eBay, at 1520 PT 8 Feb, lost some page functions, including search which
was patched by access through http://listings.ebay.com/aw/listings/list
. Reports on the auction industry chat boards reported that the outage
was much more catastrophic than what eBay was saying.   By 1630 this
turned into a full blown external “denial of service” attack. Though
eBay claimed that this was not a compromise of data, it did impact site
accessibility.   They felt " a good majority" of their users, still had
access. By 1900,   most functions were restored, though there were
continuing problems with   eBays pic servers, causing pages to not
download.   By 2020 PT the pic   servers were back online, though more
reports of intermittent outages   continue to be discussed on the chat
boards, the latest outage reported at 2145 PT.

If your auction ended between 1600 and 2200 tonight and you feel it was
affected by the outages, TAG strongly recommends you request   credit
by   writing to bill-@e... with the item number(s) of your affected
auction(s) and the reason for your credit request. An article on the
eBay attack can be found at

eBay has a four year agreement with Go.Com (formerly Infoseek)
a network of the Walt Disney Company’s web sites (including ABC.com,
ESPN.com, and Disney.com) to produce a co-branded product.   eBay and
GO.com will work together to develop a site that will be promoted by the
GO.com network, an internet portal and plan to co-market the sites
with   Disney through Disney’s traditional offline properties, including
the ABC Television Network, ABC Radio Network, ESPN Cable Networks,
Disney Channel, The Disney Catalog, theme parks, the annual Disneyana
Convention and in other special events and promotions. eBay claims that
this combination of online and offline promotions will bring new buyers.
eBay plans to collaborate with GO.com on development of auction format
trading for Disney’s web sites, including Disney.com, ESPN.com and
ABC.com. They expect to showcase exclusive products and memorabilia from
the Walt Disney Company (including Walt Disney Studios,   Disneyland and
Walt Disney World, ESPN Cable Networks and ABC   Television), and hope
to attract those customers to eBay.   The goal is   for eBay to become
the ultimate trading destination for Disneyana.

Personal shopper emails resumed at around 2000 PT last night 7 Feb after
being down for 14 hours.
