eBay had its regularly scheduled outage for maintenance on Friday
28 Jan, but unfortunately their primary system failed at 0011, so all
auctions scheduled to end between 00:11 PT and 01:00 PT on Fri, 28 Jan
were extended for 24 hours.
There is also a long post about indexing.
1. Several indexing cycles are run to capture new information, such
as new listings, bids, etc. every day.
2. eBay is working to make improvements to the indexing cycles to
reduce cycle completion time, and to allow newly listed items to
show up in Search results.
3. Title Search cycles are currently completing in under 4 hours. They
are still working on prime time responsiveness and the description
search indexing cycles.
4. During the last few days, description search updates have been slow
running anywhere from 6 to 20 hours. Earlier this week, the indexing
cycles were running at the 20-hour mark. They think they have addressed
it, but will continue to monitor the performance of the system.
5. During regularly scheduled maintenance times on Friday mornings,
indexing cycles for search are delayed, and have to catch up later in
the day after the maintenance is complete. They’re working
to reduce
the time it takes to complete a description search indexing cycle.
The rest of the comments by eBay in this post to their announcement
board, appear to TAG, to try to justify why eBay can't fix their search
problems. We include the long missing 30 day completed items search,
which has been MIA for a year or more.
