketplace, including
regional trading and also themed interests, such as eBay Chinatown
and Fashion. The Gallery will be integrated into Listings areas
of the site in coming week. eBay appears to be removing the Stats
area of the Home Page, and number of auctions currently listed will
no longer be available.
eBay Virtual Mall in their agreement with TIAS.Com is offering
through TIAS their Virtual Show program. It is run jointly with
antique show promoters around the country. Dealers who sign up
with an eBay virtual show get their merchandise showcased in this
program. TIAS Dealers get free online booth rent and two free
featured items until 1 October. Thereafter, online booth rent is
$15 (50% of face value) and featured items are $3.95 (full value).
The benefits of the program are:
1. Promotion on eBay's site in the antiques category
2. Banner promotion throughout the site
3. Promotion on AOL in the antiques and collectibles areas
(post launch of hub page)
4. Promotion on other web sites (post launch of hub page)
5. Periodic promotion in eBay's newsletter, magazine, and other
direct marketing channels
6. An online storefront that is branded under an antique show
promoter
The info about TIAS comes to us thanks to a TAGnotes subscriber.
TIAS.Com has extensive rules and fees for joining them, and these
can be found here http://www.tias.com/makeashop/fees.html
You don't need to join TIAS to participate in eBays AntiqueMall
listings. For more info go to http://www.ebay.com/antiquemalls/
We just received this clarification from ebay on the AntiqueMall
requirements. They require you to LIST at least 50 items a week, NOT
sell 50 items per week. They also know that there may be outside
sources that may prevent you from having 50 items listed on eBay at
all times (ie: illness, vacation, holidays, etc). If you drop below
the required amount once you register, they will work on a case by
case basis to help your business succeed in eBay's Virtual Antique
Mall.

Amazon Auctions appears to have instituted the Bid On Feature
Placement in order to have their items get top billing every time.
They don't need to bid anything on placement, but appear to
automatically get top billing in each category. In addition the
secondary search, now that the primary search is featured category,
remains hot items and returns completely arbitrary and confusing
results.

Andale.Com It appears that payments for the Andale $5. promotion
have started to show up. Some on the west coast received them on
the 5th of May, Central states today on the 8th. Hopefully the east
coast will see them by mid week. It appears they are arriving via
certified mail, so you might need to go to your post office to pick
it up. http://www.andale.com
